Unfortunately today went as I expected since McIntyre's appointment. He's a manager who plays 4-4-2 with wingers fairly religiously, and as I've argued over the past few years we absolutely do not have the players to play that way. Until he gets his own players in, if he plays a 4-4-2 for the rest of this month we're gonna get absolutely demolished in the midfield against any other team in the division.

In the mid-long term I've no issue with us playing with that as our shape, but we cannot do so until we've got several players in to cover key positions. I like both Gold and Slater, but they're not a midfield two at this level, and with most teams playing 3 in the centre of the park they're onto a hiding to nothing before the game starts. With the squad we have currently, I'd look to play the next 4 games with a fairly defensive 4-5-1 with another body in alongside Gold and Slater until at least January when we can make proper changes.

    Central midfield is woefully inadequate

didn’t mind the look of how we set up but I thought it would of been hylton wide with LM9 up top how it never changed through the game I’ll never know cause it didn’t work.

don’t think we played the conditions well at all today and I hope to never see slater on corners again delivery's were awful

corners needed to be fizzed in

Well they might have but they all left in January when Hartley come in…. 😂 only big McClelland was in the squad when we drew 1-1 away to them at the end of the season and he was on the bench.

There absolutely will be loans to be had that would be good players for the squad right now - saying there are no loans to be had from Scottish Premiership teams any more when there are 16 of them, a full team and subs bench, in other Championship squads doesn’t make any sense

It is definitely harder you are right but I think for all the reasons given Premiership clubs didn’t really like sending their players here - hopefully with McIntyre it will be a fresh starter

Agree, that probably will be suitable loans available in January, that we’re not available at the start of the season, players on expiring contracts, with no future at their current clubs

Not sure what you mean by this?Loan market has never been for experienced pros. Since we have come into the championship Miko Virtanen, Craig Wighton, Ben Williamson, Chris Hamilton & Jack Hamilton have all been young lads who've come in and done well. Dick & co seemed to abandon the loan market in the last couple seasons, but I wonder how much of that was to do with Prem clubs not wanting to loan us players due to the way we played, and how Dick used them (Was not a fan of him but Hancock playing left wing for example). I hope that with a fresh start at the club under McIntyre we once again will be able to use the loan market well.

But nobody decent since the Hamilton's, we’re a championship club, no a proving ground for laddies, we need experienced professionals to get us out of the position we are in

I thought Ruth was ok and wanted him to get more of a chance.

Bitsindou done a job in fairness. He played centre half that day we beat Dundee at Dens. Played there in a game we drew against Dundee at home too. Filled in there pretty well

Harrison Clark the only one who I thought was gubbins

I saw this tweet in the summer - I do think the way we played under Dick on the whole was massively over exaggerated - I do think that some Premie clubs definitely had this feeling about us though

Also these rules were all in place when McIntyre was at Cove and he had Charlie Gilmour, Kyle McLelland, Jack Sanders and Max Johnston on loan - all 4 looked like good players in the game they beat us 2-0 up there. Sanders and Johnston especially

These loanees didn’t keep Cove up, so using them as examples is pointless and Ruth was nowhere near good enough, hence where he is playing now

They need to scrap the recruitment team and hybrid system. Go back to what has worked in the past. Good solid part time players and loans

Due to bigger match day squads, the loan market hopeless for us, in the championship, very few good experienced pros available, alright loaning laddies to leagues 1&2 no use for the championship

    Wow, didn’t seen that coming.

He was awful for us (Cove), didn’t have confidence in our HL players who were clearly better than the ones he brought in and managed to destroy any spirit we had in the dressing room from the promotion up to the Championship by getting rid of of 20 goal a season striker over a petty squabble then the team fell apart. The only plus side is that he picked up a few decent loaners but whether that was by luck or judgement I’ve no idea.

Good luck staying up, he wasn’t totally to blame for us going down last season but if he hadn’t fallen out with most of the players before he had to be got rid of I think we would have stayed up.

Well am not surprised in the least

I wouldn't say we were lucky. We had more points than 2 other teams over a whole season and that is not luck. We were awful for a lot of games but managed to dig out some good draws. Wasn't good viewing for most of the game though.

Oh we were, they’re can’t have been many teams who were as bad as us and stayed up

My gut feeling is that we will be relegated at the end of the season no matter who the new manager may be. That might not be a bad thing as there would probably be less pressure on the new manager by trying to win promotion, than by trying to stay in the Championship. He will need time to get to know the players and to get them to adapt to how he wants the game to be played. Most other Championship sides know how to play against our one dimensional football, which I hope the new manager will change. But it will always be a challenge for a part time side to become established in the Championship.

I have no idea who the new manager will be and some of the speculation on here is a bit wild, but you never know, just hope the board make a sound choice.

Eventually you’re luck runs out, we were really lucky to stay up last season, just don’t believe Cove or Hamilton were worse than we were at our worst, we were dreadful, if each season is just going to be a battle for survival, you can just imagine the quality of the football

Personally, as always I'm amazed by the number of "in the know" types.  Seems our club apparently leaks like a sieve.  Either that or everyone is making up things to make themselves feel special.

I know nothing, but am going to speculate the f**k out of this, until we appoint someone, then I’ll be delighted or disappointed

As we all know, appointing any manager is a high risk - sometimes it works well, other times not so good ........

I think John Hughes could be a good fit, he knows the Championship, has lots of experience and had good contacts - he failed as Falkirk and Dunfermline, but that was under difficult circumstances - I'd be happy to roll the dice and see how it plays out.

Couldn’t save Raith or Dunfermline from relegation, a hard no from me

Why the hell not, wouldn’t be disappointed if we appoint Kevin Thomson

Agree - also I know we’ve been absolutely rotten for most of the season but there is good players in the squad right now - good enough to be able to get some results before January anyway.

I feel like my comments the other day are the thing that is bugging me the most - we have so many players who are similar - choking for a big physical centre mid, some defensive cover and another 1 or 2 different options going forward.

Hylton and McKenna aside, McKenna who doesn’t even do it overly often, we never have any midfield runners getting in behind and stretching other teams. Our right side is always so conservative too.

Hoping for a wee shake up - feel like DC teams have always been so reliant on how well the striker plays or how well our main man Bobby Linn played. The whole team done a job but to win games we always feel so overly reliant on one player.

But what we don’t need is to spend a bogie load of cash in January, bringing in and getting rid of players, it pretty obvious where we have an aching need, DM, CB,( sorry Ricky, club legend) a left sided player , (can’t see Hylton staying if we’re struggling), still be relegated  and be stuck with these contracts in league 1, where I believe it would be easier to rebuild

DC has left big boots to fill and sadly, I think we could drop out of the Championship for sometime - DC kept us in the Championship for an amazing 5 years!

My understanding is that Pink was paying for Scot Allan's wages - so no idea how that will play out.

Injuries, loss of form and a failure to sign a suitable defender and midfielder resulted in DCs undoing - and it should be noted that some of the players have to take responsibility for this - they let DC down.

Finding a manager to steady the ship and keep us in the Championship is going to be a tall order - would avoid any rushed decisions.

Am no buying this, get the right man in, club has made money while the sun shone, we have better players than last season, get couple out in Jan, couple in, a centre mid and a centre half/right back/ left back, as Steele or Hammy could play with ToB, we have to go back to being defensively sound

Last season was that bad you have consigned it out of your memory as it was Hamilton that were awful rather than qots.

From the outside last season looked like a success and ultimately the goal was achieved but the football especially at home was terrible. That said we had the battling quality to hold firm and secure draws in games we looked like losing but this has disappeared this season.

We are still in a reasonable league position though and well in touch with the rest of the league and with the correct appointment we may stay up.

The loan market disappearing for Campbell really seemed to be pivotal as we did very well over the years with Martin, Williamson, Virtanen, C Hamilton, J Hamilton, Nouble that just gave the squad a bit of a boost with the brilliance of Linn, McKenna and an excellent defence we have had a very enjoyable time under Campbell for the majority of his reign as Manager.

Certain bit of truth about the shrinking of the loan market
