  1. To the surprise of absolutely no one, Ross McCormack has been released by Villa.

Does anyone think it would be worth offering him a deal? If we can get him fit and enjoying football again then there's definitely still a player in there. Obviously we couldn't pay anywhere near what he was on at Villa but 3 goals in 3 seasons along with various other issues doesn't really put him in the strongest negotiation position.

Following on from the Hylton signing I notice Burrows saying on Twitter:

and Robinson's quote on the official:

It seems we're going hard with wide players and forwards which, I'm not going to lie, is quite exciting as it suggests we're going baws oot and sticking with #SexyMotherwell and the 433 (especially if Gboly remains a key target). As @Casagolda says it looks like Robinson has a clear idea of what he's after up front; pace, directness and a degree of physicality.

If that's the case then - just putting it out there - Danny Johnson looks increasingly less and less of a fit in the squad eh?

Obviously it's good to have different ways of playing and everything but if our go to is a shape that has one central striker and we have both CEO & Manager talking about adding strikers to the group it pushes Johnson further out to the margins. Granted we might ship Jimmy Scott out on loan for 6 months but there's no getting away from the fact that Johnson's been dropped down the pecking order. If we add another couple of centre forwards then you're potentially looking at 4 players for one space.

Including Cadden because AFAIK he still has a deal on the table and Ariyibi because we've been public about trying to sort a deal then this is roughly where we are (tbh, Semple should be in the Turnbull/Polworth bracket and Cornelius next to Campbell but limited by characters innit):

That has the makings of a decent squad.

The interesting one for me is Hartley. I assumed he'd be gone (and there's still plenty of time for that to be the case) but I wouldn't be at all disappointed if he stayed. If he can get a good pre-season under his belt and get back to how he was when he first signed then he's pretty much a like-for-like replacement for Aldred (who, ironically, was a replacement when Hartley got injured in the first place).

Aye on the Scotland thread putting non Scots up who been capped by other nations at various levels is pretty dence

I would have thought it was pretty clear from my post that I was giving examples of 'keepers in the same league who I think are better than Bain rather than 'keepers who I think should play for Scotland. I'm well aware that not all of those that I gave as examples are Scottish.

  4. Scott Bain is bang average. I don't think he's bad, as such, but is one of the most obvious examples in recent years of someone who becomes a Scotland regular purely on the basis that he plays for one of the Old Firm.

I may be biased but I'd have both Gillespie and Carson at Motherwell before Bain. Zander Clark, Liam Kelly, Daniel Bachmann, Joe Lewis and even a mentally deranged Alan Mcgregor are all better keepers than Bain.

Didn't particularly dislike them until the play-of game.

At least we put them back in their box last season.

Wouldn't care if they went bust.

Sooner these diddy clubs die the better. There must never be an acceptance of more tickets ever again from any of these clubs by rangers even suppose their arsehole chairmen are on their knees begging us.
They have made their beds. Screw them

The craving for the Blue Pound will soon return and when it does I hope we tell them where to go.

Inject this rage into my veins.

  6. I think Turnbull is a brilliant player but facts are that if he's playing for Motherwell we're never getting £5 million+ for him. If we get over £2 million for him I think we're doing well. That's not to say that I don't think he's worth that but most Scottish clubs aren't in a position to hold clubs to ransom.

The way forward for clubs in this country (including Celtic to an extent, with van Dijk being an example) is to get a reasonable transfer fee with a sizeable sell on. If we can get £2 million for Turnbull just now with, say, a 25% sell on then that probably represents decent business as far as the club are concerned.
