  3. Useful page ahead of Falkirk match. Well it would be useful if it displayed properly on a phone! e.t.a. inexplicably the page did display correctly when I clicked on the link, which it had not done previously. https://montrosefc.co.uk/2024/03/27/next-up-26/ Main information for Falkirk supporters: AWAY supporters should enter the stadium from the turnstiles located at the East end of Links Park Stadium adjacent to Union Street/Union Row. 4. Mid Links usually very chocka on match days. Is Whinfield Road not a better option for away fans? There's also car parking near the skatepark on Traill Drive for people who like a walk and some fresh sea air! https://maps.app.goo.gl/THyUJJbfDJ4xbRWs6
  5. No, but on reflection, it does sound like a reference to the Bash Street Kids. D.C. Thomson publications have had a strong cultural influence for many and probably it’s fair to say much further afield than Dundee and Angus. I think that the fact we have nicknames for our players reflects the fact that we have had a settled squad for a number of years and that an affinity has built up between players and supporters to the extent that for me, referring to their “proper” names would have seemed too formal. Given I was replying to a Montrose fan, I don’t think that was unreasonable but for the sake of clarity, I was referring to: Sean Dillon, Paul Watson, Michael Gardyne and Andrew Steeves.
  6. I was surprised that the information isn't on the website. It definitely used to be but I couldn't find it either. If it isn't on their X (Twitter) or Facebook you could try emailing or calling the club... Get in touch with the MFC team: Tel: 01674 673200 Email: office@montrosefc.co.uk
  7. Let's hope today's result spurs a positive reaction next Saturday.
  8. Scunner! Crumb of comfort is that other results went our way but really disappointing nonetheless. Were we as toothless as the BBC stats suggest? (Not that they are in any way a reliable indicator.)
  9. Is this a thing that could impact the Community Trust etc. ? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crg69wrp9y8o
  10. Apologies, I only mentioned Falkirk as they are the big fish at the moment. I have no idea how often your loan players feature. I simply made the point that if you already have a comparatively big squad, augmenting it with loan players is clearly not as necessary as it is for a team like ourselves, who with smaller squads can in the course of the season find ourselves really stretched through players picking up injuries. The reality is that our over reliance on loan players, who did not return to us after New Year left our squad very depleted last season and I think was a major factor in our poor finish in comparison with previous years. If the loan player system is to work for us, we need the benefit to the sending club to be fairly balanced with the benefit to ourselves.
  11. Is this something new? In the past we seemed to be able to secure some good loan players under SP. I can understand why bigger clubs are not doing this for us out of the kindness of their own hearts and would be looking for as big a contribution from the loan club as possible. I do wonder however about the point of loaning out a player to say the likes of Falkirk, who already have a sizable squad. If the idea is to give the loan player game time, would they not be better off at a club where that is more likely to happen? What is the point of loaning out a player, just for him to sit on a bench? Then again, perhaps SP is not willing to guarantee loan players game time if they aren't demonstrably going to be a benefit to the team. If it is just a case of the bigger clubs getting as much money as they can for their on loan players, then allowing loan players seems to be something far more likely to hurt part-time teams than help them because it just compounds the "rich get richer" aspect of the game. It would be great if we had a ruling body that didn't seem content to allow a "greed is good" mentality to dominate the game. If it actually looked at what is good for growing the game in Scotland, rather than being the lap dog of the usual vested interests.
  12. Good result from Kelty tonight from a Mo. point of view.
  13. Really concerned about recent injuries. It feels like in this vital final quarter of the season, we’re reaching into the tool kit and missing what we’re needing to get the job done. Teams with bigger squads are clearly at an advantage. Hoping SP and Ross can find a way to win with whoever is available. No dead cert. easy games. Even with Edinburgh City relegated, they still have pride to play for. I am really pleased we salvaged a point on Saturday but if we target third, which I reckon is realistically as high as we can aim for, then we must stop dropping points to lower placed teams. I reckon Alloa are our main rivals for now but there’s still a long way to go. I believe we are capable of beating any team in this league but we will need to be more clinical and ruthless in how we go about winning.
  14. Would have been disappointed with a point beforehand but on 90 minutes I was delirious that Ali Shrive somehow preserved our unbeatenish* run. (* with Falkirk midweek game being the exception.) I thought it wouldn't be easy and it doesn't appear to have been.
  15. Having claimed maximum points from two "six pointers" and yet strangely only gaining six points: the Mo once again engage with an improving Annan side. We have been held to a draw in our two previous encounters. It would be terrific if we could gain all three points this time round. No doubt Annan will have other ideas but I hope we are hungrier for it on the day and keep up that MOmentum to secure a third place spot if possible.
  16. Eh, Annan are stuffy, I think "winnable" on its own would be sufficient. Our first match against them was won at a canter but since then they have improved, as have the Mo. I hope this will go well for the Mo as we seem to be flying right now and I would love that to continue for the rest of the season and beyond!
  17. Not looking forward to this! Remember the game Killie became champions at Links Park back in nineteen oatcake.
  18. Looking forward to this one. Should be a cracker as the Mo attempt to wrestle a win over Cove which has so far eluded them in the league. C.O.Y.M.
  19. Maybe I just got the wrong end of the stick from the reliable source who told me about the incident. I had assumed it was a foul by Cawley but having watched it at 0.25 speed, I see that Cawley isn't happy about something and must have said as much to the referee. The fact is your player got sent off due to his own indiscipline. That was the main point I was making. Unfortunately I couldn't attend today because I had other commitments, which had to take priority. You don't actually need to be there to comment on matches. Just like being there and watching does not necessarily make your comments any more accurate because of your own tendency towards confirmation bias.
  20. Heard he had passed out (fainted) and thankfully the paramedics thought he was well enough for him not to need any further attention from them. So hopefully he is okay now. E.t.a. re. Alloa's media: they actually somehow crafted a highlights package following their 5-0 defeat to Falkirk, that made the Wasps look really proper silky, which I think must have required some kind of David Blaine inspired trickery that messes with your mind.
  21. I wasn't there. The point is that I have heard it was a needless sending off, in that the foul on its own was probably insufficient to merit a red card.
  22. Great the "absolute masterplan" from Petrie worked yet again to deny the "better team" a point. The sending off was because the player concerned who received a booking for a foul, immediately afterwards used expletive language towards the referee. That was what earned him a sending off.
  23. Couldn't make it along so nervously following BBC and club Twitter (X if you musk) updates. So pleased that we ultimately made good on the man advantage and got all three points in what was a "six pointer" in terms of playoff progress. Let's keep the MOmentum up for our visit to the Balmoral Stadium next Saturday. C.O.Y.Mo!
