  1. Here's the YouTube video of the game. https://movingimage.nls.uk/film/0577?search_term=saltcoats&search_join_type=AND&search_fuzzy=yes
  2. Too right mate, 8 wins and 3 draws out of 13 away games. Promotion form if we'd done the business at Brig O'Lea!
  3. This is in agreement with Mark Donnelly's excellent "Scottish Junior Histories" book, a collection of articles written in 1932/33. Mr McPhee got the name 'Vale of Clyde' from the side of a Govan tramcar. Don't know where Vale Of Clyde are getting their 1873 from?
  4. Thank you, absolutely tragic and happening far too often.
  5. We are officially Neilston Juniors FC and that is the name that appears in our constitution. Funnily enough in our first incarnation in 1898 , there was already Neilston FC who were a senior side and members of the SFA until 1902. So the newly formed junior side back in 1898 called themselves Neilston Victoria FC rather than Neilston Juniors FC which you might've expected to differentiate between the senior and junior side. The Vics went into abeyance in 1939 and then as war was ending, the club was reformed as Neilston Juniors FC in 1945.
  6. Yoker v Neilston should be ok next week since the four teams that will need a revised fixture can all play each other several ways.
  7. Great you were up here today for that 5th one mate!
  8. From another forum. Kilmarnock Juniors were formed in 1938 and disbanded in July 1956. They joined the Western League at the start of the 1939-40 season. Although the senior side suspended operations through the war, the Juniors, due to a lack of ground of their own, failed to capitalize on it. They used a number of grounds during their short existence: Howard Park 1943-46 Greyhound Stadium 1946-52 [some games were played in Hurlford during 1947-48] Strandhead Park, Stewarton 1952-53 Kirkstyle 1953-56 The Howard Park used to be called Barbadoes Green and was where the fledgling Kilmarnock FC played in 1868/69. Kirkstyle was for many years the home of Kilmarnock Cricket Club. The closest Kilmarnock Juniors came to winning any silverware was in reaching the final of the Ayrshire Junior Cup in season 1941/42(lost to Ardeer Recreation 6-2 over two legs) and again in season 1944/45(lost again to Ardeer Recreation 4-0 after a 1-1 draw). They also lost in the final of the Western League Cup in season 1944/45(1-2 to Hurlford United) and finished as runners-up to Ardeer Recreation in the 1943/44 Western League. Kilmarnock Juniors struggled on and off for many years, folding and reforming before finally going under in 1956. At one game just one spectator paid for admission. Killie's return to the top flight in 1954 was what really finished them off though another Kilmarnock junior club Riccarton Bluebell went under in 1953 when Killie were still in the B Division. They never won anything of note. First team to play at Brig O'Lea in a competitive match against Neilston Juniors, losing 9-0.
  9. From Mark Donnelly's excellent 'Scottish Junior Histories 1932-33' book.
  10. Here's the same view from Google Maps street view.
  11. Is this photo any help in identifying grounds? I was given it and told it was Neilston Victoria (Neilston's junior side up until 1939). You'll see on the back it's a Scottish Cup 4th round replay at Denny. I've always guessed it looks like it was maybe taken during the first world war. The clothes fit that period, the strips and ball look in poor condition which is what you'd expect during wartime and some of the players look that wee bit older. All I have managed to find out was that in 1916/17 Denny Hibs did indeed beat Neilston Victoria 4-0 in a Scottish Cup 4th round tie but whether it was a replay, I've not confirmed. Hope it helps anyway if you can recognise the location.
  12. Bailieston's Station Park and how it is today from almost the same spot.
  13. Aye no bother. If anyone wants a team line up scan from the same magazines of the seventies I've got the following. Darvel Arbroath Vics Ardrossan Winton Rovers Whitletts Dundee Osborne Kello Rovers Glenafton Maybole Annbank Utd Largs Th Glenrothes Irvine Vics Kilwinning Rangers Larkhall Th and a couple of action shots from the Glenrothes v Glencairn Junior Cup Final 1975.
  14. Don't know if he's got this one - if not then here it is..
  15. This was the Evening Times coverage of the replay if you don't have it already. From the same 1964 paper..
  16. Neilston in January 1965 before a Scottish Junior Cup 3rd round tie against Dunbar United. Back row, second from left is Tommy McMillan who later that year moved to Pittodrie and spent the next 8 years with Aberdeen, winning the Scottish Cup in 1970. Front row centre with the ball is 18 years old Dixie Deans who was soon to move to Motherwell before playing with Celtic and Scotland in the 1970's.
  17. A wee bit more nostalgia for you here Rank - the corner of Keppoch Park just creeps in near the top left. http://img.photobuck...iehallion/p.jpg
  18. It was a dog racing track in it's former days Bill. Right next to the White City Stadium as well! Here's how it looked before they brought the ends in to build the multi's. In this photo you can see what Osama was saying about Moore Park being two pitches side by side running north-south.
  19. If it had nothing to do with the Bens or the Ants I'm wondering if it might've been connected with the adjoining bus depot because I can't make out a dividing wall between the two. Here it is with the White City to the left, Tinto Park above, Moore Park to the right and the Albion training ground below and with Ibrox just out of picture, it's some amount of stadiums in the one wee area! http://img.photobuck...llion/govan.jpg
  20. Osama - do you know what the ground was on Helen Street midway between Moore Park and the White City. It was on Helen Street directly across from what is now the entrance into Asda?
  21. Spot on drs - the motorway did cut right through the pitches. McKenna Park is over the top right 3 pitches nearest to Shieldhall Rd and Fulbar Road.
