  1. Maybe he is, or he isn't, but you've chosen the wrong thing to defend. Like Putin, Blair lied to the people of his country about it all. British troops were straighforwardlt invaders and occupiers of someone else's country. And in the end, all the occupiers were forced out.
  2. I expect they used Roman Concrete.
  3. sh*t, I remember them, they were absolutely brilliant.
  4. Seem to recall that running out of ideas, and playing players grossly out of position marked the last days of Brian Reid.
  5. Ritter Salted Caramel, An hour or two in the freezer.
  6. Digital Minimalism , by Cal Newport. Basic thesis is that all forms of electronic/digital communication are low bandwidth, ie they are just connections. 'Social media', texts, email.... they lack the nuances, inflections, subtleties that come with face to face high bandwidth communication, conversation. As humans we are social beings, and need high bandwidth communication. Newport asks the question.... " If you had to pay for every minute of time that you spend on social media, just how much of your time would you devote to that..?". He does not suggest to ditch social media, but to regulate our use of it. He also suggests not to do a cold turkey exercise, of suddenly removing it from our lives. He advocates, instead to gradually do more high bandwidth stuff, in the real world, join things, interest groups, and to assign 'social media' to specific, reduced time slots. In doing so, more fulfilling, deeper human communications replace low bandwidth, mere connections. I don't actually do too much of social media..., Facebook a few minutes each day, and no Twitter, TikTok etc. but I'd heard rather a lot about this book, as I've begun to slightly resent how much of my life resides in my pocket..., my smartphone. For me, Newports book was a worthwhile read, a slightly lumbering one, but it does confront you.
  7. Once you've seen an old black and white newsreel.... horse drawn carriages, black suited figures, slowly walking... overlaid with the 'Death March' music..... You've seen them all, really.
  8. Indeed. Couple of mornings ago, I accidently turned on R4, instead of R6 Music. I think it was the Today programme, covering 'the queen is deed, and what happens next'. The couple of minutes that I listened, before switching away, it was all repeated intoning of 'the constitution' , 'constitutional arrangements'..., and 'continuity'. As in..... the face changes but the status quo/show will go on. There is no ****ing constitution, but we are all subjected to this barrage of crap to disguise that, and confer some kind of legitimacy on the whole farce of these parasites. Never, ever, seen or heard the BBC in quite so blatant state broadcaster mode.
  9. There are just over 58,000 names on the US Vietnam Mermorial Wall. The numbers of those killed in Vietnam, and surrounding countries... on the receiving end of US attentions is, as usual, uncounted. It has , though, as I recall been estimated at over 3,000,000.
  10. More whataboutery....... and irrelevant diversion
  11. Perhaps so. It is though completely irrelevant in a scenario where demands are made to pay in a different currency, supplies being cut due to so-called 'routine maintenance' etc etc...
  12. They weren't too bothered about the people in care homes during Covid.
  13. Yes, I have for years. Sometimes takes a few days, but they do dry.
  14. You're conveniently overlooking a political truism. Opposition parties don't win elections. Governments lose them. People basically just get tired of them, and want change. There's been lots of years of the current flavour of Westminster government, and their time is pretty well up. I'd be surprised if anything that Truss/Rishak does on energy costs makes a blind bit of difference to the result of the next Westminster general election.
  15. Just been to websites of Sainsburys and Waitrose. The reviews on both of those for AH Hot and Sour have turned very negative, saying that the new 'Improved Recipe' packets are bland and sweet, not at all an improvement. Was yours a secret stache of the original ?
  16. Domestic rats are class. Dumbo rats in particular are about as gentle as creature you could come into contact with. Much better pet for a child than rubbish hamsters and gerbils. Unconvinced. No way would I let one of those Siberian Hamsters across the threshhold.
  17. Actually, it's your views that are gormless, and the way you've manipulated what people have been saying is mendacious. If the energy companies were nationalised, there would be an immediate mechanism whereby a government could control the prices available to retail, and business customers. What there is right now is a failed 'free market' system, that's squealing to the government for a bail out. As in ' privatising the profits, socializing the losses'..., in it's own way, just like the banking crash of 2007/2008. As energy is a basic utility, it absolutely should never have been privatised.
  18. Well, I remember the poll tax riots..., the one in Trafalger Square was I think when the Tories realised the game was up for Thatcher and that policy. They removed her, and to some extent that saved their bacon for some more years. This time round, the current Westminster government are prisoners of their own ideologies.... privatisation, de-regulation, toothless 'regulators', the 'wisdom' of the markets. The full spectrum of their policies, not just one. They've all failed. The government does have to go. If, though, what you're suggesting by 'removal' is more akin to the sound of tumbrils rolling, then democracy has also failed.
  19. Yes. I'm sure I used to hear mine say.. "...Ooft. Come on mate, I need more than a £5 ers worth..."
  20. The latest.... Just how almost dead would you have to be before you'd qualify for help... ? https://www.theguardian.com/society/2022/aug/21/gps-could-prescribe-money-off-energy-bills-under-treasury-plan
  21. I don't fancy the liver/cheese/omelette combination, sounds as stomach turning as tripe. Though seriously considering liver and fried onions in gravy + mash potatoes. Old school and unfashionable these days, but I loved it as a kid. Tasty , cheap, and healthy, ( Not for the cow obv. )
