No I was talking about Frank Beattie.
I realise that now.
I thought when you mentioned the underpass leading to the Rugby Road gates it was the pass under the East Stand.

I'll console myself with Europe.
Also, i'm looking it from the viewpoint that we have two chances to ruin their seasons between now and end of the season.
It would be nice to ruin it for either of them.
Europe will be a nice prize at the end of the season. Hopefully I can get to an away match this time. Couldn't get a ticket for Wales and had already booked for Belgrade before that game.

Thankfully no bigots teams can win the league in Paisley.
My sympathy for any other team and their fans who might have to watch 1 of them doing so.
I'm now dreading playing Celtic on the 15th May at Rugby Park when I think it is likely if they win they will then win the league that night, as I fully expect them to beat Rangers the previous weekend.
Nothing worse than either of the bigots winning the league at your own ground.

That wee Johnny Walker cover was some noise amplifier.
Strange that it was the away end at that time.
When I first started going in the 60s and up until the late 70s that's where I stood with my father and friends. It wasn't the away end until the fence went in in the early 80s.

Aye, the right hand side of the main stand. Now you mention it, I do remember you pass under the stand there. Looks like maybe at some point in the past the stand went right down to the front there. Just that I see in that pic, the front bit of stand is missing, but thought the houses were built after that.
Before the ground was redeveloped the enclosure in front of the main stand went as far along as it could before it reached the bit you passed under next to the said stand.
Once it was redeveloped I genuinely can no longer remember what happened and whether the stand came right down to the front in that area.

I had always assumed the cut out bit from the main stand was done at the same time as reconstruction, but clearly not. Anyone know why it was/is there?
What do you mean by cut out bit of the main stand?
The stand Squirrelhumper is referring to is the East Stand, which is opposite the main stand.

I was at that game, can't believe it was 44 years ago today, right behind the goals where Sombre scored the goal in your other posting.

After an enjoyable afternoon in Perth I am hoping Arthurlie might make it a doubly good weekend for me.
Hopefully a decent crowd and they try and keep it tight to remain in the tie after today.
Come on the "Lie!!!

Saw The Musical Box (a Peter Gabriel era Genesis tribute band) last night. They were very good.
I've seen them before and they are superb.
Whereabouts did you see them?

I've seen Kilmarnock play at 40 out of the 41 away grounds that covered the leagues until all the new teams started coming into the league in the 1990s/2000s. The only ground I haven't seen Kilmarnock play in out of these teams is Brechin's.
Surprisingly there are quite a few I haven't seen us win at, some despite going to a fair number of times -
- Celtic Park (I actually was outside the ground the one time we beat them there but chose not to go in) I probably won't ever see us win there unless we draw them in a cup tie at Parkhead.
- Ross County
- Livingston
- Arbroath
- Inverness CT
- Stranraer
- Peterhead (only played them there once, I believe, in a midweek cup tie, is haven't been)
- Annan Athletic
We've never played at Cove Rangers, Kelty Hearts, Edinburgh City, Bonnyrigg Rose or Elgin City, so they don't count

You aren't going to get a game that suits everyone. our kick off are Saturdays 2pm that is how it should be in the semi finals. I would imagine hospitality will be sold out already for the Saturday change to Sunday or Friday and it limits the numbers
I'm well aware of when the games kick off as over the last 40+ years I have gone to many Arthurlie games if I am not at the Killie game or we're not playing,
A Friday night would have been perfect for me.

God knows how they are refusing to make games the Saturday for semis. The amount of money teams make on Saturday is more than they'll make on Sunday/friday. Shambles if the semis aren't the Saturday. The potential additional gate money is minimal compared to lose in hospitality.
As someone else has already said the Arthurlie game is the Saturday, which is disappointing from a personal level as I will miss it due to me going to the Killie game.

Strange the QPFC manager is classed as unknown.
Surely it was the famous/infamous Eddie Hunter?

Just catching up on the thread, this was an interesting read, and clearly caused a stir at the time given the amount of column inches dedicated to it.
Of course the real Paisley scandal was the winding up of Abercorn in 1920. Their demise interests me as they would've now been my local club, although our house wasn't built until a couple of years after Abercorn died.
This was the latest photo of the team I could find, taken after their Scottish Qualifying Cup success of 1913.
Presumably they are seated in front of the pavillion at their final home New Ralston Park, a 7000 capacity ground in the east end of the town.
After football, the site was used for Paisley Ice Rink, believed to be the most impressive indoor arena in the UK when it opened in 1940, hosting many concerts and a visit from a certain young boxer in 1965.
The ice rink was itself demolished in the 1970s and the site is now home to Tesco.
Living quite close by and going to a school very close to these parks I find this very interesting,
I did know about Cassius Clay though as it is well known in the Paisley area for people of my age/generation.

It's the first time in the top flight. We kept four in a row in our first four away games in the Championship a couple of years ago - that run was actually five games when you include the 2-0 win over Accies on the final day of our relegation season.
I must have misheard whilst driving back home.

Enjoyed that performance last night.
It's not all about playing nice fancy football, quite often it is about defending well, digging in deep and stopping the opposition create chances, all of which we did very well last night.
Mayo, Deas, Findlay and Ndaba were all superb (i'd love to get the latter 2 signed up permanently) and the keeper had another good game, including a couple of decent saves late on.
McInnes has managed to get the defence playing well as a unit and it's no coincidence we have started getting better results as a consequence. 4 away games without conceding a goal for the first time since 2000 I think he said last night. Hopefully this time next week it will be 5
Big worry for me is Deas is soon to miss a game through suspension and Wright will have to come in, and I think we lose more goals when he plays. Hopefully just for 1 game as Deas deserves his place.
We could do with scoring more goals to make it a bit less nervous the longer the game goes on, but I didn't think St Mirren would score last night. What has happened to Mark O'Hara? Looks a shadow of the player he's been the last few seasons.
Anyway, having lived less than 2 miles from Paisley for over 60 years and suffered at school in Paisley during the Fergie years, this is my favourite 'away' day and beating St Mirren means much more to me than beating Ayr.

Hopefully the Arthurlie manager sees this post mate. Tactically very poor. We are struggling with injuries but there are no excuses for going out and playing the way we do , game after game we give away goals a schoolboy team would be ashamed of. I didn't see too much between the teams yesterday but unfortunately when you are inept in front of goal and defensively, there is usually only one outcome. We need a miracle to stay in the premier division. We have some very good young players , all we need now is someone who can set them up to look like a football team.
First time I've been down to Dunterlie this season and have to say I was very disappointed in Arthurlie. They could still have been playing today and not scored.
They probably had as much of the ball as Darvel but didn't do anything positive with it. Their best player was the young right back but he was played too deep to be more effective up the park. He did a lot of covering up as well as the defence was not very secure looking.
I liked the look of Dykes as well but he needs more movement around him for the team to benefit from his abilities.
The keeper is also a good shot stopper but I like goalkeepers who command their box and goal line like Leishman does.
Obviously I can't judge them on seeing them once but from folk I know who watch them most weeks I think they are going to struggle to stay up this season - hope not but don't see anything other than this being the case.

Benburb only just sneaks in at the top left corner.
Ibrox top, Albion Greyhound Stadium middle and White City (mainly speedway) at the bottom.
You sure it's Tinto Park? I thought it might be St Anthony's ground at the top of Helen Street.

No it was the one where McGinn got his cheekbone broken. It was a challenge in the air from a Kelly punt where the Killie player was simply late. It was incredible he didn’t give a freekick. I’ve no idea why McGinn was out on the left wing at that point.
Fair enough. I don't have a great memory of this incident and didn't see it clearly as it was on the other side from where i sit. I didn't even know he had a broken cheekbone until you mentioned it.

I thought the referee was totally inconsistent yesterday. Gave lots of really soft fouls and then waves play on for some of the more robust challenges. The one where McGinn got wiped out near the end and he didn’t even give a free kick never mind a yellow card was bizarre.
If it's the one i'm thinking of Lyons took out one of your players and the referee played the advantage for you.
Once the ball went dead at the other end, at least a minute later he did book Lyons - deservedly so.

I was at that game - Ruud Gullitt scored for Feyenoord.
I'm quite sure I remember the Feyenoord fans in the old Main Stand at Love Street.
