Aw if Smith said it, it must be true. Raith Rovers haven’t brought in anyone who would or should have been out of our reach budget wise.

It's Morton getting Strapp and immediately improving on us defensively plus getting goals from his throw ins despite him being out the game for god knows how long that annoys me.

I do wonder if a lot of our budget is tied up in rent for the guys that come up - is that included?

For example - someone comes up from down south on loan and stays in a flat provided by the club (rented off a third party) - he then buys his own place in Glasgow as he gets a longer term deal.   Is the rent saved on him not needing a place a saving of about £500 a month from the playing budget?

That's Arbroath just equalised against Raith ffs

We're going to be 9th by end of tonight aren't we

Ach as long as its us and Arbroath that go down and Falkirk come up then at least we should have a budget to have a promotion battle next season

Edit - Raith love a late comeback and winner anyway so I'm not even remotely worried about tonight's game yet

I wonder what people's short, medium and long term ambitions for the club are.

Was last season's 2nd place a Dipo inspired one off? Did it create false hope, especially with him leaving?

With our current crowds and infrastructure how high should we be realistically aiming. Have we indeed reached our ceiling?

Genuinely interested in what people think as these go a long way to fuel daily outpouring of emotion and frustrations on here.

We've avoided relegation on the last day of the season twice in 2/3 seasons and it looks as though this one is going along a similar trajectory.   So it does seem like the 2nd place finish was a fluke.

In the short to even medium term I'd like for that to be flipped around and that we are thinking "aim for playoffs, relegation battle is bad" rather than "expect relegation playoffs, playoffs are good"

After two weeks off from league football, everyone should be desperate to get to Somerset on Saturday.

Ayr don't do home wins very often and Arbroath have just parted with their manager.

    1-1

This will be 5 weeks since I went to the Morton game and incredibly I've still got absolutely zero motivation to go, that honestly still feels very very recent.  Will end up there of course but it's a tough 22 quid plus pints to presumably be pretty shite.

Probably agree with 1-1 seeing as half the Arbroath defence Will be up doing the night feeds by the sound of it.  Ayr to have more possession and shots

If Shankland isn't in the 23 man squad for Germany, then there's definitely something far wrong.

Without a doubt, the best finishing striker in the Scotland squad.

As Scotland fans, we've had some dire strikers over recent years. Iwelumo, Goodwillie, Mcburnie, Dickov, Kyle, O'Connor, etc

Without being a biased Ayr fan with great memories of him, I'd say Shankland is comfortably better than the majority of strikers Scotland have had over the last twenty years or so. Though many aren't keen on him due to the levels he's played at club level, He should at least be given a chance.

My fear is he ends up at Sevco! My heart couldn't take that 😬

He's the example I use anytime I'm talking to Rangers fans (which as the dad of an 8 year old paying locally depressingly everyone i talk to seems to be) but they should have signed him instead of donking so much money on the strikers they have.

Was delighted that my 8 year old that's now a massive Ayr and Scotland fan got to jump about Smiths tonight to celebrate a goal scored by someone he never saw play but has a photo with and knows is an Ayr legend.   That's good for me 💪

    He is ridiculously slow.

He was okay ish today, and did four or five decent things. I mean he still shouldn’t have been starting but he wasn’t unbelievably shit so that’s progress I guess.

IMO, he should be third in line for that supporting striker style role behind Dowds.

He's a disgrace of a striker.  Swap him for Robbie fucking Muirhead and we would be comfortably pushing for the top 4

Can't figure out why we didn't sub on Amartey, especially since Broadfoot is known for having practically 0 pace.

Because the manager is a fucking idiot.  Spent the whole pre match and post match press conference greeting about how Morton are big and strong and score from set pieces yet doesn't attempt to play the game a different way.    There's a story there - we eventually got the one about Pendlebury but can't be the same with Amarety as he's still here.

He dropped him like a hot brick and didn’t play him again until he literally had no other options nearly 4 months later. Ahui did well though.

To be fair it sounds like he had an absolute horror show at Morton and he's then been taken out the firing line.  I think Bullen does well in that press conference, even has to jump in early on-  but can't help but thinking it's literally the one time I'd rather have had Callum asking the "well lee / elicha"  very easy loaded questions.   Surely the first time you send the students in asking questions you stick McGinty in there who is totally at ease with whatever gets asked.  That was more awkward than it had to be .

And Young, it would only leave Smith off the bench once Dempsey comes back.

Today was a good performance. The chat on the match thread was pretty derisory towards McKenzie but once he went off it was clear what he offers and Rose doesn’t. Bryden and Dowds also, we need positive options off the bench as well as keeping Senga/young and both Chalmers and Dowds

I thought Young had signed on loan for the full season but probably wrong - there was a lot of movement in small space of time.

Pretty much agree with everything here- Syla is good, Senga is a must keep, and despite his constant misses McKenzie is better than Rose IMO
