  1. Watched the TOS episode Balance Of Terror after watching this week's SNW. Very smart the way they replayed the episode while giving us Pikes perspective on how he approaches conflict compared to Kirk. Worth checking out the TOS episode on Netflix. Much of the scenes and dialogue are the same.
  2. Father's Day present . A wee nostalgia trip back to the first watch I got.
  3. Went to a diner on a visit to Edinburgh last week , was okay not great. When I asked if I could put a tip on a debit card , the server told me it had already been added to the bill , when I looked it said on receipt gratuity not service charge. First time this has happened to me and thought it odd that they put it straight on without checking , I usually leave a decent tip but I'd like to decide how much etc.
  4. Read the Kenobi novel last year , wonder if that will be the source for any possible new seasons ?

    The Boys

Watched a few of the The Boys : Diabolical cartoons on Prime , a bit hit and miss but brilliant to see comic Butcher , Hughie and Terror as a cartoon.
  6. Starship Troopers by Robert A Heinlein. Very different from the movie. Gone is the annoying high school characters and more of a Full Metal Jacket vibe. It follows the journey of Juan "Johnny" Rico from recruit training to war and promotions to N.C.O to officer. Can't make up my mind if the book is a anti-war novel or straight up piece of American conservative writing. According to Wikipedia he started out as a liberal but became progressively more conservative and founded a society that was in favour of more above ground nuclear testing.
  7. Forgot to add this when I got it , quartz version of the Bulova Hack. Strap is same kind of NATO type that's on the lunar pilot but in really soft leather , really comfortable.
  8. New Seiko chrono , got it from h.samuel recent sale for £135. Liked the black with orange accents.
  9. When you consider the actual timescale of the album's being just over six years from 1963 to 1969 , the sheer scale and variety on them is amazing. The road towards Sgt Peppers gives you two of possibly their best albums ( imo ) , Rubber Soul and Revolver.
  10. 1. And your bird can sing 2. Let it be ( prefer the naked version ) 3. Twist & Shout 4. I saw her standing there 5. Tomorrow never knows
  11. Nobody. 8/10 Bob Odenkirk as a beaten down family man whose home is burgled. He interrupts the robbery and seems to lose his bottle when he has the chance to take one of the robbers out , to the disgust of his son. He finally snaps and goes on a revenge rampage that calls on his previous life skills. Hugely enjoyed the action scenes and there's a decent bit of humour thrown in. Christopher Lloyd as his dad is great.
  12. Given that Pike was one of the better characters in Discovery , you'd have a bit of hope for this series. Hopefully no dramatic whispering in this one.
  13. It's against British law for a British citizen to fight in a war against a country we are " at peace " with , we aren't at war with Russia ( yet ) which makes it illegal.* Think it's The Enlistment act of 1870/80 , hasn't been repealed.
  14. You're mixing up whataboutery with fact. Both groups left Britain to take part in a war in other countries , should we just use the law and punishments against those groups we don't like?
  15. We really are a bunch of two faced c*nts , which was the point I'm trying to make. To some British people , the Iraq war was illegal and felt it was anti-muslim , so they went to fight against that. The guys in the article say they couldn't sit back and watch parts of Europe being illegally invaded , both are doing an illegal act , but , the ex-servicemen who head to Ukraine will receive a different response for the same act.
  16. Are they in Ukraine? Or do you mean deployed to a NATO territory , like Poland ?
  17. So , both left to fight what people perceive as illegal invasions , what's the difference?
  18. Enlighten me as to where the British army is based in Ukraine?
  19. The British sell weapons all over the world to basically anyone , are we fighting in Yemen etc?
  20. Poor equivalence. The government of the time forbade British citizens from fighting in Spain. Will there be the same treatment as was handed to the Isis fighters who left from Britain and were refused help and made stateless for fighting for a foreign army/state? Think that's a fair question.
  21. No , I'm comparing British people leaving the country to go and fight in a war that the British aren't fighting in.
  22. I assume they will be treated the same way as the British people who went to fight for ISIS were treated.
