  1. Whoever they are, their derisory offer of repainting the crush barriers and putting in proper hand dryers in the toilets, in exchange for a majority share in the football club and ownership of Cappielow, has been put in the bin, and rightly so. No idea who the chancers involved are but having achieved fan ownership, we're hardly going to throw it away. Investment in Morton is always welcome but maintaining a majority stake owned by the supporters is more important, to prevent the possibility of "Hugh Scott Returns - Nightmare on Sinclair Street" going on general release.
  2. That team pretty much picks itself, for any sensible person at least. Gus would have had Muirhead and Blues in there and Lithgow at CB in place of Ledger. Reilly might be worth bringing on to play the "ex-player scores against former team" joker.
  3. Perfect conditions for football would be if we had a minimum of 11 good players. We really don't, and that's before you take into account that several of the decent ones will likely be on the bench. I wonder if seeing it's Christmas, the management team will select Easdale to start...
  4. The reason our back line has been poor recently is that Lithgow is playing (I'll eschew the obvious joke), that McEntee is currently missing for some reason (minor injury I assume), that Strapp is being played at centre back despite being rather vertically challenged, and that Ledger seems to have been dropped to the bench in favour of Hynes, who is not good enough to perform that role regularly at this level. If we had Ledger and McEntee at CB and Strapp at LB, that would be an improvement. Maybe Jacobs at RB although his true role is as a defensive midfielder tackling people and threading a pinpoint accurate pass through to - oh, hang on, that's Busquet I'm thinking of - anyway, Jacobs, passing the ball to the opposition or hoofing it aimlessly out the field of play. A half decent manager could probably sort this team out just by picking the right players and putting them in the right formation. We are currently less than the sum of our parts, and having the likes of Muirhead and Blues in there doesn't really help (much as they have both on rare occasions shown flashes of ability). I'm guessing another draw, 0-0 or 1-1.
  5. Clearly Arbroath actually have a decent team, given they are sitting in third place. We have about half a dozen decent players, not all of whom will be on the pitch. Lithgow has been appalling recently - I think three of the goals on Saturday were his fault - and our defence needs rearranged slightly - Ledger & Mcentee at CB if both fit, Strapp at LB. No idea about RB as Hynes has been pretty poor. Lyon must start as he is about the only midfielder who is willing to burst through the middle and try to create something. No idea what the result will be but we need to play better than that shitshow on Saturday if we're to get even a point.
  6. Is there any genuine reason why away teams can't use the away dressing room under the main stand? I know they try to have a modicum of social distancing off the pitch but it's surely not beyond us to have the teams arrive at the dressing rooms a few minutes apart? The away team will be there well before most of the spectators, so no real problem there. Same at the end of the game. However, having a damp Portacabin does seem a bit inadequate. Anyway, of course Dodds is pissed off - his team got put out the cup. Had they won, we'd probably hear nothing more about it.
  7. I see Jack Ross has been sacked by Hibs. Probably out of our price range but could be a better option than anyone else whose name has been mentioned.
  8. I only live about 2 miles from Palmerston & a concession ticket is a mere £8. Despite that I suspect I'll probably watch the game on TV. Although with a miniscule attendance and every shout audible right round the ground, does anyone know the Gaelic for "f**k off, Gus"?
  9. With Lithgow and Mclean missing, the obvious thing is indeed to have Ledger and McEntee as the CBs, so expect Lewis Strapp and Kyle Jacobs to fill those two slots...
  10. I thought Dunfermline looked the likelier to win up until Mclean went off - that injury changed the game and we seemed to press higher up the park and start creating more chances. clearly Leger coming on made a huge difference. Gus please learn from that. Madden missed a clear penalty first half (trip on Knowles who was running away from goal) and his yellow card for Connolly was presumably something to do with that double jeopardy thing (the rule about not punishing the foul with a red card as well as a penalty or something like that). Gozie makes a huge difference although in the first half I thought he gave up too easily. I think he is still getting match fit. Glad to have won that and particularly glad that we got the third as I had money on a 3-1 win - someone I know who knows nothing about football made an off the cuff remark about "give me a call after you've seen your team win 3-1" and I took that as an omen. At 28-1. That's what I call a result.
  11. No idea how this will go. 0-0 a distinct possibility, but it could be anything between about 6-0 to either team. We have Gozie back and presumably a week fitter, so at least there is someone to get on the end of Brian Mclean's overhit long clearances. Our strikers have been, well, invisible, for weeks but Dunfermline don't seem to defend well if Saturday's game at Arbroath is any indication. Maybe, just maybe, it might all come together for Morton for once. It's the hope that kills you. Has Gus resigned yet btw?
  12. Gus will probably drop Lyon, keep Blues in the starting line up, and bring in Hynes for Ledger. No doubt Murhead will reappear. I would go with Hamilton, back 4 of Ledger, Lithgow, probably Mclean as nobody else available, and Strapp, Jacobs as holding mid with Lyon, Oksanen & and Russell in midfield. In front of them I suppose we'll have Oliver with Muirhead but I'd maybe stick with Reilly for the first half at least as surely he must do something soon. Goes without saying that if Gozie is fit he must start. 0-0 would not surprise me but our pent up glut of unscored goals must burst soon. Please let it be this Saturday.
  13. Jack Hamilton dealt with everything thrown at him - he has been an excellent signing and so far no sign of any glaring errors. Reece Lyon did well in midfield when the ball wasn't flying over his head. Mark Russell gives us some creativity. Up from we really need the physical presence of big Gozie but he always seems to be injured - much like last season at Raith. Our other strikers aren't doing much - Reilly has done nothing much yet. Not sure about Knowles yet. At least the fairly dreadful Muirhead didn't get any game time. our goal for column tells the story. We have lost 5 out of 11 games; Queens have lost 7 but they sit above us because we are drawing games where a win might be possible. We really need to start winning games and that requires us to score a goal.
  14. Can buy tickets at the ground (from the ticket office at the top of Sinclair St.)
  15. It defies credulity that Blues seems to be virtually undroppable. He's not the worst player we've ever had and he has popped up with the odd goal now and again, but there's just something ineffective about him, the game often passing him by. I know he's still young, but he's not really good enough at this level. If Lyon could get back to his best, Blues should not be keeping him on the bench. Even on Saturday when we were particularly poor, Lyon at least showed some interest in getting the ball and driving forwards. Tom Allen looks a bit of a shitebag, unwilling to go in where it hurts. However the worst aspect of our game is the inability to string three or four passes together and the long balls to nobody. If Ugwu was fit, there might be some excuse but neither Reilly nor Muirhead can play the lone striker role with any conviction. Reilly in particular has been very disappointing so far and I can only hope he can get match fit soon. We are physically feeble up front and none too strong in midfield. We need signings in January or we won't have a chance of reaching 8th. Gus Mcpherson has made a complete mess of building a team, but even what we do have is wasted because he's clueless about who to select and how to set them up. Maybe he could be punted to a director of football role to let someone who knows what they are doing deal with the team. Queens looked every bit as bad, apart from Willie Gibson, who is a standout every time I see him play, despite him having a bus pass.
  16. Can't really disagree with that as probably our best lineup, but I suspect Lyon will be on the bench and Blues on from the start.
  17. That would be another option but I suspect it won't happen. However we have Brian Mclean to return and when he does I suspect Ledger will be used at RB. He was decent there last season. If we have an injury at CB, Ledger can slot in there although it means Hynes at RB and the jury's still out on him.
  18. Reece Lyon was extremely disappointing. After being kept on the bench for months, you'd think he would be fired up, but he was pretty anonymous. I expect that means we'll have Cameron Blues starting next week. We do need another creative midfielder anyway. And Brian Mclean back to let Ledger move to TB where Hynes isn't good enough. We are dreadfully weak in terms of quality and depth, with numerous youth players involved when they aren't ready for football at this level.
  19. When Morton played Killie at Rugby park in the league cup, Killie didn't look anything special. We were seconds away from a win when they scrambled a late equaliser. They certainly didn't look unbeatable. Going to Cappielow for this one. First time since March 7th last year.
  20. Never heard of Ugwu but he sounds like the sort of physical forward player we have lacked for a long time.
  21. Will your fans be wearing the Klu Klux Klan outfits for this game? Might save you having to wear masks...
  22. We're not down yet. Win on Friday and we definitely stay up. Even a draw might mean we stay up. Even if we end up in the play offs, we are capable of winning them. The persistent problem with Morton this season has been team selection - we all pretty much know the best eleven players to make up our starting line-up, but the various managers we have had persist with leaving at least 2 of our best options on the bench or even out the squad. Get Lyon and Colville on in midfield, Jacobs to be the ball winner and probably McGinn to make up the midfield 4, Nesbitt and Oliver up front. Ledger, Fjortoft , Mclean and Strapp as the back 4. No McGinty. Muirhead a desperation option if they want a bit more muscle up front. The front 2 are not really that good, but probably the best we have, with an option of using McGuffie as a sub as at least he can shoot and get the ball on target. Our squad is unbalanced but at least we can make the best of what we have.
