If Hibs beat Motherwell and make the top 6 then they’ll only have three diddyship fixtures left they need a Dundee win as well  to give them 15 points to play for

That's all covered in the last line of my post where I say they need to avoid defeat and for Dundee to at least match their tally before the split.

If they beat Motherwell, they need Dundee to win one of their next two. If they draw, they need Dundee to pick up at least a point in their next two.

  2. Hearts can clinch their second Diddyship in three years with a win over Livingston this weekend.

St Mirren's defeat on Saturday means they're officially out of the running. They trail by 10 points with only 9 available.

Kilmarnock are hanging on by the skin of their teeth. They need to win all four of their remaining games and hope Hearts lose all four of theirs.

Dundee will rule themselves out if they defeat Rangers tomorrow night or Aberdeen on Saturday. Their hopes will also be ended if they draw either of these games and Hibs fail to beat Motherwell.

Hibs also just about remain in the hunt. They will be ruled out if 1) they lose to Motherwell this weekend, or 2) Dundee fail to at least match their points total over the next week.

Are you sure about that? What you’re saying is you’ve had a 20/18 split in the past? Surely that’s not right? I know sometimes after the split you have to go somewhere for the 3rd time to even things up, but I didn’t think you could play 2 more away games than home games or vice versa. That’s grossly unfair.

The 19/19 split is predicated on the right combination of teams ending up in each half (i.e. 3 teams who have played 16H/17A and 3 teams who have played 17H/16A prior to the split). If that doesn't happen, it's an unavoidable reality that at least one team will lose a home game and another team will gain one.

It's happened quite a few times as summarised in this @craigkilliepost:

    Celtic (19/19)

    Home: Rangers, Hearts, Motherwell

    Away: Kilmarnock, St Mirren

    Rangers (19/19)

    Home: Kilmarnock, St Mirren

    Away: Celtic, Hearts, Motherwell

    Hearts (19/19)

    Home: Rangers, St Mirren

    Away: Celtic, Kilmarnock, Motherwell

    Kilmarnock (20/18)

    Home: Celtic, Hearts, Motherwell

    Away: Rangers, St Mirren

    St Mirren (19/19)

    Home: Celtic, Kilmarnock, Motherwell

    Away: Rangers, Hearts

    Motherwell (19/19)

    Home: Rangers, Hearts

    Away: Celtic, St Mirren, Kilmarnock

Could the extra home game not just as easily be given to Motherwell or Hearts in this scenario?

We will likely have the least to play for and had a deficit of home games a few years ago so I'd have thought we'd be the logical choice.

Yeah. How the referee doesn't give us a penalty, I've no idea. Knicks Connor's leg into his other one. I'd suggest anyone saying it wasn't a penalty should remove the maroon glasses

I've just watched it again, at 0.25x speed, and there is absolutely no "kick" of any kind. It would have been a worse award than the one we got against Hibs a few weeks ago.

A lightweight midfield and zero people to hold the ball up top in fairly windy conditions.

It's a bold strategy but I'm feeling rather bittersweet for taking St. Mirren @ 7/4s

Finding it impossible to imagine that lineup not getting utterly bullied. I had a similar vibe before the 3-0 at Pittodrie last year.

I think draw is the absolute best we can hope for now but I've chucked a few quid on St Mirren -1.

  7. I was at the other end of the ground from Brown's miss and didn't really notice it at the time. The main thing that stuck out from his performance was how easily he was nudged off the ball when he tried to play with his back to goal, which isn't an ideal quality if the key requirement from our striker is to bring the wing-backs and attacking midfielders into play.

Judging by where he plays for his club, maybe he's more suited to playing off the main striker or as a wide forward, but that's not necessarily a role that we're likely to see much.

  8. There's been a lot of clamour for Shankland so there was inevitably going to be a lot of clamour backlash after missing a chance he should've scored, but I thought he otherwise led the line pretty well and I was pleased he didn't look physically or technically out of place. Hopefully he gets another chance or two in the friendlies coming up.

Other than that, Gilmour being excellent and Souttar being astonishingly bad were the things that stood out to me.

Only an opinion guys,so we keep Oda and Devlin and punt who else?

Fraser, Lembikisa and Haring are near-certs to leave. Grant, Sibbick and Tagawa are likely to get the "free to find another club" treatment. Baningime looks unlikely to renew and Cochrane and Shankland are likely to be sold.

That's 9 players out which would give us scope to bring in another 6 without increasing the size of the squad, something like: CB, RB, CM, winger, striker x2.

    Couldn't agree more.

Devlin wouldn't be on the out list either, he's exceptional at what he's good at, stop expecting him to be a ball playing midfielder and he's more than good enough. Especially so if he's seen as a squad option.

Yep, Devlin is a good squad player at the very least. Halkett won't be leaving either given he's just re-signed and is injured.

Pretty happy with the pre-contract additions so far. I think we're more than covered for bodies across the majority of the squad now so the aim should now be to add a bit of extra quality through the spine of the team and to replace Cochrane, Baningime and Shankland (!) if they leave. Hopefully we'll have the best part of £10m to spend.

Looking like we mean business, great 3 early signing that haven’t cost us a penny. We need more quality and need to clear the at least 10 who aren’t good enough.Who we letting go?

I don’t think Denholm will make it - Tait is far better.

Cochrane has obviously been looked at - he’s off for £2m +

Stiffs like Halliday,Harring (much respect, been a great servant),Tagawa,Oda,Devlin, Sibbick,Halkett(never fit)Grant..Fraser on loan can go,I’d keep Lembikisa but can’t afford to sign him.

10 out gives us room to bring in better.

Oda isn't anywhere near the exit door for me. Since he scored his first goal he's played the equivalent of 9.6 full games in the league and scored 5 times. Great finish on Saturday and changed the game against Motherwell in his previous appearance. Still only 22.
