The possibility of the WoS failing to provide a licenced club to compete in the LL promotion play-offs needs to be addressed and, if a change of wording by the LL, somehow just cannot be done, then the WoS may consider making the top division "all licenced clubs" in say five seasons time? Wouldn't be popular though.

They have already considered it and rejected it before even getting to a vote.

I remember going to love street 1997/1998 arthurlie v kilwinning rangers and it was 6,000 for that semi final alone.

Was thinking similar earlier on. I was at both semi finals in 1994. Kilwinning must have had around 5K of the 6,151 that were at Somerset v Largs. In the other semi final, Arthurlie had the bulk of the 7,192 crowd against Glenafton.

I did wonder at the time what size a crowd an Arthurlie v Kilwinning final would have had. Although there was a healthy 8,668 at Ibrox for Largs/Glenafton.

Official number was about 1300, could’ve been a lot more though.

"was about" 1300 - that doesn't sound very official. There should be an exact figure somewhere that is being reported to the SJFA as they need to know how their 60% share was arrived at. Why do the SJFA never release the reported attendance figures? They should have them for all games in this competition.

We were told we couldn't play a regional cup match due to a later round Junior Cup match being a few miles away. This was a few years ago now but in the Pie and Bovril era.

Needless to say, it didn't help our backlog. No games for weeks.

There was a rule at one time (during the six regions era) where no match could take place within 45 miles of a semi final game and no games at all in the region of either the semi finalists.

In a 3 way play off do they not do penalty kicks as well if a draw after 90 minutes I think..

Ok - I revise my play-off results. Talbot and Broxburn beat Dalbeattie Star 1-0, Talbot and Broxburn draw 2--2 and Broxburn win 4-1 on penalties. The end result is the same - Possil YM is happy yet again a West club fails to get promoted.

EDITED to 4-1 on penalties. Any more corrections and Beith are winning the League.

  6. Here's the League table on this date last year (it popped up on my Facebook memories).

    No photo description available.

I've got this feeling Auchinleck might actually win the League despite their dreadful start. I know they're worse off this time around but they're getting a run of results at a good time. 10 wins out the last 11 games. There have been four more games played overall on this date this season.

Standard procedures at any ticketed match is that the away team get allocated tickets and the home team pass these to away team, they then sell them on behalf of the home team and determine the priority amongst their own fans.

Darvel should have known this was standard procedure and waited for the tickets from Auchinleck. But Auchinleck are not wanting the game to be all ticket - so all those tickets sold by Darvel will need refunded as they will be worthless on the day of the match.

So you don't think Pollok might attract outsiders that don't live in Shawlands. They might even have season tickets for elsewhere in Glasgow and enjoy a visit to Newslandsfield when the big team is away or maybe playing on a Sunday.

Come to think of it, why do Clydebank play a lot of games on a Friday night?

I think of all the teams at this level, Clydebank will have the LEAST following a "big team" . Certainly when they started out in the Juniors Clydebank WAS the big team - (ignoring the petty arguments), they saw themselves as a continuation of the team that had only about 16 or 17 years earlier been playing in the Scottish Premier Division.

Any idea what league Gretna have nominated if they go down?

    South of Scotland League.

I still think there is other issues with the LL, clubs in it bar a few are relatively not well supported, I would assume the average gate at most West teams will far better the LL teams.

Really? I would say only Auchinleck, Beith, Clydebank, Irvine Meadow & Pollok have significant supports. (Add Kilwinning & Kilbirnie from the Division below). I would imagine the ex-SPFL clubs will have higher attendances than the remaining Premier clubs. More or less the same in each Division (just now) and this will improve over the next three years.

  10. The dross is slowly but surely being removed from the Lowland League.

Of the current 18 clubs - 2 can't go anywhere.

Four are from the original founding members and it looks like one of those will be promoted (EK) and one will likely be relegated this year or next (Gretna).

Four clubs applied after the initial season and one of those (Edinburgh Uni) will likely be gone soon.

That leaves 8 clubs as a result of what happened on the park.

So within three years the Lowland League will be the most competitive with a real prize on offer. At the moment from the West perspective winning promotion is only a prize on the way to the SPFL.

Think there's no danger of that happening when you have a WoS officeholder answer with a straight "no" as his reply on that scenario. There is little to no transparency on this matter for some reason, but it's not the club that gets to choose by all accounts but the four leagues involved. Personally think where each LL club would be relegated should be stated explicitly on the league websites involved, so there is no room for doubt, but maybe there's some procedural reason why they can't do that.

That was in relation to it happening this season - that is, mid-season.

Perhaps @glensmad could clarify who decides which league a club can drop into (whether the club themselves or they're told where they're going) ?

Also, if it is the former can they change their mind at end of one season for the next season?

As for transparency - there is a list somewhere for every club in the LL (excluding Hearts and Celtic B teams). They just don't want the public knowing it.

If Gretna were to get relegated could they opt to drop into the WOSFL as opposed to the East or South?

Just wondering about the situation if the above happens and Beith (for example) win the league.

I'm sure every club nominates which League they will drop into if relegated so at the start of the season it is known where they will go. I don't know if that means say at the end of this season, if Gretna survive, they could change their mind an nominate the WOSFL for the start of 2024-25 season.

I noticed South Challenge Cup are making all clubs charge all under 16s at least £3. Any reason for this? Seems poor for our level. To be honest I don't see why both clubs couldn't just ignore it and not charge under 16s. Not as although South Challenge Cup will have officials at every single game. Won't chuck you out the competition for not charging under 16s.

Don't want another Junior Cup v South Challenge Cup debate but even SJFA have said to clubs up to them to charge under 16s or not. We should be encouraging younger generation along to games especially during international break when no SPFL games on.

The timing of this can't have been an accident.
