  1. No point wasting time with a bunch of seething simpletons who can't understand plain English and even after it's explained to them continue to berate you for the opposite of what you are actually saying so I'm done with this thread. Got better things to do with my time.

  2. What on earth are you even on about? At no point did I advocate a merger. Did you not read this part of my post, "Suspect it's impossible because of what's unfolded over the last few years and if so this definitely isn't a criticism..."?

I didn't miss it, I just think it's daft regardless to think a merger is the next obvious step when the club will be pushing to win the Lowland League regardless next year. The club is big enough to push for that without mystery money that'll disappear in a few years.

With the best will in the world there's not much chance to overcome a club like EK when they have that type of mystery money behind them courtesy of Jim Kean and a revolving door in terms of constantly replenishing the quality of their squad every time they drop points. Not impossible but highly unlikely. Next season might be a window of opportunity if they go up but there's still Tranent spending big as well and lots of other clubs that can reasonably fancy their chances. More chance in other words but still a long shot, especially when the playoffs are factored in.

All I pointed out was the blindingly obvious as to how a similar cash injection could potentially be sourced in a Bo'ness context. If the club don't want to go down that road as my message made abundantly clear I was already aware is likely to be the case and don't have a problem with, then fans need to temper their expectations and enjoy what's happening at the moment. As others have pointed out the club has probably found its level now. Close but no cigar at the top end of the LL at least until top WoS clubs start entering the picture in LL terms which might mean something closer to midtable.

Looking a few years down the road there could be a Bo'ness derby in LL terms and two clubs at Newtown Park entering the Scottish Cup. Hope the mystery money has dried up by then and they go the way of Ballingry Rovers, but the worst case scenario would be they hang around long enough to buy a significant level of success on the park and start to build a following among the younger generation and permanently split the available resources in Bo'ness to support a part-time professional club.

Why has the subject of a merger has raised it's head are we not doing better than the last couple of season 2defeat playing on full size parks if you listen to hunts pod cast i don't think hunts is worry

Was only mentioned because the topic of how extra money could be found in an EK or Tranent sort of way to try to take the next step and move into the SPFL came up. What appears to have been missed in certain responses was that the message in question started with "Suspect it's impossible because of what's unfolded over the last few years...".

Who'd have thought the idea of merging a long standing historic club with one that popped up out of nowhere and then as you acknowledged acted in bad faith might not be popular?

Good news is the only sensible name would be eh... Bo'ness United.

Perhaps worth bearing in mind that my comments were prefaced with, "Suspect it's impossible because of what's unfolded over the last few years and if so this definitely isn't a criticism...".

As things stand I suspect the club is more or less at the glass celing of what can be achieved without some major changes to how it operates that would provide a cash injection to upgrade the ground and fund a promotion push on the park. Kelty reached League One by being willing to tell Tom Johnston to get lost, first join a very unappealing looking EoS and by finding a way to have someone pump money into their club without winding up like Gretna in terms of handing over the keys to the guy on an ego trip. None of that was easy to do.

Bo'ness United initially rejected the move to the EoS the following season and lost its club secretary over that, only did a U-turn at the very last minute and have had "the parasites" emerge subsequent to that. No easy answers on how to emulate what Kelty did but seems to me removing the unwelcome lodgers from the equation would be a necessary step towards getting there. If it is what it is and this season is close to as good as it gets there's nothing hugely bad about that outcome.

  6. Bo'ness Athletic have been around for about 5 years ago and were initially supposed to be part of Bo'ness United but reneged on an MoU that was signed. There is no parallel with the other scenarios you are mentioning and to suggest there is would frankly be absurd. I can understand why there are still raw feelings about what unfolded but having two Bo'ness clubs isn't going to do Bo'ness United any favours long term so pointing out that a solution needs to be found on that should be fair game on here.

A red dot for possibly the daftest suggestion you've made and there have been several to pick from.  The 'parasites' are not welcome.

f**k off and learn some basic social skills. The idea that there needs to be one rather than two Bo'ness clubs for there to be the maximum chance of further progression is nothing more than basic common sense.

Telling NATO countries not spending 2%+ on defence that he'd tell Russia to have fun...

    Certifiable, Grade A nutter.

What does he actually have to do before leading Republicans in Congress and the Senate develop a spine and point out to voters that he is unfit for office and an alternative candidate must be found ASAP? The scary thing is that they are too scared of the backlash from their voting base to do something like that. The US was formed by white supremacists back in 1776 and has had a very dubious history where race is concerned ever since so maybe it's the imminent end of white voters being the majority of the electorate that is causing this mass psychosis.

  9. Getting rid of East Kilbride through the Club 42 playoff would help make next season wide open on the league title. Suspect it's impossible because of what's unfolded over the last few years and if so this definitely isn't a criticism but having some sort of "merger" with Bo'ness Athletic would be another obvious next step if the goal is to get into the SPFL and stay there.

I’m looking forward to our local derby with Larkhall Thistle in season 2027/28.

Think when you play Rutherglen Glencairn in a league fixture is the landmark event on this given how close the two grounds used to be. Don't think it's definite you are finishing last yet though. Worth bearing in mind Albion Rovers' version of The Great Escape when they started the season with John Brogan as manager and soon started to regret that appointment.

The waiver and grace period(s) part is what extends it to the start of the following season.

  12. Ground is already rated at bronze so only issues are likely to be stuff like having a club doctor. Don't think that's going to provide a Get out of Jail Free card.  From what I have seen posted they don't need to be at bronze until the start of next season.

...No club outside the top five in the country surely budgets on Scottish cup. Ludicrous.

Apparently both Darvel and Berwick Rangers did this season and had to make major adjustments financially when the anticipated Scottish Cup run failed to materialise. Something must have blown a hole in Pollok's projected budget for this season for them to be holding an EGM in February and it's not immediately obvious what else that could have been.

...That said I am surprised with Pollok's financial position in comparison to us they are a much bigger club and far higher attendances etc...

The expense associated with becoming licensed may have been part of it and maybe they gambled a bit and budgeted for going further in the Scottish Cup this season than they did? Long term I'm sure they will be fine given the size of their support.

    Wullie,

The BU twitter has a link to a YouTube video of the BU v Gretna game.  Some good BU goals. There's a horrendous Gretna miss when it was 0-0 at 7:48 on the video.

    Enjoy.

  16. That's too bad but the plans for the new ground never looked like they were going to properly meet EoS standards, so this has maybe been coming for a while. Guess there must be a reason they can't play at the athletics stadium like the Jubilee Athletic incarnation of the club did back in the day. Is the ex-banker mentioned above Gavin Masterton?

...The mask came off completely as to why unionist politicians like him have been sat with their thumb up their hole for the last 2 years - the GF agreement only works if there's a unionist majority...

Meanwhile Emma Little-Pengelly is deputy first minister. Check out what her dad got up to in the 1980s if you think the optics of that are really  impossible to handle for Unionist hardliners.

What has taken a couple of years appears to have been coming to terms emotionally with the fact that although remaining aligned with the EU to a greater extent than GB is uncomfortable in emotional terms for Ulster Unionism having unfettered access to both the EU and UK markets actually provides some very strong pragmatic arguments for NI's continuing existence. It's not perfect and they'll still try to make further changes if they can but given the circumstances and the backdrop of what might have unfolded instead Ulster Unionism has ultimately landed on its feet OK.

SF didn't get the type of Brexit they needed to persuade moderate opinion in NI that an immediate move to a United Ireland is the best way forward.

I heard K Park is bronze level imagine they will sort the other things out.

According to the latest PDF on the SFA website, EK are already rated at bronze for their ground:

    https://www.scottishfa.co.uk/media/11303/230124-club-licensing-awards.pdf

as are Cowdenbeath, Cumbernauld Colts and Linlithgow Rose. In the Highland League, only Brechin City have been rated at bronze level for their ground. All these clubs other than Cumbernauld still have some work to do on the admin side to be ready for SPFL membership, which may be nothing more than issues like the club doctor angle in some cases that clubs prefer not to do unless they have to but almost certainly could if they did.
