  1. You're all in such a rush! I read on another website that Murrays' career trajectory is frighteningly similar to Federers. The climb through the rankings in relation to their ages is almost identical and Fed won his first Slam on his 17th (i think) attempt - the US Open will be Murray's 15th attempt. If Andy wins Cincy AND US Open he'll become world #1 at a younger age than Federer managed to do so! It's a huge ask and i'm not saying Murray will be able to dominate like Fed but you never know.
  2. Frightened Rabbit at Queens Hall tonight
  3. Congrats Muzzah!! Not a great tie-break but you got guts man.
  4. Think Petchey was talking more about the ball being hit harder within the rallies rather than service. You just need to look at Soderling/Gonzo/Verdasco and the like to realise players hit it hard & deep (oo-er matron!) much more now. Even Sampras never had that weapon. Obviously racquet technology advancements has helped this no end, too.
  5. I'd have awarded you a if the gist of it wasn't so close to the damn truth.
  6. Errrr, if Jeremy Clarkson didn't want to do it anymore? Whatever your opinions of the guy, it just would not be worth watching if he wasn't in it and would die a slow death with another frontman.
  7. Could be the last ever episode They never said they'd be back like they usually do, Jezza was somberley noting the demise of driving in this country; and more pointedly, the music that was playing in the beautiful Aston film clip was "An Ending" by Brian Eno. Clues re no more Top Gear? A radically changed programme returning with new presenters? Or just a cool way to finish the series? You decide
  8. Surely this would all have been taken care of when Utd signed him and as such, the paperwork for loaning him out would be a formality Or is it more red tape between 2 seperate football governing bodies that you're talking about? Anyway, is this guy really the one McGlynn's got his eye on? Or is this just wild speculation from us once again?
  9. That's last weeks Press link though! We should be getting news Monday at the latest (only speculation on my part, mind).
  10. The midfield would be able to keep pace if Tade was played there, his correct position. I'm convinced of that! He bursts forward when played up front? No-one is with him. He bursts forward from midfield? Players are in front of him. You see him playing up front when opposition defence are covering and he doesn't have a sense of positioning. This is crucial for a successfull striker. However, if he's bursting through from midfield then this causes panic in a settled defence. I wish McGlynn would see this as a better option than the passive/aggressive guy who's first on the teamsheet.
  11. I agree 100%. There will be outrage from me if he brings in someone of same age as Bryce from an SPL team, someone who will not give the same effort as our own signed youngsters. In saying that, if it's someone early 20's who is on the fringes of an SPL squad then that is slightly different.
  12. That's true actually. Hissy told Fife's Finest to shut it when he scored, Davo told folk to shut it when he misplaced a pass
  13. The weird thing is, I find myself in the position of defending Davo and it's a little disconcerting. I really don't want him in the team
  14. Fair enough. As I said in previous post, I was sitting close to a guy that shouted something. It wasn't that he was wrong in letting his frustration with Davo boil over, it was the self-righteous way he went on moaning after Davo told him to shush. You know the thing I mean - "he shouldn't be acting like that/he's the captain/ why's he reacting?" Well why fucking shout abuse to him in the first place?!
  15. Not around where I was sitting Michael. One guy spent the whole game muttering under his breath about Davo and couldn't wait til he could jump on his back. And yes Ferry & Ellis got it in the neck too, but isn't that in itself a little ridiculous considering the season hasn't even started yet?! Seems to me like our boo-boys have been doing some pre-season of their own.
  16. Agree with the first 2 paragraphs but not the third Paco. Irate punter shouts abuse at player, player reacts with "shhh" gesture, punter furiously responds to the player like he's just witnessed him stabbing a baby. I've always wondered why fans who shout at players get an attack of morality when the player reacts to him. I know he is the captain and should know better but his intelligence is zero - he reacts to everything. I've went ballistic at him up in Arbroath for punching an opponent but tonight was nothing to get worked up about. Remember, Fife's Finest went mad at Hissy for doing the same. Chill, people! To the game. I will repeat what I said after the Norwich game - Tade is not a striker, he is a midfielder. He cannot get his positioning right and seems at his best either running with the ball in the middle of the park or up the flanks. He can't give knock-down headers either. I want him in my first team but not as a centre-forward. Williamson too should be out wide which helps bring Wilson into the game more. We have a bunch of central midfielders who all gravitate towards the centre of the pitch no matter what position they're told to play - Ferry, Walker, Tade. McGlynn has spent 6 games now trying desperately to force a partnership together between Tade, Weir, Williamson yet 10 minutes watching Bryce & Graham play off each other naturally has me questioning the man's sanity. The 2 youngsters should have had more match time at this stage of our preperations but his pig-headedness has shone through this pre-season. Of course, what do you expect from a guy who puts Davo's name first on the teamsheet to the continuing detriment of the team formation
  17. That would explain why his attempts at goal touch the sky.
  18. I think that too. Murray can play anywhere in back four and since his headering ability isn't that great he could find himself out there. Ellis can play left-sided centre-half (easily his best position) and would add better ariel ability to the position than Murray so I hope McGlynn will put him there. Hill might be adding depth to the squad at the moment, no more than that. Absolutely no argument from me on your point re Davo. His first instinct is to drop deep leaving big gaps in midfield. Sloan, Simmons, Ferry and at a push Walker are my picks in midfield before Davo. edit - not all at the same time, of course !!
  19. He's more than that I think. Ferry possesses more composure to stick the ball in the net than Tade and Williamson do! Thinking back to his goals last season, he's best utilised as an attacking midfielder arriving late into the box. I know the central midfield berths are taken up and Smith will be wide left thus limiting his chances in the team, but i'm convinced he is best in centre mid - he's just hardly given a chance there. Even wide right is a position we should try him in. He'll be found out as a left back this season on the ground - if played there - though I will concede his clearing headers are invaluable in that position. The problem McGlyn has in signing players that can play in various positions, is that finding the best team formation is going to be a riddle he might not solve in time.
  20. re the midfield debate, it's imperative that Sloan gets a game 'cos if we're playing strikers that struggle to score then we need pinpoint delivery from set pieces as another option. Anyone see Davo take a corner tonight?! Case closed in my eyes. Over to you, Mr McGlynn.
  21. I didn't. I can see his pace causing problems but we have Lee Bryce for that. His arial ability is non-existant and to not hit the target twice when clean through with the keeper to beat has all the hallmarks of an Anelka dud. OK, I got all that from 2 pre-season friendlies but it doesn't bode well. Sorry However, Grant Murray is worth signing and tonight certainly wasn't our strongest team (and against a team better than all our rivals this season) so all is not lost.
  22. To sum up then. We need a centre-forward and a left-back, on tonights showing anyway. I guess that's no major surprise though I'm not one for snap judgements & over-reaction but, woah! Tade is on a 2-year contract?! Yikes!
  23. 7.30 ko according to THIS link Although going by their massively out-of-date picture of "Starts Park" i'm not very confident of that time
  24. After reading posts from our fans welcoming Jon Stewart to the club, you'll forgive me if I don't comment on the Dougie Hill speculation just yet...
  25. Did you see Silversun Pickups? I thought they were amazing. Great venue, the Oran Mor. I've got nothing until Frightened Rabbit & Faith No More in August.
