  1. Lots of info on this page. https://energysavingtrust.org.uk/advice/thermostats-and-heating-controls/ I don't think there is a simple straight answer
  2. Rightly or wrongly, I've always interpreted "market value" as how much I would have been able to sell my car for, not how much it would be to replace it with a similar car. Semantics I know, but probably important given differences in selling and retail values. Maybe I've been too pessimistic in what insurance will pay.
  3. Agreed. For as long as I remember my insurance will only pay full replacement value for a car less than a year old.
  4. Even worse is when fully grown adult men also wear the shorts and socks to complete the whole strip look.
  5. I won a couple of £1's one month. Apart from that, nothing.
  6. But I thought that since inflation has been cut everything was almost back to 'normal'
  7. The Heinz Beans advert with the guy on holiday.
  8. When will politicians learn that it’s just better to admit right from the off that they made a mistake, apologise, and then make amends by paying the bill. It’s not like there is any precedent of politicians digging a major hole after a fairly minor, in the scheme of things, balls up. As has been said, it’s rarely the actual act that brings a politician down, but the way they deal with it afterwards.
  9. I was thinking that after I posted, but like you said it was so short it probably doesn't matter.
  10. But the Truss and Johnson govts, of which he was a major part, will be nothing to do with him and the current govt.
  11. Surely the uneven roads will be no problem for the Range Rovers many of them no doubt drive?
  12. No doubt in their driveway they will put the kids into the car on the driver's side as that's the side that they themselves are going to get in. So come parking at the side of the road the kids are then at the road side. No forward thought about what's best, all about what's easiest.
  13. That's the thing that gets me apart from the entitlement that he showed in in thinking we should pay for his behaviour. Why is it even possible for a mobile phone company to allow anyone to rack up an £11000 bill in a week. Where are the affordability checks? If you go for credit anywhere else they will check you can afford to pay back the credit. Mobile phone companies seem to be able to bypass these checks and just let you incur massive debt. I know there are nominal limits on roaming bills, but they are so easy to opt out of they are almost meaningless in practice.
  14. I read an article many years ago, so not sure if it will still be valid, that said when living in a city centre it costs less to use taxis, public transport, and the occasional hire of a car, than it does to own a car given insurance costs, road tax, parking charges, depreciation, etc.
  15. Ah the problems you get when you have a city full of tenement blocks that house 8 or so families, who all want to have 2 cars and park them outside their block where there is space for maybe 3 cars at the most. People who live in a city environment need to lose their sense of entitlement when it comes to cars.
  16. Amazon Alexa accounts. We use Google devices and all the devices, phones, tablets, speakers etc use the one centralised contacts list, so change a contact on one device and it is changed on them all. Compare that to the clusterf**k that is Alexa. My wife’s elderly aunt uses Alexa to chat to my mother-in-law. Recently I had to change my mother-in-law’s Alexa account, so the aunt’s contact list needed updated. She has an Echo device, as well as a tablet and phone with Alexa on them. The tablet and phone are now so old that the Alexa app no longer works on them, so I went to delete the old contact details for my mother-in-law on the Echo, but it wouldn’t allow that. I installed the Alexa app on my phone and logged in to her account, but it only allows you to delete/modify contacts on the device that the contact was originally added, which is the tablet and phone that no longer work. So, from what I can see there is no easy way to delete old contacts as the contact list seems to be a collection of individual device contact lists, rather than one big master list. She now has 3 or 4 different entries for my mother-in-law in her contact list with only one of them correct, and no way of changing or deleting the incorrect ones. I hate Amazon Alexa.
  17. When the Clydesdale Bank sponsored the SPL I entered the free correct score prediction competition and won it with, as I remember, 4 or 5 correct scores and the rest the correct result. I won a small personal DAB radio and a SPL anorak/coat.
  18. Looking at the lawyers, if they have always been aware of the full facts, but issued statements saying the facts as reported were not true etc, etc, etc, does that mean they were lying? I know lawyers have a duty to the client they are representing, but does that extend to lying on their behalf? Or is it a simple case that Mone and her husband didn’t disclose all the facts to the lawyers, or simply lied to them.
  19. One of the worst pieces of legislation that the Tories have enacted in the last 40 odd years, and supported by Labour to a lesser extent, is Right to Buy. This has completely destroyed social housing in the UK and is the reason why we now have a housing crisis.
  20. I'm wondering if it would be worth getting smart TRVs for the radiators to allow me to better regulate the temperature in each room. Does anyone have experience of them and if so are they worth the cost?
  21. It increases plastic use as you use a knife to cut open the pack then put the unused portion in a plastic bag to keep it fresh in the fridge, rather than just resealing the he pack
  22. Spookily I just found a bottle of that as well and cracked it open. It is quite pleasant.
  23. If I'm on an unfamiliar road with lots of bends, then I'll probably be driving slower than locals and those familiar with the road. So if there's someone obviously itching to get past I'll keep my speed down when we get to a straight so they can overtake. It really pisses me off then when they don't take the opportunity to overtake and stay behind and continue to tailgate me.
