I forgot to mention this last week buy a guy I work with got a substantial tax rebate a month or so ago then last week got two letters saying he was due them money now, £500 more than the rebate.

He was on hold to HMRC most of Friday basically screaming g his N.I number at his phone getting the "sorry, I didn't quite catch that" back. He's from Cornwall, so it's not just Scottish boys they don't understand.

Dealing with HMRC is a complete nightmare even when you do get through. You spend an hour on hold then get put through to either a complete simpleton or someone who can barely speak English.

Ireland women beat us in the play-offs and went to the World Cup, and have then put together a winning Nations League campaign (albeit helped by being in a lower tier). That will have made a big difference.

If we hadn't bottled the last two qualifying campaigns I think our crowds would be massively higher.

3,000 for a qualifier with thousands of free tickets handed out is very worrying though. The trains before kick off were incredibly quiet and there weren’t even stalls up selling merchandise. Just zero interest. The women’s game is generally growing in most countries and we seem to be going backwards.

It's a bit like the men's team, if they can stop being rubbish the crowds will come along.

Scotland women are ranked above Ireland women. It’s not that simple. Something has gone badly wrong in the promotion of the women’s game in this country.

Honours won during the alcoholic, chain smoking plumber era

Dundee were the bigger club when they were playing with the ball below & they talked about ‘inside left’ & ‘left half’ as positions & played about 8 strikers. It’s basically a different sport. Haven’t won the big cup since 1900 odd either.

How old were you when Dundee last won something meaningful? How many trophies have Dundee Utd won in your lifetime since the last time you saw Dundee win a major trophy?

Not to mention the fact Dundee haven’t averaged over 7k fans since 00/01 (according to transfermarkt). United have done so in 17 seasons since then…

Dundee United have won far more honours recently and played in Europe more often (especially recently).

Dundee United’s turnover is £8m+. I couldn’t find a figure for Dundee FC. The reason for this is that they qualify as a ‘small company’, whereas United do not - this means that the disclosure requirements for their financial statements are less stringent. Says it all really.

I would be interested to know on which metrics Dundee are ‘bigger’.

Ah the Perth chat with time limits.

So it depends your age on how you determine how big a club are? Gotcha.

"They’ve spent most of the last two decades in the Championship/First Division"

I understand you want to have a pop with it being your big derby week, but stop telling lies min.

I’d say it probably plays a pretty important part in how you view a club, yes.

How is it a lie? How many seasons out of the last 20 have you spent in the second tier? I’ll wait.

The cope is dripping off this post HARD

I think Dundee fans are the only folk in the country who think Dundee United aren't a bigger club tbh.

Agree with you here. Dundee might be the bigger club to pensioners but it’s been 50 years since they’ve won anything, so realistically you’d have to around 60 to even remember a cup win. They’ve spent most of the last two decades in the Championship/First Division & have a smaller fanbase nowadays than United as well (United have a higher average attendance despite being in a lower tier this season). In my lifetime Dundee United have always been a pretty solid team, winning trophies, reaching cup finals, playing in Europe etc.

Perhaps historically Dundee were bigger, but it’s not the case anymore. It’s like arguing Queens Park are one of the biggest clubs in Scotland because they won loads of trophies outwith most people’s living memory.

Wales are not, by any stretch of the imagination, close neighbours. It takes fucking ages to get there (and if you do drive there make sure you stop off at the pricey but impeccable Gloucester Services).

It is just bitter jealousy. I hate that they're better than us, but celebrated wildly in an unpronounceable bar in Cardiff when they beat Belgium. Stunning result.

Making it to the semi finals of a major tournament is something I’d be willing to bet I never see Scotland do. I don’t think I’ll ever witness a player as good as Bale play for Scotland. It’s annoying as a fan of a bigger and more traditional football nation that Wales fans have experienced that.

It’s also why a lot of diddy team fans (especially Hibernian) are bitter about St Johnstone Football Club. We’ve been much more successful than nearly every Scottish club of a similar size in recent history and it’s made fans of other clubs very resentful. If we’d been pissing about down in the Championship for the last 15 years then the level of bitterness would be nowhere near the same level.

Wales/the Welsh/the Welsh national team are fine. I don't get the hate for them.

It’s sheer seething jealousy about how much more successful they’ve been than Scotland in the past couple of decades.

It depends what he did. There's a difference between spending 100k with an estate planner to avoid inheritance tax, or just taking reasonable steps yourself to give money to your family.

The political appetite from the conservative party is to remove inheritance tax altogether which is a totally bonkers idea. It's actually a sad indictment of political discourse that's even a serious discussion.

On your first point - as Shadow Play says, you should probably look into what was actually done re his estate. If you think rich (socialist) people using loopholes to avoid paying tax isn’t hypocritical then fair enough.

Regarding the second, there are plenty far more egalitarian societies than the UK that have scrapped inheritance tax - Norway and Sweden being prime examples - and so it’s not the most ‘bonkers’ idea ever. Those countries, of course, have other (seemingly more effective) ways of taxing wealth. Not that I’m advocating for the UK to scrap inheritance tax obviously.

Travelled 5 hours up from England to Hampden to watch that. Hotel costs, food, 2 days off work and 5 hours back tomorrow.

Absolutely fucking grim. Only a friendly but very worrying and one of my lowest points as a Scotland fan in recent years

    This makes total sense too.

It's one thing being against the system, and trying to change it, but if you can't then your options are either follow it, or donate your families money to the state where it will be a rounding error on their enormous balance sheet.

    Quite an easy choice really.

You can think the tax rate should be 60%, not 40%, and send 20% extra to HMRC just for a laugh.

This will change nothing (it will probably cost HMRC more hassle if anything).

There’s a difference between paying additional tax voluntarily and taking active steps to avoid tax. It makes you look pretty hypocritical when you’ve railed against inherited privilege, to then not pay what you’re due within the spirit of the law.
