  1. Bought my ticket last night and the bus is booked - hewigo the magic of the cup, or something along those lines anyway.
  2. I also agree with this. It's a big game with a lot at stake and for both teams it's a break from the league. Should be a good crowd in the place.
  3. Chris Maguire signs for Ayr after we supposedly turned him down. Only time will tell if this was a good decision or not.
  4. It's a rubbish date and time as others have suggested, and why it can't be on a Saturday evening or a Sunday afternoon with the TV schedule I'm not sure. Hoping to take a half day and make it up to the game as I've been to the stadium before, but never for a game. As Squirrelhumper says, even with a rotten slot for the TV I think we'll bring a good away support since a place at Hampden is up for grabs.
  5. Excited for this, but absolutely no idea what day or time this will be on at since all 4 games will be on the telly, so no Saturday 3PM KOs. Who knows? As long as it's not a Friday night or Monday night it could be a fun weekend.
  6. Forgot to point this out in my post yesterday - the most underrated moment of the whole game which I only picked up on watching the highlights was when Vassell and Armstrong were celebrating the goal, the wee ball girl in front of the George Fox was screwing her face up and making a big thumbs down gesture at them to voice her displeasure. Please give us more of this wonderful pettiness because Scottish football is worse off without it.
  7. I'd take anyone apart from Rangers or Celtic at home. Much as a trip to Tynecastle is always a smashing day out, I'd prefer not to have Hearts away, and if we got Ayr I'd prefer to play the game at Rugby Park. Would also like the OF to draw each other for obvious reasons.
  8. Thoroughly enjoyed the day out, and delighted to be in the hat for tomorrow. Cheers to the guys for the recommendations for pubs - unfortunately, our bus left late but we managed to get in a couple of minutes after kick-off so missed very little. The first half was poor and we were marginally better, and I'd say the same of the second half. Delighted for big Vassell to get his first goal, although we looked like we were shutting up shop as soon as we scored in true McInnes style. I'm not quite sure what's happening at United these days, but to me it looked as if their players had chucked it as a few weeks ago I was thinking that Fox had managed to find a sweet spot and improve their team. Rarely have I seen such bad shooting - and I've seen some bad Killie teams who have really struggled down the years, before anyone says anything - in a Premiership team. Edged it, enjoyed the day out and the pie was decent too. Hope United can sort out the off the field stuff soon - it's not fun when you can't enjoy going to see your team because of boardroom issues. Onwards.
  9. Tickets bought and bus up sorted. Any recommendations for a pre-match jar?
  10. And so, we meet again after encounters in the Premiership and League Cup. Who will prevail in another encounter between the terrors and the stripes? I have a rare Saturday aff so I'll be heading up to Tannadice for this one, hoping for anything but a repeat of the last time we went up there. Both teams are abysmal away from home, but last night gives me a bit of confidence that there might actually be something about us if we stick to the same formation and attitude. All that's required now is a magical striker who happens to be a free agent to actually convert chances...
  11. Gutted we can't win the league - I was hoping that after last year we'd get a bit of a taste for silverware! @topcat(The most tip top) you're almost bang on re Willie Waddell - he initially retired from management to go into journalism, but ended up back at Rangers eventually. Still, it's a minor detail and this thread is great fun.
  12. What a difference a day can make. This time last night I was absolutely scunnered with the lack of activity and very pessimistic about the future. Tonight, though, was a brilliant response to everything that happened in the past few days - night and day from Dingwall on Saturday. Almost every player was on form tonight and I'm amazed we didn't score more goals. Was very impressed by Chambers who looks the real deal, I can see why Liverpool have him on their books. While I suspect we probably won't get anything out of Saturday's game away to Livi, that was a big statement and if we can keep the majority of these players in this formation and keep them playing well - plus add a striker who happens to be a free agent - then we might just be able to dig ourselves out of a hole. A good set of results for us tonight, but there's a long way to go in the season...
  13. I'm getting worried that Brophy is going to score and make me miserable.
  14. Funny you should say that, Pete - I often think Killie have a nasty habit of doing this... @Savage Henry
  15. To be fair, if you decide to leave at HT in Edinburgh there's so much variety in terms of where to go to take your mind off things - boozers aplenty. The same most definitely cannot be said about Darvel. This has absolutely broken me, I'm in wee totey pieces laughing at this. Very well played, tell your boss I said you could have tomorrow off.
  16. With the exception of the cup game against Dumbarton at the weekend, we've played well in our last few games without being able to win. Two months ago this game would have been considered a "must not lose", but now we're into "must win" territory instead. I'm hoping that we can take control of the game and do something, because when Dumbarton tried to be as stodgy as possible our players (with the exception of Armstrong, whose suspension is a big blow for us, and Jones) struggled big time to create chances. I predict a very nervy and low-scoring match and would dearly love for this to be the win that starts to get us up the table.
  17. What a slog that was. A real moment of quality from Jones won that, and he definitely was the difference when he came off the bench. Still, we're in the hat for the next round. Well done to Dumbarton for bringing a good support and backing their team.
  18. Wouldn't imagine so, I can't remember the last time that a game at RP was called off due to weather.
  19. Without him, we'd have gone down a lot sooner than we eventually did. Big man was brilliant for us and we were lucky to have him.
  20. Kevin Kyle in the latter stages of Jim Jefferies' tenure. It's no coincidence that we started to be referred to as "Kylemarnock" when he was banging in goals for us and keeping us away from relegation during that time.
  21. Confident ahead of this one - I've enjoyed watching Dumbarton's highlights so far this season and they play a good brand of football. I'd like to think we'll be taking this seriously and won't have any banana skins to deal with. Looking forward to it - and before the game, I'll be playing a set in the 1869 Suite (formerly the Park Suite) from 1:15.
  22. Having just about digested everything from yesterday now, I can hopefully get this thread back on track. Wishful thinking, perhaps, but I'll carry on. Very proud of the team yesterday, every player gave their all and there were no bad players in the stripes with perhaps the exception of Lafferty who shouldn't have started despite our very limited options up front at present. Unlike the previous week where we dug in for more or less the entirety of the game, we went toe to toe with Celtic and were it not for a combination of some excellent saves from Joe Hart and Liam Polwarth getting in the way, we would have had the ball in the net at least once. On the balance of the 90 minutes, I don't think it's unfair to suggest that we deserved to score, but that's football. Regarding the penalty shout just before Celtic scored the winner, when even John Hartson is claiming that a penalty should have been given you know that the referee has made a big blunder. I feel that it's already been done to death and there's no guarantee that we'd have got a goal from a penalty, but it would have been some achievement to take Celtic to extra time given the gulf in resources between us and them. I thought our fans were absolutely brilliant and the team deserved to be applauded off the park despite the loss as there's certainly no shame in losing in the manner we did. In terms of a day out, it made me realise just how much we'd missed out on over the past 11 years without a Hampden appearance for the first team. Had a fantastic day out with friends, met loads of people I knew up at Hampden - some of whom I'd not seen since before covid was a thing - and even after the game, it was a really good night. I really, really hope that we don't have to wait another 11 years to enjoy such a special day.
  23. I don't think we did too badly in the first half, apart from conceding just before the break, but we definitely got lucky in the second half. As @deadasdillinger says, on paper it's probably a Celtic win most times - but football is played on grass (or plastic in our case) and with it being a semi-final, you never do know. I'm looking forward to the occasion and the day out as we haven't had a Hampden day out since March 2012, and as long as we try our very best and don't get embarrassed that's all I can hope for.
  24. I've worked with Arthur Grant - good guy, plenty of good stories about his playing days too.
