  1. Delighted to have Megwa back. I think, Saturday aside, we have coped well without him. But no doubt we’re a better team for having a player of his calibre and you can never have too many good players I guess! Also nice that he seems to want to play for us and feels appreciated at Airdrie. Will be interesting to see how McCabe fits all of Megwa, Hancock and Ballantyne in but I hope he does, whether that’s with the back 3/5 or Hancock moved to centre-half. All three have probably been our best player at one point or another this season so it’d be a shame for any of them to miss out. Good job with the signing video @el Gringo.
  2. He will be missed: [ ] Not at all [ ] To some extent [X] Very much so [ ] Don't know
  3. Frustrating one. Don’t think we played that badly middle to front. But Dowds will never score another 3 easier goals. Three absolute gifts. Indeed, about half of his goals this season must be gifts from us. Really missed Fordyce. Don’t think McCabe won a header up against Dowds all game and, while this is very uncommon, Fordyce’s long passes might even have been better than McCabe’s today! Don’t fancy going up against Oakley and Muirhead next week if Fordyce is missing. Watson was poor today. The defence has been largely excellent this season, and Watson has been much better than probably anybody expected him to be. But we were possibly shown up for our lack of recruitment at centre-half. ATS hasn’t been in the picture for a while now but I’m not sure he wouldn’t be a better option in there. Don’t think he makes those mistakes with his passing and he’s possibly a better option in the air against Dowds than McCabe and Watson too. I like all of our forwards but today I think also highlighted that we need much better quality upfront - both in terms of being clinical and holding the ball up/linking play/playing outside the box. Todorov wasn’t in the game at all and Gal and Gabby are clearly still working their way back to fitness. Frustrating to have dropped 9/9 points against Ayr. Each team in this league seems to have a team or two that they just can’t beat for whatever reason. But hopefully today’s dropped points don’t prove too costly in the final run-in.
  4. I think Doncaster City is a McKay creation or vehicle. They were only established a year or two ago and play at the bottom of the English pyramid., Central Midlands North League or some other such nonsense. Mark McKay is the chairman and Jack McKay plays for them, as does our trialist from this pre-season Muhamet Gashi. I think it was Doncaster City who tried to get into the Scottish Cup last season under the Treaty of Durham.
  5. Met Ian McMillan when I was the mascot in September 2004. A true gentleman and always a treasure to speak to on the occasions I met him. Was always struck by how humble he was given his talent and the career he had.
  6. Director’s son Ball boy Player Scotland international (5 caps as an Airdrie player) Manager 3 x hall-of-famer (Airdrie, Scottish football and Rangers) President The greatest Airdrieonian. RIP Ian McMillan.
  7. I managed to get a ticket in the club 1924 sale. Totally agree that the tickets should be exclusively for Airdrie fans and hopefully the pre-sale has allowed that to mostly happen. FWIW someone on the Facebook group has said this is the case, 97% of tickets sold to Airdrie fans apparently, although how they’re privy to that information I don’t know. Good to hear if true as any Man United hanger-ons can f**k off. I actually think the speakers should all be Airdrie-related too, although at least Alex Ferguson should have some Airdrie stories!
  8. Not ideal having so many midweek away games, but comes with the territory of winning cup games and being a big team that opposition sides postpone our fixtures in fear of I guess.
  9. I thought we competed well yesterday. A shame to go 3-0 down so early on, us hitting the bar and them going straight up the park to score their second killed the game, and was a good microcosm of the difference between the teams. We didn’t take the bulk of our chances while they were ruthless. But I thought we held our own at times, against what’s by a mile the 3rd best team in the country, whilst playing our own style. We’ve got to be happy that we can do that against such a good team. Frizz took his goal well and Hancock, other than getting caught in two minds for the 2nd, was excellent. And I thought Lyall showed up well too. We clearly lack quality upfront but McGregor put in a power of hard work and a bit more quality or firepower beside him might have helped make it even more of a contest. Hearts are just a few levels above us unfortunately. Shankland and Gordon especially (get them on the plane to the Euros) but Grant, Niewuenhoff and Vargas also really impressed. Assuming we don’t draw the Old Firm next season we won’t play a team as good as that for a while. Brilliant to see the stadium so full and it have that big cup game/occasion atmosphere for the first time in a while. Hopefully the club made a decent chunk from the tie and hopefully we’ll get a few more nights like that over the next couple of seasons.
  10. A couple of my personal favourites were comments on the club’s Facebook page. One person suggesting a boycott of the car park situation and another rhetorically asking the club if they suggest he gets a train from Stirling to Airdrie via changing at Glasgow. Yes? I will also be getting the train from Glasgow and you will be completely fine I appreciate the potential issues RE accessibility or mobility but, I’m sure if you phone the club they will sort parking for you and, indeed, this seems have happened already for a couple of fans who mentioned this issue on the Facebook page. I don’t think the parking situation as is on Sunday would be sustainable *if* we got promoted. But for a one off game I think folk will survive if you take alternative modes of transport to the game, walk or park a bit further away or earlier before the game as a one-off. If we’re talking about moaning though, definitely eat before you go because no chance you’re both getting a pie and seeing the game on Sunday
  11. I assume they’ve got a big(ish) name lined-up. I know that’s the done thing at these sort of events. But I’d personally rather have the event be exclusively about Airdrie and a celebration of the centenary and that team. Maybe that is the plan TBF. Have ex Airdrie players, legends, fans - John Henderson talking about the team and its historical significance would be perfect - and any surviving family members of players.
  12. Anyone going to go to the 1924 centenary dinner? My dad and I probably will. But £100 a ticket and not in Airdrie, on a working Sunday night? Not ideal, better be bloody good!
  13. Saw a few folk complaining about it on Facebook and Twitter, but I’m not really sure why? It was always likely to be one of Falkirk, Hamilton or Broadwood and Falkirk is by no means the worst of those three. Don’t see what the issue is for a few reasons - A) It’s not Broadwood. B) Good travelling distance and easy to get to from Airdrie/Glasgow/Edinburgh. C) Not Broadwood. D) Good pubs in Falkirk. E) Winning a trophy at the Falkirk Stadium will be good fun. F) Our record there in recent years is fantastic. G Not Broadwood.
  14. Arbroath, Ayr, Dundee United, Hampden and Firhill are probably comfortably the top 5. I actually think Tannadice might be under-rated based on this thread so far - some cracking pubs that are well-priced, near the ground and a decent away end. Only thing that spoils it is the price to get in. I like most of the grounds as an away day in this league actually. The Caley Stadium is easily the worst although Inverness itself is good for a weekend away so if you can manage or afford that you're still onto a winner. New Broomfield is objectively a terrible place to watch football but I do think some of the pubs are probably unknown/under-rated for away day purposes. West End Bar (unless you Tweet about wanting a square-go), Cue Here and The Albert are all grand places for a pint and aren't that far from the ground.
  15. First quarter I’d have said Ballantyne PotY and Aiken YPotY. Second quarter probably a combination of Megwa or Hancock. At the moment I’m leaning towards Telfer PotY and Hancock YPotY although Rae is up there for me too. Nice to have so many players in contention and, of course, Ballantyne, Aiken or A.N. Other could make a late surge for either award.
  16. The West End Bar is good and I think is child friendly (just don’t tweet about asking Airdrie fans for a square go as I’m sure they’ll be especially obliging to an Ayr fan). Cue Here is as well I’m sure and, as the name suggests, offers pool tables if you’re into that kind of thing. I’m not a huge fan of the stadium bar but it is handy if you got kid(s) coming along.
  17. The bench is looking stronger than it has done recently. With Lyall, Gabby and Aiken still to return.
  18. Sounds like Donnell is a good all-rounder. Has a bit of size, can get around the pitch and his passing and goal stats are decent, with the big caveat that that’s all at youth level. Hopefully he can make a difference in the final third whether from midfield or upfront.
