  1. Clyde hosted Dundee at Celtic Park in February 1915 too. Most of our home fixtures from the end of October were held there due to a fire damaging the stand at Shawfield. Ibrox, Firhill and Hampden were also used if Celtic had a home game.
  2. I don't think he kept too well and was unable to attend both the 1955 and 1958 Cup finals; the team bus stopped for a few seconds outside his flat in Bridgeton on the way back from Hampden with the trophy so he could see it from his window in '55, then in '58 they went one better, with Harry Haddock taking the cup into his living room so he could hold it.
  3. Clyde players and directors before flying to London in 1955 to beat Arsenal in a friendly at Highbury.
  4. Clyde had two David Thomson's on their books in the late 50s and early 60s. One was a goalkeeper and the other an inside forward, who played together a few times.
  5. I'm missing a fair few dates of birth particularly in the 19th and early 20th century but would be shocked if we've ever fielded anyone older. We lined up with three centre-backs tonight, Rumsby in the middle of Howie and McNiff. Cuddihy and Allison as wing backs. McStay as a holding midfielder and Love, Wallace and Johnston all inter changing and supporting Smith. Lyon came on for Cuddihy a few minutes before the break and Lamont for Wallace at HT. Celtic were fit and very quick coming forward but our defending in and around the box was better then what it has been recently. They lacked a cutting edge but their build up play and passing was good. After getting the second we sat back a bit and it became a 541. They started to get more space in the wide areas as the game progressed but Allison did well for the most part aided by Love (bar an obvious push for their penalty), until they began to tire. Smith was isolated for most of the second half but put in a good shift and was unlucky not to score twice. McStay more like his old self. McGee let an early cross slip through his hands but was otherwise solid, and made a couple of really good saves near the end. Lennon then strolled through the last few minutes. A decent workout overall.
  6. Rules on the Glasgow FA website for this season say there must be at least 6 recognised first team players fielded. Clyde rested David Mitchell, Ray Grant and David Goodwillie. Three others were injured (and I imagine they would have played if fit) and Alex Petkov played for Hearts Reserves earlier today. The rest of the squad was used tonight, with Danny Lennon listing himself as a sub too. Our youth teams are community teams who play in SYFA leagues as opposed to pro-youth/club academy, I assume they'll be on different registrations to SPFL so unsure if that'll have any impact on whether they are used or not. For Clyde anyway I think it'll be a fairly strong side being sent out.
  7. Looks like this will be back at first-team level (well, sort of) for the first time since the 1988-89 season, much to the delight of HibeeJibee I'm sure. Celtic and Rangers will field colt teams (under-21s with 2 overage players). Clyde, Partick Thistle and Queen's Park to play a minimum of 6 recognised first team players. Two trialists permitted too. Round robin home and away format with top two teams in the table contesting the final in April. Admission prices set at £5/£3. Tue 20th August Clyde 3-1 Celtic Colts (Love, Howie, Welsh OG; Henderson) Tue 27th August Rangers Colts 0-2 Partick Thistle (Mansell, Jones) Tue 1st October Partick Thistle 2-1 Queens Park (Mansell, de Vita; Thomson) Tue 3rd December Partick Thistle 9-1 Clyde (Jones, de Vita x2, Galasso x2, Austin, O'Ware, Niang, Cameron; Malcolm) Wed 11th December Queens Park 0-2 Celtic Colts (Burt, Wylie) Tue 17th December Celtic Colts 1-1 Partick Thistle (Burt; Niang) Clyde 1-1 Queens Park (McNeil; Moore) Tue 21st January Celtic Colts 4-1 Clyde (McGrath x2, Dembele, Connell; Johnston) Partick Thistle 1-2 Rangers Colts (Mansell; McPake x2) Tue 28th January Rangers Colts 3-2 Clyde (Mebude, Maxwell, Balde; Smith, McStay) Tue 4th February Rangers Colts 1-1 Celtic Colts (Dickson; Connell) Wed 5th February Queens Park 1-1 Partick Thistle (Foy; Barjonas) Tue 18th February Clyde 3-1 Partick Thistle (McNiff, Love, Smith; Cameron) Tue 3rd March Celtic Colts 3-0 Queens Park (Welsh, McGrath, Burt) Tue 17th March Rangers Colts v Queen's Park Tue 7th April Clyde v Rangers Colts TBA Celtic Colts v Rangers Colts Partick Thistle v Celtic Colts Queens Park v Clyde Queens Park v Rangers Colts Final (Tue 7th/Wed 8th April)
  8. Goodwillie has had a hand in every goal we've scored since he joined. Hat trick vs Elgin and goal vs Montrose yesterday, won the corner for Smith's goal and set up Gormley vs Annan, and won the penalty vs Berwick.
  9. Can anyone name all 90 players Barry used during his reign?
  10. Who will be in charge when Bob Malcolm is sent to the stand?
  11. I'm sure that's Joe Gilroy. Game is probably the League Cup group match at Celtic Park in August 1966.
  12. Yip. 20 of the 23 are full Scottish caps, Rae and Fagerson Jnr have been capped at age grade level and Grigg is a 7s cap (and trained with Scotland squad during Autumn internationals).
  13. I think this could be done with a view for Scotland's 6 Nations preparation too, with Horne out injured, Jackson not getting much game time at Harlequins and Weir not being very good or fitting our style plus he only plays one position, I can see Hogg being our backup 10 in the matchday 23 during the 6N.
  14. Pat Scullion is handsome, talented and successful. It's no surprise that lesser men are terribly jealous of him.
  15. Apart from that it was fairly dull stuff. BF wasn't there so questions relating to the playing side of things couldn't really be answered but expecting to be transfer activity in January. The usual questions about inconsistent results, playing style, turnover of players etc etc. Better relationship with NLL (despite some broken seats). One positive comment from the board was that a couple of players who picked up "season ending" injuries could potentially be back before the end of the season.
  16. One chap asked the board if the stand behind the goal could be opened for Clyde fans at an upcoming game as a special treat.
  17. Last A fixture was in 2014, wasn't any last year due to RWC affecting the calendar and none announced so far for next year. Usually the weekend or 2 before the 6N starts. Only seems to be us, England and Ireland who have ran A teams in recent years. From around 2007 to 2011 we played 3 A games during the season (once during Autumn Internationals and 2 in 6N period), then usually a tournament in the summer too, but with the Italians joining the Pro12 we don't really have the dates in the calendar any more.
  18. Euan Murray on the 2009 tour springs to mind too. Arguably the best tight head prop in world rugby at that time and tamed the Beast during the previous Autumn Internationals. Murray played the midweek before the first test and got crocked, which resulted in the Beast absolutely destroying Phil Vickery.
  19. February 1957. We were strolling to the Second Division at a canter, the only undefeated league team in Britain, and reached the Glasgow Cup Final, League Cup semis and Scottish Cup quarters. Yet some fans still weren't happy.
  20. Even the referee was taking pity on us towards the end. He put his hand in his pocket ready to show our number 2 a yellow with about 10 to go before realising he already booked him in the first half, and gave him a warning instead I don't know if I was hallucinating or not but I could have sworn I saw Marc Waters pop out the tunnel for a couple of seconds in Clyde training gear just prior to kickoff.
  21. Don't think there will be a programme produced for this game but you can pick up a team sheet for 20p at the club office if you want some memento from your visit. 351 is our current record low attendance, vs Berwick in 2012 and Stenny in 1992. (A Challenge Cup tie vs Dumbarton in 1990 at "home" in Airdrie was given as approx 300 but couldn't find an accurate attendance).
