Unlikely I know, but a small switch from 4-2-3-1  to 4-4-2  and play Amartey up front, with NO defensive midfield duties.

Alongside McKenzie with Bryden / Willoughby off the bench.      A degree of nuisance value / awkwardness and frightening pace in attack.

If players are fit etc, I see the team as follows:

    Clarke

    McAllister  Stanger  McGinty  Reading

    Chalmers  Syla  Dempsey  Murphy

    Willoughby  McKenzie

Subs: Albinson, Musonda, Sanders, McHugh, Smith, McGeady, Tomlinson, Amartey, Guthrie

That's our strongest defence unfortunately.  I'll be very worried if we need to start Sanders, seems a complete liability.

I normally park on McCalls avenue or West Sanquhar road but for away fans wanting to get on to the 77, the skate park is probably better

If you get there at a decent time, the car park at the old Ianottis is ideal, straight out to the roundabout between the old Police station and Tams brig and miss all the traffic.

We don't seem to be in a rush to bring in a RB so not sure how much that extends to a goalie if he is out long term

Players there that can patch up that position for now (Tomlinson, Stanger, Musonda), but a keeper is different, can’t just have no sub keeper and 3rd and 4th choice are out on loan.

Interview - is everyone fit and available?

Scott Brown - everyone is fit and available*pause*Murph and Nick are both out.

That was the extent of the team news

I wonder if the Mutch injury isn't as bad as first feared then since he's not mentioned it and no back up signing has come in.

  5. With Murphy being out, I wonder if we might see Willoughby start on the left, think he's played there down south.  Not sure if Amartey is in Browns thoughts to start, Tomlinson, I would imagine, wont be a right back and looked good in the forward areas on Saturday so could be a shout, but we need someone who will not leave Reading exposed as Murphy has helped him a lot this season.  ABM (Anyone but McGeady).

After all of the talk, I might actually now get the train to this.

Only £18.90 for a return for me and the wee man from Dunblane with the friends & family railcard (btw if you travel with kids it's definitely worth getting one).  It also means I can watch the Calcutta Cup on my phone instead of listening to it on the radio in the car (yes, I also like eggball).  If I'm not too worried about pre-match beers, I assume it's better to get off at Newton-on-Ayr.

Aye you’ll need to get off at prestwick then on a shuttle train to Ayr because of the station being limited. Think it should stop at Newton on Ayr, can get a pint in the hub next to the ground.

Wonder if the club looked at moving the Thistle game to the free Saturday on the 9th. Probably would have had a bigger crowd at it.

Probably would have been too late in the day for that I would imagine.

Also think it’s an original date so probably no chance.

  8. Raith (H/A) 1 point

    Partick (H/A) 1 point

    Dunfermline (H/A) 4 points

    ICT (A) 1 point

    QP (H) 1 point

    Airdrie (H) 3 points

    Arbroath (H) 3 points

    Dundee Utd (A) 0 points

    Morton (H) 1 point

That's my glass half empty, but realistic points from our remaining 1 games.  Like I said before, key games are the 4 home matches v Airdrie, Dunfermline, QP and Arboath.  Win they 3 out the 4 and possibly a draw, then we should be there or thereabouts re being safe.

ETA - missed the QP game

For the league mathematicians on here, how many points do we think we'll need just to be safe in 8th? I would absolutely love to finish higher (not just for the feeling but the higher place finish £) but with such a rebuild required, I don't think I'd want that 4th play off spot. It's put us back in previous years and I'd really like to hit the ground running for next season, giving Broon, Whitty and whatever recruitment team we have, the best chance to build a strong squad.

I reckon we need another 10/11 points to secure safety in 8th, would leave the likes of ICT and Dunfermline needing 15 or so points.  Dunfermline away and home if we can get 4 points I reckon keeps us out their reach, we also have Airdrie and Arbroath at home which we need to get 6 points.  Beat the teams (or not lose) that are around us and pick up points against the likes of Thistle and Raith at home I reckon we'll be fine.  I really hope come Thistle away in the run in of the last 3 we are safe and Brown and the recruitment team can get down to planning for next season.  The reverse fixtures that we have left we've got 12 points from, that would see us safe IMO.
