  1. Arbroath, Ayr, Dundee United, Hampden and Firhill are probably comfortably the top 5. I actually think Tannadice might be under-rated based on this thread so far - some cracking pubs that are well-priced, near the ground and a decent away end. Only thing that spoils it is the price to get in. I like most of the grounds as an away day in this league actually. The Caley Stadium is easily the worst although Inverness itself is good for a weekend away so if you can manage or afford that you're still onto a winner. New Broomfield is objectively a terrible place to watch football but I do think some of the pubs are probably unknown/under-rated for away day purposes. West End Bar (unless you Tweet about wanting a square-go), Cue Here and The Albert are all grand places for a pint and aren't that far from the ground.

While we’re all on a high - who would you consider your POTY so far? I imagine there could be varied responses because we’ve had different standouts at different times. Megwa certainly a standout but at the club for too short a time to be considered. Aiken was a standout early on but has obviously been injured for a long spell. Todorov certainly on form now and if he keeps that up he could be considered. I’d imagine Fordyce and Telfer would be popular shouts but I’d go for Rae personally. Could see how much we improved last season when he came back in and he’s maybe not always had lots to do but I feel so confident watching him deal with balls into the box and playing with the ball at his feet (and he’s had a lot less dodgy moments so far than last season and hasn’t even been sent off yet). I’d probably go for Hancock as YPOTY so far.

First quarter I’d have said Ballantyne PotY and Aiken YPotY. Second quarter probably a combination of Megwa or Hancock. At the moment I’m leaning towards Telfer PotY and Hancock YPotY although Rae is up there for me too. Nice to have so many players in contention and, of course, Ballantyne, Aiken or A.N. Other could make a late surge for either award.

Ayr fan in peace - are there any pubs near Airdrie train station that I could take my 8 year old in ahead of the game in a couple of weeks?  Trying to decide if I'm letting him come or not 🤣

The West End Bar is good and I think is child friendly (just don’t tweet about asking Airdrie fans for a square go as I’m sure they’ll be especially obliging to an Ayr fan). Cue Here is as well I’m sure and, as the name suggests, offers pool tables if you’re into that kind of thing. I’m not a huge fan of the stadium bar but it is handy if you got kid(s) coming along.

Been a very enjoyable few weeks playing some good sides at home and getting good results against all of them. It's clear that at home we are a match for anyone.

Looking ahead, the next challenge for this team is to improve our away form. We are 2nd in the league on home form, but 10th on away form. We only have 6 home games left compared to 9 away and our next league game is also a home game to Ayr - so 9 of our last 14 games are away from home. Therefore it's going to be a long slog to May if we don't improve on our away form, which so far has been dreadful. I'm confident that we'll continue to win or draw our home games which alone should be enough to avoid 9th or 10th. But if we want to look any higher we'll need to start beating teams around us away from home.

Realised today that we’re due to play Raith the weekend of the Challenge Cup final. So whatever happens we’ll have another midweek away game to play, which is annoying.

I've still got one eye on the bottom 2 places of the table even though I do believe It's virtually impossible for Arbroath to finish out of the bottom 2. Two free hits coming up and wins would be great confidence boosters but ultimately our next 2 league games, Ayr (H) & Morton (A) are much more important and will go a long way to securing 8th place.

We're in a decent place but I still would like to see us signing a mobile centre forward as it would add so much to the side and different to what we've got. Perhaps someone in the mould of Jermaine Hylton until the season end might be realistic.

It’s a shame that the cup semi-final coincided with a league game at Arbroath. Looking at their team and bench yesterday I’d have fancied us even with our own injuries.

Agreed on needing another centre forward. We probably needed one anyway but think after yesterday it’s a bit of a must. McGregor did about as well as he could be expected to, and he was unlucky not to get in behind a couple of times. And O’Connor actually had a couple of nice touches when he came on. But they’re either not a proper centre forward or good enough yet to be playing in that position at this level and I never feel like we’re carrying much of a goal threat when they are.

If O’Connor doesn’t start tomorrow he never will. Agree that he’s offered very little and I can’t say I’d expect much from him if he does start but it’ll be awful for his confidence if McGregor starts over him out of position or if the shape that’s been working is changed purely to avoid starting him. I feel O’Connor’s in a similar place as McGregor was last season where you can see he has pace but he doesn’t appear to have much else. A run in the team worked wonders for McGregor and it might be the same for O’Connor. I’m not saying I’d be confident of him playing well, or even that he’s earned the chance, but it might be worth giving him a chance by bringing him into a team that’s playing well and getting results when he is the obvious replacement given the fitness issues that others have.

I wonder if Lyall can play upfront? Might be worth a go if he can. Do understand your logic. Gabby’s pressing and link-up play have been essential parts in getting us up the park and enabling our recent winning run. But, even if O’Connor can press the defence well with his pace, I just don't think he’s anywhere near technically good enough to start games upfront atm with every point being a prisoner. I don’t think McGregor is good enough at centre forward either FWIW.

I for one will be going for a quiet pint of the best Tennents lager in Airdrie at the West End pre match. Think Scott and his team deserve all the support we can give them.

    Planning to be there too.

Looking forward to this. Always enjoy games v Thistle and this one should have a bit of an extra edge to it with both teams coming into the game in good form. I fancy us to give anyone a game at home but, if Gabby McGill and Gal both miss this one then I do fancy us a lot less. Will, presumably, necessitate a formation change which isn't ideal.

Fancy our chances in this one if we play to our full potential. Would be nice to have everyone fit by then (Ballantyne ?  and Aiken) excluded.

When we reached our last 2 cup finals we beat a certain team (Hearts) on the way in the semi - finals.
    Can lightning strike 3 times??

Are  the stars aligning for a cup win 100 years on. Where’s Mystic Meg when you need her!!😂😂😂

We also beat St Johnstone en route to winning it in '24 ;)

If anybody wants a laugh get yourself over to the Jambos kickback forum and see the Airdrie thread. Lots of Clydebank, John Martins a scab, Airdrie fans are racist/nazis chat. It’s like a mental institution for angry hate filled Hearts supporters. Good to still all those defeats still hurt them 😂

Not taking any accusations of being racist/right-wing/far right from *Hearts* fans of all clubs.

Was thinking about this during the game today. The amount of big home games we’ve won over the last few years is ridiculous compared to the decade or so before it. Can add today, Partick Thistle and both Raith games to the list above. It’s great having a very likeable team doing all of this too.

Even just the number of games we win at home in general. Feels like we've hardly lost at New Broomfield since that run late in the Covid season. Which is a stark change from our home record from probably every season playing there before that!

  11. What a brilliant day Saturday was. I wasn't that excited initially after the draw was made, but on the day itself it was fantastic having what felt like, and ultimately was, a big(ish) cup tie at the stadium. And as others have said, a fully deserved win against an established Premiership side. Nice that that's becoming a bit of a habit! Frizzell was the best player on the park, Telfer and Hancock were outstanding as they have been for months, Fordyce was never troubled by that big dumplin' Kimpioka or Stevie May and shoutout to Watson who ably replaced Megwa* and McMaster who came into the side after a few weeks out and strolled it. When we take a lead and maintain our shape I'm not sure I've ever seen an Airdrie team look so comfortable on and off the ball. St Johnstone never looked like scoring and I'm not sure Raith, Inverness, Morton or Queen's Park, penalty aside, did either. I'm buzzing to play Hearts. We shouldn't get carried away. It's the most difficult tie we could get outside the Old Firm but, they're not infallible and I'd fancy us to give anyone a game at home. More than anything else I'm looking forward to the sense of occasion it will bring to the town and the stadium. Hearts have never played competitively at New Broomfield so should bring a big crowd through. I just hope it's Saturday at 15:00 so we can really optimise the crowd and that sense of occasion. I could tolerate Saturday tea-time but Friday, Saturday mid-day, Sunday or Monday would be shite.

My only worry after Saturday would be I hope Gabby and Gal's knocks aren't too serious. If they are then we'll need to bring in another forward or hope Lyall can play upfront because if we have to rely on O'Connor for any length of time we're goosed.

Class to see Megwa at our game and celebrating with the players at full-time rather than up at Forfar*.
