  1. I think the Marvin deal could literally be the best bit of transfer business we've ever done given that he was nowhere near the player McFafdden or O'Donnell were (in my time, getting Davie Cooper for 50k might have been the only better one). The £8m we get for Kipre next summer will top it though
  2. I'm not seeing that anywhere - I wonder if they were being premature...
  3. I think it would take silly money for us to sell either of them on the last day.....
  4. I followed that account in one of the previous windows - a total mile-oot and it explains why the 150k thing sounded like a lot of bollocks.
  5. I see that there is some chat that they offered 150k-odd for Cadden, which makes no sense on a number of levels...
  6. That's ironic - by selling Johnson, they will hugely strengthen our hand in the negotiations
  7. I reckon given the seemingly lengthy discussion with Blackburn yesterday that they'll come back with an improved deadline day offer and he'll be offski. On the surface, the club seem to be driving a harder bargain than has been the case... Good that Cadden and Moult aren't really being mentioned at the moment....
  8. I agree on Moult and Randolph - I was mystified that no-one put even a derisory bid on a 'keeper that was clearly playing at a level way below his capabilities - it was a rare occasion when you get a genuine top class player at a club like ours. But I disagree that a 250k bid on Heneghan is a sign that football has gone mad - Blackburn are simply doing what we are doing relative to the higher financial level they are operating at. They are effectively taking a relatively low risk punt (given the prices down south) on a young player who they feel has the potential to develop further. There is probably good money to be made in turning good players in the Scottish top flight into 7-figure players simply by "laundering" them through an english club - like Oxford and Johnson. It is this route that 'Well are looking to make a big chunk of our "player trading" money I guess - the initial transfer fee is less of a big deal than it was...
  9. I agree on Heneghan - he's looking good this season so far (but I was saying precisely the same thing at this point last season). If it goes through today, it at least avoids the last minute scramble at 10pm on deadline day that I've been dreading and gives us a chance to replace him properly.
  10. If we do get more than 250k (+ addons) for Heneghan and keep Moult and Cadden for another window or two - that's got be a very satisfactory outcome (unless you're Louis Moult obviously)
  11. While I think this has worked in the past - I would hope that we've moved away from it for now - especially as the vast majority of players that have left over the past few years you wouldn't want anywhere near a motherwell jersey ever again.... The club, for good or bad, has their strategy and it needs to be allowed to play out. If we do sell a player this window and get an add-on from last summer's window - that is evidence of it working as planned I guess.
  12. If we sell a player (heneghan) for, say, 250k- I guess the club would be looking at almost £1m in un-budgeted income before tax, etc this summer (Marvin sell-on, Celtic CL money, mythical Heneghan money, League Cup QF) - which for a fan-owned club would be a pretty good position to be in...
  13. *If* we cash in on Heneghan, it would begin to prove that the strategy is actually a viable thing - but it would also be quite impressive/important if we'd turned a profit on a player who was poor for much of last season (with some justification given the mess our team was and his inexperience). My only minor quibble would be that if we are only going to have these type of players for a year before we sell them, what does it do to the turnover of the squad? I guess the upside of a high turnover is that (a) presumably it would be quite profitable and (b) you could attract better players if you have a track record of shifting players to a "better" club quickly. PS - totally unrelated - but does anyone know why there are no fixtures on the 11th November? Can't see a scotland game scheduled and the league cup final (which we'll definitely be in) is on the 26th
  14. I've always seen DoF as one of the cushiest jobs in football - whereas Manager/1st team coach is the opposite, so apart from the general hilarity I find it odd that anyone would voluntarily step "downstairs"...
  15. Are Marilyn's not the ones that you get in housing estates & lumps of rock in the Atlantic, etc? 1200 is a ludicrous number and I guess there are shitloads outside of Scotland too. The SMC also records "Furths" alongside Munro, Corbett, Graham & Donald completions - I had to google that one...
  16. Age caught up with Lasley and injury caught up with McManus - I would imagine that Hammell will think he still has a playing contribution to make as he's not that old and he's not completely crocked like McManus, even if he's way more injury prone than he was. If he's fit - I'd be quite happy to see him in team - against Aberdeen in the LC QF for example... On the Marvin Johnson thing - picking him up from the conference is fast looking like one of the best pieces of transfer business we've ever done (especially as he isn't exactly a world beater)
  17. Just back from a bit of an epic in Galloway, which is an area that I didn't know well - I knew the weather was looking ropy but it wasn't looking great anywhere and so went for it anyway. Yesterday, Climbed the Merrick, Kirriereoch Hill, Tarfessock and Shalloch an Minnoch and then wild camped at a place called "Willie's Shiel" which must be one of the the most isolated former houses I've encountered. Today, I climbed Mullwharchar, Dungeon Hill and Craignaw. 2 Corbetts, 2 Grahams and er, 7 Donalds... Weather was grim today, so no views but Dungeon hill and Craignaw feel like they've been transported from the Highlands - very rocky and I would climb them on a nicer day if it wasn't for the worst bogfest of a path that I've ever been on (and that's saying something) that leads into them....my sense of humour took a major kicking on the walk out today...Loch Neldricken was also a fantastic wild spot which I'd never heard of before this trip...
  18. I like Tait - after our right back problems, it's been good to have a natural RB in there. As an attacking player, his delivery is amongst the best in the team but he certainly has his limits defensively once he comes against the better wide men in the league. Against Aberdeen last year, I was watching him vs Hayes through my fingers... I don't know about the finances about bringing in another RB - but I wonder if McManus and Lasley retiring, Mcdonald & Ainsworth being offski and a host of others being moved on is actually allowing us to have more of an actual, usable squad than we had before. It could also be that Cadden is on his way of course...
  19. Haha! You've got to love when they sign a trialist (and a 2nd choice one at that), discover he's actually quite good and slap an extension in front of him after a couple of weeks. That's Moulty's payrise spent Great news though - if handled right, he could be a properly decent defender. He's got a lot to learn but given his physical attributes and the fact he can clearly play some football as well as heading everything, i'm genuinely surprised he was struggling for a club this summer to the extent that he had to go on trial.
  20. That's out of the blue - I'm used to someone who obsessively follows/stalks 'Flow's twitter feed to tell me who he's started following recently. I like a signing that the Columbo's didn't pick up on Cue someone saying that he's "great on Football Manager"
  21. Genuine question - are any of those the four-box cheap as possible breeze block specials that we excel at in Scotland? I would guess that a lot of those stadiums are relatively high spec.... ETA - to answer my own question, I looked at the Molde one at random - doesn't look like a Barr to me....
  22. Not doubting you BTW - just odd that Robinson and/or Moult have told the press and the club are still waiting for an official response..
  23. So - he's told the press before telling the club officially? And Robinson confirmed it in the interview - so seems a bit odd...
  24. Not surprised about Moult obviously - my concern has always been that he leaves very late in this window giving us no chance to replace him properly a' la Marvin Johnson - and that is at least a possibility...
