  1. Imrie has to put his hands up for that defensive selection. A complete shambles and not surprised by the scoreline.

I thought he was going with 3 at the back and Wilson and French out wide. That would at least made some kind of sense. But O'Connor RB and French LB gave me the fear when they lined up at the start of the game. And so it came to pass we shipped 4 goals. Lets never see that line up again!

Utd deserved their win. No complaints on that as the better team on the night won

I haven't been impressed with macdonald at all. Mullen has been far better.

I thought he was excellent at Ibrox and he's someone who's always impressed me. I don't see someone of his age sitting on the bench as Mullen will be our No. 1

So can't see him staying regardless..

We do however require an adequate back up to Mullen as he won't play every game next season. Murdoch is not the answer as yet

This degree of utter delusion (see also our centre back partnership above) is why we can't actually have nice things. Even when all available evidence from recent weeks points to the need for an utterly ruthless purge of deadwood, you never disappoint in puffing up gubbins squad filler.

There is no issue with McDonald's ability, only his fitness. Throughout his career he has been an excellent keeper. Also played a blinder for us at Ibrox too. I don't know what his injury is but if he can fully recover then we really should be considering him. Whether he would want to be back up to Mullen at his age maybe a deciding  factor of course.

Waters is a competent player at this level. I don't see an issue in keeping him next season.

Who knows what our budget will be next season. We need to increase the size of the squad for sure.

It would be great to upgrade in all positions, but budget restrictions may hamper that. Giving a contract to competent players like Waters, who really haven't let us down is maybe an unavoidable route we will have to take

Now that we're more or less consigned to a dull mid-table finish (assuming we don't somehow tumble into 9th, which we're getting uncomfortably close to) it's approaching the time to start thinking to next season.

    Already signed up

Mullen, Baird, Wilson, King, O'Boy, Bearne, Davies - No major gripes with any of these, decent spine to build from and some players with points to prove. Big year for King and Bearne.

    Must keep

Strapp, Oakley, Crawford - All nearly impossible to replace in terms of quality in the player market we need to operate in. We'll do well to hold onto them.

    Should keep

Muirhead, Garrity, Blues, O'Connor - All have played a big part at times this season, but have also shown they need quality around them before they can be effective. Probably harsh to not have Muirhead as a must keep as his goal return is very difficult to replace and we'd likely be down with Arbroath without him, but he has his obvious drawbacks and has had extended periods where he's offered very little. He should stay but we need better competition for his place next season when he's off the boil.

    50/50

Waters, French, Power, McGrattan, Gillespie, Quitongo - Wouldn't have any big problems with any of these staying or leaving. Power a level above the rest, but I'm not sure he has another year in him. The rest have been OK, but they're not going to be starters in a team that fits this 3 year strategy to consolidate us as a top 16 team. If I had to pick one to get rid of it would be French, can do better.

    Release

Broadfoot and McDonald - Goes without saying really. Both contributed at times this season but have also cost us a lot of points.

McDonald when fit is one of the best keepers in this division. I'm not sure what his injury actually is but if he can get back to full fitness then I would keep. Mullen seems to have injury problems throughout his career so regardless we cannot go into next season with an inexperienced back up keeper.

Broadfoot is a fitness fanatic, but even so, I'm not sure if he has another season in him at this level. At the start of this season I thought he would have been used sparingly but has played in most games over the season. He's also contributed with goals too.

Muirhead has 15 or 16 goals this season, that will be hard to replace if Robbie moves on. He's also played in most of our games this season which is also a great return. In fact so have Blues and Crawford and all of them look a bit fatigued now.

If Strapp goes then Waters is a very decent player at this level. French will probably move on, but would keep as I think with a good pre-season he could be a very good player for us.

Power has played some great games for us and perhaps not being rested recently has resulted in a drop in form. I like him and hope he has another season with us.

Blues progression as a player seems to have come to a halt. Imrie seems to like him but he is one frustrating player.

Gillespie has had a poor season compared to last season. He's a 50/50 for me as is Jai. We know when on form and fit there's not many defences that can handle him. Depending on his fitness 50/50.

McGrattan hasn't taken his chances when given a start in the team. How long do you give him?

I don't think the squad needs a massive  cull. Some will move on to other clubs, some will be let go. It's getting the right replacements and having a bigger squad of players for next season

  5. Suggestions of dropping Muirhead are absurd. He's always a goal threat and in a day when our goal could come from a set piece it would be ludicrous having him on the bench.

I would also start Bearne, he deserves another start after last weeks performance. In some ways he was like the fresh player we didn't sign in the January transfer window. He didn't look jaded or fatigued like some others have been recently. A young lad who hasn't played a lot of minutes he should have a lot in his tank even at this stage in the season.

  6. Well in command of the game but made heavy weather of it. Bearne was our best player and I'm so glad he took his chance as he's been waiting a long time.

Can't remember Mullen making any save of note and overall we defended well when needed.

Great header from Broadfoot and Big Robbie's strike was too powerful to hold by Ferrie.

Great to get back to winning ways again. We're still very much in the mix and that 4th spot is all to play for!

  7. Not sure what team will turn up on Saturday. A few of our players looked jaded against the Pars for some reason.

If players are feeling the effects of a long season the Dougie must utilise the squad. To be fair he did give McGrattan a start last week and inexplicably he didn't take it.

Muirhead, Crawford, French and Blues just didn't perform. But all are important players for us so we can't make wholesale changes and of course we don't have that big a squad.

I would like to see a bit of width in the team this week. We're not really creating chances at the moment and when we do we're not taking them. Funnily enough the Scotland team  against N. Ireland reminded me so much of Morton at the moment.

It's a home game so we should be looking for a win!

  8. A draw would have been a fair result but no complaints about the score as we simply didn't take our chances.

Crawford managed to miss from about 2 yards in a goal line clearance and Muirhead misses a penalty with the keeper making a fine save.

I thought both Robbie's were poor today and both look to have ran out of steam. They've certainly put in a shift over the season and maybe it's caught up with them.

Dougie needs to freshen things up next week and utilise the squad. As mentioned big Robbie was ineffectual today and has been off it for a few weeks now.

Surprised McGrattan yet again didn't take his chance today. He's been good when he's come on as a sub and perhaps deserved a run out. But totally disappeared in the game.

Garrity was lively when he eventually came on even although he over hit a couple of crosses. Oakley needs more minutes to get back up to speed again.

Dougie has a lot of thinking to do as we cannot play like we did today for the remainder of games.

O'Connor drops to the bench... Broadfoot stays in. Shambles.

At least we've got gorgeous George back up top!

Broadfoot has been good in his appearances of late. O'Connor has had a few moments without being poor.

Oakley back is tremendous, but he will be lacking match fitness. Get a good 60 minutes out of him and it could make all the difference

  10. We're going through a wee mini injury crisis at the moment with players out and some playing who are not 100%.

Listening to Dougie last week he was hoping to get a couple of players back "within a week to 10 days" Whether those players make it for this game or not, who knows?

If they don't make it I'd go with the same team we had against Hearts in the same positions and not like we had against Partick.

  11.  £200K profit for this season would be fantastic given how long we have been in fan ownership.  The Club is in good hands too with people like Michael Harkins who do all this on a voluntary basis.

Good news is some of this profit will go into next season's playing budget.

Not an immediate concern, but something that will need to be addressed is the stadium itself in the near future. Diverting money to the stadium will mean other areas will suffer, possibly the squad budget. It will be some juggling act but it's something we'll need to face at some point
