Yes, you can transfer your ticket to someone else. So for example you could have yours and your dad's ticket on your app when logged in. I guess you'd scan it and send him through the turnstile, then scan your own and go through. It would require your dad to have an account for the app though, so again in this example you'd need to log in on your phone with his account details, transfer the ticket to yourself, then log back in on your own account where you'd then have both tickets. Initially SSC members were not going to be allowed to transfer tickets to protect against points harvesting, but they listened to concerns such as this example, and let members transfer one ticket. Non-members can transfer tickets freely I think. As far as using the app for entry it all went fine for me, no queue and scanning and entry worked smoothly.

Blends could be a good entry point. Douglas Laing and Compass Box both do a range of blends. Compass Box tell you what is in each one on their website, so if you find one you like you can try a bottle from one of the distilleries that make it up. Douglas Laing do their blends by region which might give you a pointer too. For single malt as a starting point, in addition to what has been suggested already, Aberlour 12, Ardbeg Wee Beastie, Bruichladdich Classic Laddie can be found around £40 in big supermarkets. I'd also recommend Glencadam 10, which is generally £40 and a great value dram. Need to visit a dedicated whisky shop or website though.

I've been to the last few whisky fringe events. I think my first one was 2016. I really enjoy them, a good chance to try a whole range of whiskies and it's definitely guided what I buy (and what I don't buy). It's also a big social occasion now for my whisky pals and it's a day out we all try and get together for. Most tables give you a bit of chat, which I appreciate, and the chance to sample some whiskies that I either can't afford or I'm not sure whether are worth a punt. Longrow, James Eadie and Ardbeg Dark Cove are all whiskies that I've tried for the first time and gone on to buy. On the other hand, there have been bottlings from Dalmore and Arran that I thought I would like and decided against buying after sampling. The ticket price includes £10 off a bottle, either that you buy on the day or valid for the next month at Royal Mile Whiskies. However, I'm pretty sure the price the first year I went was £30, and it's now 50% more expensive for my fifth visit. Got tickets for the Friday this year.

Hendry's goal was very similar to Souttar's against Denmark but there must be a lot more going on in the penalty area that allows one of our main set piece threats alone at the back post to set up the goal. Two player board games are a bit tricky, while most of them work as two players they work best with three or four (like King of Tokyo). Ticket to Ride is a good shout. Carcassone is extremely popular and works well with two, once you get the hang of it it's very simple to lift out the box and get started straight away. Isle of Skye is similar but a bit more complicated. Pandemic is a bit different cos you work together to try and win, probably a bit better with more people. Recent Christmas additions included Dragonwood, which took a bit of explaining the first time but is much more straightforward once you've played it a couple of time. Games that don't require a board like Yatzee or OK Play are good too, especially for getting started straight away. I have a bunch more I've been acquiring pretty much since March 2020 if this turns into a general discussion and recommendations thread.

Yes, I'm a member. I'd say it depends on how much whisky they buy and where they are based. The two main benefits are entry to the members rooms and being allowed to buy SMWS bottles. I got my membership for Christmas 2019, so have not actually been able to visit any of the members rooms due to lockdown. Previously I went fairly regularly on other people's memberships and the Leith vaults is near my workplace so in normal times I'd have been popping in enough to justify the membership. There's also the chance to pick up some interesting bottles, although in the last year it's been a bit of a shambles with the online shop and stuff generally sells out in 60 seconds. If they are likely to buy a few bottles a year and/or would regularly visit the members rooms in Edinburgh or Glasgow then I'd say it's worth it.

I've read a couple of previews of tonight's match indicating Gilmour would get some game time but that Mctominay won't be there in time for it. Potentially this elevates Gilmour or Turnbull to starting or they rush Mctominay in. I think the real downside is both RBs being out, shame Patterson won't get a run out. Apart from that I think we can still field a team that isn't far away from a starting XI and lets us look at a couple of the alternative options for CB and CM. Chance for Cooper or McKenna to claim the remaining CB position and for Turnbull and Gilmour to stake a claim.

My first thought was it would be working out how to offer more protection to the centre backs when we're defending and taking the ball from them to start moves when we have possession, which is the role Jack was filling by himself before. Possibly two deeper midfielders.

Glendronach 18 or 21 Bunnahabhain 18 Glenfarclas 21 or 25 I'd say they are all impressive enough for the cabinet and nothing extreme to the taste.

I've not done subscriptions but I've searched out a fair few taster packs in the last year of lockdown. Bought a few bottles on the back of them, but also probably saved myself a few quid by realising I didn't actually fancy a full bottle of some of them. I enjoy it, we do a zoom call with a few of us sampling the same pack and discuss the individual drams.

As GiGi said, the real question is what are you wanting it for? Opening immediately and sharing with people? Saving for when your close pals want a special dram? Sticking on the shelf and never opening? And what's the budget?

Arsenal picked Tierney at LCB as a first choice, ahead of other fit available centre backs. Liverpool have had every CB and midfielder filling in at CB injured this year and they're picking academy players there ahead of Robertson.

Sadly the price hikes in whisky in the last couple of years mean that £30 is probably the minimum you'll pay for a single malt these days, with a couple of exceptions. Ardmore legacy is one of those bottles constantly on offer in Tesco etc so keep an eye out for that when it's available around £20. Laphroaig Select or Quarter Cask can also be found for around £25-30 when on offer in supermarkets. One I'd recommend that's just over your budget at the moment is Kilkerran 12, normally around £35-40, but based on your preferences above it seems like a good fit. Glen Scotia Double cask is also in that price range. There's also Glen Scotia Campbeltown Harbour which has been on the go for £25 when it was first released, might be on offer somewhere. There's plenty of Islay ones I could suggest but you wouldn't normally see them under £40. However, it's also coming up for Black Friday and Christmas shopping time which generally sees a lot of offers so definitely worth looking out for some deals in the next couple of weeks.

As far as I understand it, if SMWS know that you're flipping then it's a lifetime ban. However, obviously you can get another account with a different email address etc and people can have multiple accounts. SMWS has really blown up in the last couple of years. Around the start of the 2010s you could get any bottle you wanted without a rush but now they're all gone two minutes after going on sale. If you live in Edinburgh, or now Glasgow, then there's the advantage of going to the members rooms so it's not just about being able to buy bottles. The vaults in Leith is a great wee bar, although I have been paying £5 a month this year for the privilege of getting in and haven't been once. Normally I'd pop in a few times though. SMWS tastings have been a decent zoom whisky chat during lockdown although the quality of the drams is a bit hit or miss that can all add to the experience. Plenty of other indie bottlers out there though. On another note, me and my pals have started a couple of social media whisky accounts, basically taking all our whisky chat from whatsapp and sticking it online. Cadenheads do some 200 ml bottles for around £20-£30. They change all the time but a decent opportunity to try something different. Need to visit the shop though, either Royal Mile or Campbeltown. Alternatively, find 6 like minded souls and split the cost of a bottle between you and decant into 100ml bottles

Duly purchased. I have heard good things about it but thought I'd missed my chance to buy it as it's a special edition and was always out of stock when I looked. 30% Clynelish apparently, sounds like my kind of blend.

Picked up the Glasgow Blend last week, it starts off similar but they added Laphroaig to give it some smoke. The transparency of what is in each blend is great, encourages me to buy something rather than puts me off.
