It depends what you're looking for I suppose. If it's a "local derby", it has to be Neilston for Arthurlie. Pollok's ground is much closer to Rutherglen than it is to Barrhead. Newlandsfield is also closer to both New Tinto and McKenna Park than it is to Dunterlie. This Pollok Arthurlie derby thing is a relatively new thing.

George Fraser made it clear at the meeting in East Kilbride on the 12th March that the LL/EoSFL/SoSFL had absolutely no issue with WoSFL members holding dual memberships with other associations. If there was a barrier to that then that 's for other associations to deal with.

Used to be like that. The Scottish Junior Cup used to be regional in the earlier rounds. I think maybe the first three rounds were regional. The clubs must've voted to change it. I know we didn't get a non-West team in the earlier rounds until we got Tranent in the first round in 1964.

Fines are due, at the most, monthly. That includes point accumulation fines, straight red fines and cautions in cup games.

Depends on the mix of distance and attendance. If we drew say Lochgelly Albert in the cup, being 66 miles away we'd get a guarantee of £120. So Lochgelly can only make any money after taking in £120 (for us) and £50 (for the ref). So if the gate was £200 in total, Lochgelly make £30. If the gate was £160, Lochgelly lose a tenner.

There is a minimum guarantee you pay the visiting team based on a mileage scale. They get the guarantee if their share of the split gate (after ref costs) is less than the guarantee. One or the other.

And that, I'd imagine, would be the case for the majority of West Region clubs.

The park is playable right now with a 50% chance of showers forecast by kick off time. That can't be grounds for a postponement just now.

Plainly it does or clubs would vote for it. The clubs are the West Region and if the majority of clubs want 2pm then that's the correct ko time.

With 9 wins and a draw in our last 10 away games, we don't fear going on the road but we'll need to be right up for the fight just like the way we were away to Lochee United.

It wasn't one man's private life. The issue was debated at an West Region AGM a few years ago and was voted down by the clubs. One of the main reasons against was that players and committee who are there every week, home and away, like to get home at a decent hour to enjoy their Saturday evening elsewhere, particularly on an away day. If crowds surged on non-league days I'm sure that might've swayed some, but they don't so it didn't. That's democracy. The same individual was dead set against the 16 team leagues of the all West Region league reconstruction. Democracy won there too.

The club is deeply saddened to hear that honorary life member Hugh Blair passed away peacefully last night. Hugh had been on our committee for 65 years. His knowledge of Neilston Juniors was second to none and will be missed. Our sincerest condolences to Hugh's family and friends.

It is pretty much the same squad as the one that day back in July in the Hugh Blair Trophy match. Thirteen of the fifteen registered players appearing that day are still here. Some on the Talbot committee were very complimentary about us that day. Unfortunately there is no play off but we will keep on keeping on! Still in the West of Scotland Cup, a trophy we traditionally struggle to progress in and we're about to play our 7th Junior Cup game next month thanks to no 1st round bye and two replays! Busy wee season.

A Paul Stewart goal gives the Farmer’s Boys a 1-0 win at Renfrew and it is now 9 wins and a draw in the last 10 aways in all competitions for Neilston.

IIRC the tracks still ran to just about the back end of Brig O'Lea into the early 1980s. I'm sure the trains used to run up there to switch tracks for the return trip to Glasgow. I'll get my anorak. Spot on Peasy23, the trains did used to come up to right behind the top goal before being switched onto the up track to return to Glasgow. I think the points were maybe moved down a bit after Neilston signal box closed and the traffic was signalled from the Cathcart Power Box.

We had a game called off quite late in the season when a freak hailstone storm hit half the village. Neilston was clear from when you first enter all the way to beyond the shops in the Main Street. Then there was a white division where the far half of the village was a complete whiteout. I tweeted the game was off and folk from the other end of Neilston were messaging me with disbelief. I suppose the weather has to stop somewhere! Then there was the time in the final day of the season, we were at the Show Park, East Kilbride where torrential rain meant a fairly late postponement. After getting the appropriate permission, both teams, fans and the ref all jumped in cars etc and we all headed over to Brig O'Lea and got the game on at very, very short notice.

The SJFA rules say there will only be linesmen from the 4th round onwards unless either the secretary requests them or both clubs agree to request them.
