Absolutely meant to have Kerr in. Gordon has potential for sure, would be interesting to see after a run of games. He's never let us down though. -

The more you think about it the more credit you need to give Tommy. Not only has he rebuilt a young, exciting team we now have assets. Previous successful Saints teams have had at most one player with a monetary value, made up of older journeymen and loyal club players. Now though you can make strong arguments for Clark, Tanser, Joe, Kennedy, Watt and Wright all being worth fairly decent sums. All in a year or two. -

Remember when we did the Paint it blue campaign? Big success. What have we done since? Nowt. I'm struggling to even buy a top for my son such is the stock issues. How do you get to the point you can't even give your money to the club? -

And I forgot about Nydam, Liam Craig and now we've signed Callachan. Did Steve Broon find a million his dad stashed down the back of the sofa? -

We're surely going to have to let some people go if we do get Swanson. There's depth then there's just people wasting away in the reserves. Kennedy Davidson Wright Swanson* Scougall Wotherspoon Alston MacLean McCann -

I don't think Foster has a particular gripe with Swanson. He just hates everybody around him for 90 mins on a Saturday. He's thrown about 20 tantrums in his time here. Still amazed Liam Gordon didn't kick him into the stand at Hamilton. -

Looks like it's just until January. Could be a good short term signing and all being well he'll be a standout. Already excited for the last minute scramble in January to find a replacement midfielder for him when he goes back though :-| -

Kane really bulked up towards the end of last season and provided a real physical presence. There were games where he was bouncing defenders all over the place and looked like he was coming into his own. For the first time in a while I'm very happy with our striking options - we have 4 players whom at the moment I'd be happy starting up top. Add to that we have two very good wingers at the club and even in reserve we have quality in Spoony who can play either side we finally have depth in these areas. -

Everyone's assuming central behind a striker is his preferred position. Anyone asked him? When we played 3 behind the central striker they interchanged in the games. Scougall hardly ever stayed central. To take on that role you are removing a striker so you have to contribute goals and assists. He's not shown he's capable of that. I just don't think he's as good as everyone thinks he is. I'd LOVE to be proved wrong but he's not shown anything to convince me otherwise. Anyway, here's to a Scougall hat trick on Saturday -

Obviously. Balanced opinions which disagree with the majority must mean trolling. There was a significant period of time in the first half of last season where we played 1 striker and 3 advanced players in behind in my opinion to accommodate Scougall. He may have been deployed on the right of that 3 more than central but that formation should have suited him. He didn't have to worry too much about defending as we had 2 holding players in behind. In my opinion he barely influenced a game (he did have 1 or 2 strong performances, one against Hamilton) but in no way justified the hype he came with. He's very light and is afforded little protection and struggles to influence. I'd be happy to be proved wrong but even Tommy preferred an out of position McMillan to him sitting off the striker on Saturday though they may have been to compete against Dundees physicality. If he can claim his place and be the star player we all expected him to be I'll be delighted but facts are he's behind both wingers and Alston, Craig and Spoony in the pecking order. -

I hear the out of position card being played a lot regarding Scougall. I presume everyone wants him played central in behind the strikers? A position whenever I've seen him he's been absolutley anonymous. He's had lots of chances. He needs to start getting involved in games though as I feel we carry him when he plays. Huge disappointment. -

Would still take Swanson if we could move Scougall on. He's been a total disappointment. -

Perfectly acceptable to want a permanent solution to a problem position in our team. Look how many loans we went through to get a couple of wingers and look at the problems it causes in January if it's a 6 month loan. I'm happy if it's a years deal. If its 6 months I'd say no to most players on loan. -

Much prefer to see this type of signing than a loan or journeyman. He's young, had huge potential when breaking through, 2 year deal and is a quick attacking player. Add that to Wright, Watt and moving Spoony central as well as the huge reduction in age of the squad its clear the manager wants to see a change of style this year. -

So an on loan player from League 2 (which is a brutal standard, even compared to Scotland). On a positive he played well against us in the cup once. Hopefully us signing him is based on more than that. Welcome Denny Johnstone! -

To be fair when you list them all out there are some decent players in the league. However, i still maintain that Millar keeps/wins possession better than most of them. Others on there provide more attacking threat fair enough. Not having the Aberdeen or Hibs lads as any better though, McGinn aside. -

There aren't many midfielders in Scotland I'd swap for a fit Chris Millar. If he could shoot or had a better range of passing he'd have been a world beater. In terms of ball winning/retention though, top drawer. -

Saying Millar can't tackle is like saying paul Paton can't do lunges from behind. I'd actually wager, confidently, that Millar makes more tackles in a game than both Paton and Muzz. Not big slideys but ball winning interceptions/tackles. -

Denny Johnstone passes the 'Scottish or knows the league' test. He'd fail the 'competent footballer' test though. Paper talk. Hopefully. -

I still don't know what type of Striker Kane is meant to be. In Div 1 he was good in the air and could play off the shoulder. At Saints he seems to come looking with his back to goal but his touch and passing isnt up to much (but has been improving). I think there is a player there but the concern is he's been rewarded again with a contract without managing to hold down a place in the side. I'd argue we should be challenging him to do that first before tying him down. -

It sounds like the issues with Habran are coaching issues. Just like O'halloran had when he joined. I'd rather sign a player with lots of ability who can be coached rather than a player who has zero ability but knows when to tuck in/or when to run in behind etc. That can all be developed. -

Its a fair criticism of Tommy that his signing record has been questionable. Granted hes plucked a few gems out over the years but much of our success has been built around a solid group of professionals who have each earned 250+ apearances for Saints. We tend to sign players then fall back and rely on Millar, Davidson, Craig, Maclean, Easton et al to carry us through. -

Thats very harsh. His power and balance whilst running at speed was second to nobody in the league. I remeber a comedy scene in Europe against Alashkert i think where literally 5 of their players were runnging after him, trying to drag him down. He also developed some intelligence in his deliveries, favouring a cut back from the touchline that Macca fed off for half a season. He's not limited at all.
