That horse has done me a good turn a couple of times this year. On it again today.Another wide open contest tomorrow and would be here all day making cases. Quite simple I have a side bet on the Appleby/Buick horse so for the Sky Bet selection I am on THE GLASGOW WARRIOR. Met trouble in its last 2 races finishing 2nd and 3rd. I simply think its a much better horse than its rating suggests. Quick and easy tonight.
1st. Glasgow Warrior
2nd. First Nation
3rd. Melting Dew0 -

Lumped it all on "no". If it comes in, I'll be a bit more reserved for the next one.....

I've backed this horse the last two times it has won.theglasgowwarrior, @7/1. Won 4 since December. That's about it, and seems to like firm ground.Goldie is a shyster, the amount of times you see him heading down to the winners enclosure with a smug grin in his face as a 10/1 shot wins is unreal.
He's got four at musselburgh tomorrow, so I'll probably perm 3/4. It's when he takes only 1 or 2 down south that my attention gets grabbed....

Anybody tried the free go at this?

I've managed to get to Q7 with 638k intact.
I'm not naive enough to think I'll win a fortune on it, but as it is, I'm on to just under £40 if I split the rest of the answers 50/50.
Only thing is, I'm stumped for tomorrows first question.
Will Hungary v Australia be a draw at half time? Two shit teams, so could be a goal fest or a shit fest. Who knows?

Nope. First one was Thursday night, second one this morning.
Wasn't as clean cut as I thought tbh.
Also had £20 on Clyde to score 5+ @ 15/20 -

Can anyone recommend any whisky valuation sites?
I always use scotch whisky auctions as a guide. They've got a cracking archive.1 -
Wired through half a bottle of this over the weekend. TBH I'm not sure i could pick it out against the standard 16 yo maybe a little smoother
If I was given a limit of £100 to spend on my last bottle of whisky, that would be one of the ones I would be considering.1 -
Opened the Jura last night. Very oakey. Will be ok for an Old-Fashioned I suppose.

I'll be going to Asda tonight then and buying several of them because that is a ridiculous price.
Origin is probably my favourite whisky, so sad and a bit apprehensive about the rebranding, but I trust Jura enough that I'm sure there'll be something to my taste in the new range.
I got the last 2 in my local store (well, the missus did...well trained!). Seemingly the staff had snaffled 5 bottles just beforehand.
To give a bit of a guideline, last year when the hibiki 12 was discontinued Tesco were selling them off for £25 a bottle and unmanaged to get 4 - 1 to drink, 1 to keep and 2 to give away.
They are now going for around £100 on Scotch Whisky Auctions...0 -
Jura are rebranding their range and discontinuing their current ones.

Asda have discounted the diurachs own to £18.50 a bottle. I believe it's nationwide.0 -
Slightly off topic but on the issue of whisky cocktails I've noticed a trend recently for specific whiskies being specified. I quite enjoy cocktails but pretty much exclusively use whichever standard blend I've got in the house (whatever is on offer at the local supermarket, currently Whyte and Mackay) as I've figured I don't want to waste good whisky on a drink I'm adding other flavours to. Is it worth using nicer whisky for these cocktails though, or is it basically a waste?
For me, it depends on the cocktail.
I use a malt for a couple of cocktails. In fact I'm messing about with trying to re-create one I have sometimes...but I should really just go back to the place that makes the cocktail and be a bit more observant.0 -
I'm a big fan of various Ancnocs.
The Peter Arkle Editions were not bad, but one stood out. Its been sitting in the house for over a year and I only just opened it at Xmas. Have to keep it out the way or it would get finished.0 -
On the subject of Aldi, I bought this last year and soon wished I bought a couple...

Aye it was decent. These nights are just a bit busy though so you don't really get much time to talk to the distillery reps about the different expressions.
I've tried all the core Glenfarclas stuff up to and including 25 so I saved myself for new tastes.
The best table I went to was the Compass Box one. They're premium blends and I've heard people raving about them before, also unlike most blenders they're quite up front about what's in most of them. Tried the Spice Tree, Phenomenology and No Name. The latter is mostly well aged Ardbeg and if you like your Islays it's a cracking drop. For only £100 a bottle too.. the phenomenology is £150! Eye watering but I genuinely would consider getting them for special occasions.
Looking back at my photos from Saturday I managed quite a few stalls but not the compass box one. The adelphi stall had a fair few good ones, and was surprised at their private blend. Not sure if this was due to my consumption by that time, but I've ended up with a couple of bottles, one of which I'll probably give to my mate. Depends what happens when I open the one at the weekend.0 -
PS any of you boys going to the Glasgow Festival at Hampden next month?
I went to the 2nd session. Was a good night, but maybe not one I will repeat in a while...took me till I went out on Sunday night to get rid of the taste of whisky.
Probably the best for me was getting a taste of the Glenflarcas 25. It's basically the 15yr x100 (or plus 10, depending on how you look at it). Will be looking about for a decent price on it.0 -
Was in aldi yesterday, I have always been curious about thier glen marnoch range, anyone tried it is it a good drop for the price
They have Sherry cask stuff was going to give a shot
They do a 28 year old for under £50 near Christmas that is well worth a punt.0 -
Got a bottle of Uigeadail today which I've been meaning to get for a while. Was on special at the Whisky Exchange this week. Plus these wee samples of stuff I've wanted to try for a while. The Kilchoman is really nice if you like your Islays, nice and light and fresh. I'll look for a full bottle of that next month.
I've actually had blood oak before but it was just a wee taster at Glasgow airport years ago. You can't really find them about nowadays.
Think the blood oak is an airport exclusive nowadays.0 -

Superb. Bet City were making you sweat!
I put £140 on under 1.5 just before kick off. So only £894 up.

Let's be absolutely clear. The only time that guy should have been "going home" was on the 2nd January 2011. On his own.
See you in another 5 years.
