Back 3 of Easton, Martin and Odoffin for 85 minutes.

5 minutes left Rice brought on Ben Stirling for Charlie Trafford put Stirling at Centre back and shifted Odoffin into midfield.

In fairness St Johnstone were on top at the point and may have equalized regardless but it was a big call at a big moment in the season made worse by Stirling looking badly at fault for the goal.

It was Aaron Martin who was the nearest to Melamed, though Stirling had his arm up claiming for offside which wouldn't have helped him to get closer. We all want to see Odoffin in midfield but it does seem crazy to needlessly disrupt the defence with minutes to go.

He used to joke about being an Accies fan because Ian St John was from Motherwell so not all bad even if some of the Scottish goalie patter grated a bit at times. Barnet became my favourite English club after he compared the Accies to them on Saint & Greavsie.

The Accies connection came after a comment he made. He said "You'll Never Walk Alone" not sure the context then added " unless you support Hamilton Academicals". Accies then got in touch and invited him to come up to visit. I think they hoped he'd come up for a game but filming commitments made that impossible so they came up in midweek. This was around 1984/85. The next season we won the First Division so got a mention on the show now and then and he also mentioned us in his Shoot letters page. Our captain at the time, Alex Hamill, even made an appearance on a Michael Parkinson show when Jimmy Greaves was a guest to present him with something from the club.

I doubt Ian St John ever mocked Scottish goalkeepers especially as the most prominent one during the show's run was Jim Leighton, who always showed up well for Scotland. Always liked Ian, a sad day but a man who had a great life.

Genuinely expected this today and was disappointed when Accies lost to them midweek. How on earth is Lennon still in a job?

I'm really annoyed at myself. Had a tenner on Livi at Parkhead, a tenner on them at Tony Macaroni and £1.50 on Accies but today I only had it on a BTTS bet...and it didn't bloody come up. But we'll done Saints, from an Accies fan.

I'd describe him as a hard working pest.

Will run all day. Not the most technical footballer/finisher (although he scored a Van Basten type volley against Aberdeen at Pittodrie).

I just checked his record and he scored 8 goals in 36 apps. for us. Doesn't sound impressive but playing up front for us is a hard, thankless task.

I'd take him in a heartbeat over all our strikers apart from Ogkmpoe.

To be fair,  it was a half volley. Two vital goals at Tynecastle too, I'd happily see him back.

  5. Gloriously unexpected. Well haven't been THAT bad lately, you played Dundee United off the park last week and drew with Aberdeen recently. We're without our ball winner in midfield, about five more certain starters and our forwards have only got about three goals between them, and one of them is injured anyway. This is up there with the 5-0 in 2015, make no mistake. And credit where it's due to Brian Rice. He shouldn't be there, but I'm glad for him and hope he succeeds. Now if we could just get those suspended points back...

  6. Jim began his playing career at Accies and did very well, winning a move to Clyde then onto Dundee and Kilmarnock. Played the most games and scored the most goals while at Accies.

I loved his United teams of the 80s, and I loved Fergie's Dons too. It was great seeing the Old Firm have to take a back seat, especially in Europe. Really envious of those here who were at the 5-0 Monchengladbach second leg. Didn't they once scored five in Monaco too, before they got big? Wonderful, nerve wracking nights in front of the telly  as a teenager watching United beat Barcelona home and away, my Rangers supporting Dad cheering like mad when Clark and Ferguson scored in the Camp Nou. And the reunion with Monchengladbach in 87, Ferguson again and Ian Redford (RIP), more wild cheers in our house. Final was an anti-climax, as was the Scottish Cup final, when United were robbed by a ludicrous offside. I really wanted United to win, for Jim and for a group of players who really deserved it.

RIP Jim, you miserable old bugger.

Since we last beat St Mirren 3-0,  in Sept 18. Think the next best was beating your lot 4-0 the year before. We've actually had quite a few thumping wins in the Prem.

I'd guess we've had a handful of 3+ goal wins in the Premiership. Can't actually think of many in the SPL (4-1 v Hibs, 3-0 v Killie... any more?).

How can you forget beating Motherwell 5-0 & 4-0 in the same season? We've beaten St Mirren 3-0 twice at NDP as well as Aberdeen and Inverness. We also beat Ross County 4-0 in our great spell in 14/15. Just remembered another 4-0 v Dundee United.

Think you're right about SPL, there weren't many. There was also 3-1 at Pittodrie when Flavio missed a great chance to put us 4-0 up but we let them score a consolation with nine men.

Biggest win for Accies in god knows how long. Level on points with St Mirren and they now only have 1 game in hand
