Im starting to feel like a broken record with this  but I don't feel like my question is being answered properly. And I'm not anti SJC.

Why if the same 4 teams were in the semis of the SJC and the WOSFL Cup would the attendances be higher at the SJC games and don't give me its the history crap and I'm not a Junior man. A good game of football is a good game of football no matter the competition.

I'm not aiming this at you a1981, it's just your comment got me thinking. Answers from anyone please, I genuinely want to understand why?

Not wanting to turn this into another thread of 2 sides from entrenched positions calling each other wrong but I will make a couple of points.

    1. In answer to your question, I think (and you are not going to like this) for some it is the history of the competition and the recognition it currently has. There were people who I have not seen at an Arthurlie game today in years. Also some who were there from both sets will not know of what changes have happened in the past 5 years with the East teams leaving and frankly probably wouldn't care and only saw "Scottish Junior Cup Semi Final".

    2. As someone who can count on 1 hand the games I have missed this season I firmly believe that even if you say the crowd was 45% each teams support and 10% neutrals that is still more than treble what our normal home support is. In the old WOS we went to Meadow Park for the Semi and the crowd was lucky to be over 500 and the final that year at Newlandsfield between us and Kilwinning was not much higher.

At our last AGM, I proposed that Arthurlie resign their membership of the SJFA and play in the Strathclyde Demolition Cup as I felt the rewards were better. I still believe that to be the case, but today showed me there's still some interest in the old cup yet.

Totally agree mate and that's when the Scottish was the Scottish when it was all In with the top East teams In it ,now it's just a diluted west cup in my opinion.

I tend to agree although not sure a WOS cup semi final would get the attendances that the games got this weekend. I know the attendance was given as 1313, but it would be higher by a couple of hundred imo given kids U12 went free and they were swarming the pitch at HT.

  3. Initial thoughts on the game, Arthurlie started brighter and lead with a cracking half volley from Mark Docherty. Game became quite scrappy after that until Burgh had a period of dominance that started by Graham Black denying Kyle Lafferty with a top save. Burgh got their equaliser not long after after Layden, for some explicable reason pulled the Burgh player back in the box, with Lafferty converting. I expected Burgh to push on but they didn't and the game went in level at the break.

2nd half and this time it was Burgh who started the better but without creating many clear cut chances. Arthurlie went back in front with a fine goal from left back Connor Bradley who rode a couple of challenges before curling home, almost immediately Burgh should have levelled when Stuart McCann was denied by Black. Burgh started to dominate and levelled after a good run by McDonald was finished by our ex player Dale Simeon (fair play for not celebrating). We had a glorious chance at the end when Max Kerr went through but he chose the wrong option of trying to find Dykes rather than shooting.

Our habit of conceding poor goals continues as both goals were preventable. It now becomes a 1 off game at Kennie Park next week.

    A great crowd and atmosphere.

Well it was a bit ungracious tbh. I wish you all the best against the billionaires.

Possibly, but wasn't aimed only at Bankies. Plenty of other clubs have done so this season either with very poor starts, poor middle of the seasons and poor end to a season like yourselves.

ETA thanks for the best wishes.

Let's hope you don't shite any beds this weekend then or your season's looking pretty keech itself

Too late, we already have. We deserve to be where we are and even making it to the Junior Cup final (which tbh I dont care about). Maybe a wrong and grumpy choice of words that I used but I am getting pretty sick with this view that only certain clubs in the West want promotion to the LL based upon fan comments and preconceived bias.

I have just read this full 23 pages and as a complete outsider who only goes to Dunfermline games, but works with lots of people involved in EoS and LL I am not surprised that the rest of football think the WoS have a arrogance insular attitude.

The suggestion that this isn’t a massive conflict of interest just shows how backwards certain clubs are, definitely looks like the big Ayrshire clubs are bitter that football has moved on. Some of there fans have come across as arrogant c***s who feel free to denounce the opinion of anyone that doesn’t fit there agenda.

Funny thing is these teams think themselves better than Linlithgow, Bo’ness but are shitting the bed to move up

Which clubs (not supporters on a forum) have said they dont want promotion? What people seem to forget is that this is only the 3rd full season of the WOSFL. The issue of not having a licensed champion is partly down to the SFA closing new Licence applications and the fact that the main licensed contenders shat the bed this year. Beith are top having lost 3 of their best players!!

  7. What does brining the Juniors back actually mean? The WOSFL has seen little to no difference other than promotion at the top being in place which I don’t see changing as the SFA would immediately ban teams from competing in the Scottish Cup and I don’t think those that have spent a lot of money in getting their grounds up to licence standard are going to allow that to happen.

Too late now, but did the board actually have the power to disband the league without a vote of the members? I doubt it.

Whether they had the power or not, anyone disagreeing (or even just wanting an open debate) could have called an EGM.

Totally agree but I again IIRC, there wasn’t the need for a vote as all the clubs left when it was made known that there was no future for the West Region. Again IIRC correctly there was some discussion amongst some of the Lower Division teams about changing their mind but it came to nothing.

I would ask anyone who says clubs are anti pyramid to give evidence. I haven’t seen anything other than some fans opinions and while not to be discounted don’t seem to be the opinions of the clubs.

From the outside, which is where I am, it certainly looks like some clubs only became licensed to gain access to the golden goose of the Big Scottish. There is no cohesion across the league's and again from the outside all are working to their own agenda and to hell with what'd good for the set-up.

It most certainly does not help that the governing association are only paying lip service to the pyramid and don't appear interested in its development in any form other than to kowtow to the whims of those 2 unmentionables.

You’re missing the point though. The SFA are not allowing new licensing applications until after the AGM this year. So that is one reason we might end up with a non licensed champion again through no fault of Beith.

They could have stayed in the West Region. Junior football may well have ended up being Ayrshire, Central, East, North. As we've seen the North and Midlands are happy with the status quo or will still float the 'Central League' idea so the old East teams get away from the Highland League.

Its now a case of the "senior/pyramid' minded don't have anywhere else to go as the SFA or other Lowland area leagues aren't going to sanction another West league.

IIRC correctly the West Region Board informed members that they were closing their doors and that unless they wanted to start their own league then they were to apply to the newly formed WOSFL. There was never an offer from the SJFA to do what they did in the Midlands and North so what were the clubs supposed to do?

FWIW I always wanted the WOSFL to be about progression and clubs that wanted to do so. I pushed my club and held discussions with several other clubs on behalf of my club to get to allow our members to make an informed choice.

On your point about not sanctioning another league, my point on that was only if the doom mongers are correct and this is the begging of taking the WOSFL out of the pyramid then I do think there would be the sanctioning of a new league but that’s a massive IF as there has been nothing mentioned other than some Bankies fans who don’t know anything more than we do.

  11. 53 minutes ago, An Absolute Imposter said:

Seriously if any clubs don't want to be a part of the pyramid then that is their democratic right, but do the decent thing and go set up your own league and call it whatever you want. Stop sabotaging the set up for those clubs that want to be a part of the pyramid.

Why be a part of something you constantly belittle. Makes no sense.

Who is sabotaging anything? One person is being nominated to a role in the WOSFL. Nothing else so far has changed. He might not get in FFS. I don’t think we should make the SCC optional but I no longer hold a role where I can express that opinion. I don’t think this is going to change the WOSFL place in the pyramid, but if it did then those clubs who want to breakaway can do so or vice versa.

Remember that all the clubs moved to the WOSFL as they had no where else to go at that time.

I don’t want to go back away from the pyramid but nothing has indicated that being the case so far. Let’s get upset when something actually changes FFS

  12. On the topic as a whole.

Is it a conflict of interest - yes

Is it a SJFA takeover - maybe

At the end of the day the clubs make the best decisions for themselves. It’s a democracy and every club gets a vote. I personally only see one thing being changed which is that (if as reported) the SCC becomes optional. Again though just because there is a change of Chairman doesn’t mean it will/wont happen. It could happen no matter who the Chair is as all it takes is 2 clubs to propose/second an amendment to the rules and it would be voted on.

Someone asked earlier why my club would propose a new Chairman. I have my suspicions but I don’t think it would be fair to put them out publicly ATM.

I do think there is an overreaction in some quarters to something that hasn’t happened yet. People will have their reasons but the mudslinging on here about it is ridiculous.

Agree with most of that.  Last two teams I want relegated are meadow and arthurlie they're almost like local derbies for me, great days out to irvine and barrhead and catch up with good friends. Just don't get that away to a gartairn cage, a bens cage/st cadocs cage  , a drumchapel wherever they play or a peasy plastic.

Not wanting to sound bad here but I want the local teams and good wee away days.

I think we all do. Both clubs (Meadow & ourselves) have been extremely poor. We have no win in our last 10, give away really bad goals and don’t score enough. Thats a recipe for relegation.

The run in the Scottish has glossed over poor management. We got lucky in the Bens game (Bens arses fell out of them when we got a goal back and in the last minute of stoppage time Leyden attempt to launch the ball forward lead to a blunder by the keeper) and if Bellshill had been better they would have been out of sight before we scored 2 late goal having done nothing for the previous 80.

    Beith 4-2 Arthurlie

Scoreline probably flattered us a wee bit although we did miss a few good chances in the 2nd half. 1st half was dreadful and Beith downed tools when it went 4-0 in the 1st minute of the 2nd half. If the hadn’t it could have been a lot worse for us. 1st division incoming.

Johnstone Burgh 6 Cambuslang Rangers 1

Lang keeper kept the score from being double figures, to be honest.

Lots of interested neutrals on a very cold and wet night.

I agree but thought Cambuslang had a couple of decent player. McGinty started getting further up the park in the 2nd half getting more influence on the game and as you say in another post scored a good goal. Thought the big striker for Lang was decent, worked hard and gave the 2 Burgh CBs some issues.

Burgh deserved to win it and were good value for their 6 goals.

Both teams had chances to win it in the second half, most notably when Arthurlie hit the crossbar.

An entertaining game - not a great deal of football played in the strong wind but hotly contested like a cup-tie; neither team wasting time and both keen to get on with it.

Can’t disagree with that summation. Didn’t think either team did enough to win with neither keeper making and save of note. Wind was bad and that was as cold a game as I can remember.

Not surprised Jamie's been shown the door however think its extremely harsh. 6 years he's taken them from the pit of junior football to being a well backed club again in a respected division. The turn over of players clearly has been a hinderance & he's maybe shot himself in the foot with going all out so soon after investment . I do think the burgh would have went up with adding maybe 3 or 4 to the squad from last year. I was surprised at the time too see Brian Connor loaned out , then Jojo Gillsepie & Jamie McGowan sold. Heard Murdo's got the job already but could just be chinese whispers.

He might end up getting it but if he has been offered it, it would be strange to advertise the job.

A game we nearly stole but arthurlie were miles better than us first half and looked a right good team , second half we were better again but if we play like that Saturday and against talbot the season will just fritter out

Can’t argue much with what you said Legend. Thought we had a wee spell in the 2nd half that if we had got our noses in front we could have won it. At the end you had those 2 massive chances to win. Still not sure how the boy missed with the last kick of the game.

  19. Coulda, woulda, shoulda kind of night for us. Brilliant 1st half, hit the bar at the start of the 2nd, then a deflected goal got Darvel back into it, goalkeeping error lead to the equaliser and thought it was only a matter of time before Darvel won it. But credit to the players who gave it a go and had some chances to get back in front but we had to hold on at the death as Darvel missed 2 sitters that would have won it.

Need to get 3 points rather than 1s to stay up.

Community Youth Clubs will continue to play in youth football, they don't need to go anywhere. Clubs that are already amateur don't need to go anywhere.  Clubs that perhaps don't even exist don't need to go anywhere.

The only issue that needed addressing in the west, and still needs addressing, is the closed door to accessing the league.

While I am onboard with your last point there, I do think it is good thing about having the club come from SAFA ranks but for different reasons that are raised on here if you are going to have a cap.

I think we need to make sure that any club coming in is sustainable. We have already seen a club in the West become a franchise and move and change their name last season due to the committee deciding they wanted to concentrate on Youth Football. Several of the new entrants still dont have their own grounds and are sharing outwith the town they are from (not going to go on my rant about this again I promise).

I am all for having as many clubs come in as possible but I think it would be beneficial for them to show their commitment to having adult football by joining the SAFA and preparing for the WOSFL when a place(s) are available.
