  1. Well, the 'guidance' now is to wear masks in certain circumstances. Just to recap somewhat.... On 12 th March, the government decided against tracking and tracing. They'd been asleep at the wheel, and it was too late for that. In addition, there ideology had spent years chipping away at, and privatising public services, so there were no resources immediately available to them anyway. Me ? As soon as the lockdown was announced, I looked at what I had. My hobby is messing around with cars, so I had some disposable gloves that mechanics use. Typically these cost £5 at most, for a box of 50 pairs. I also had a couple of face masks that I use, with protective glasses, when I'm scraping around under a car. So I had some kit , and wore them for shopping right from the get go. Couple of weeks in, time to get some more. With health workers crying out for PPE, where to find some ? Only place I could see was eBay. Ordered a pack of 10 masks from an eBay seller that seemed to have better feedback rating than others. That's the light blue coloured ones that you see around. Price £11.45. 8 days later the gloves arrived. Package fitted in 'Large Letter' envelope, so postage relatively small. The 'real' price' of these masks in normal circumstances, retail, I'd guestimate to be about £2, £3 max. The first one I tried , the elastic earband separated from the main mask as I put it on. Gloves.... The best I could find on eBay was a box of 50 pairs. £11.99. Gloves arrived within 3 or 4 days. Quality OK. I go for Nitrile gloves, non allergenic. My question is...., if guidance now is to wear masks, are we supposed to buy everything from eBay profiteers ? Where are we supposed to obtain the things ?
  2. Westminster abdication of responsibiity.
  3. From the way you write, over a series of posts on this, I assume you're not considering yourself to be one of those 'taking one for the team' and being subject to the death pill.
  4. It's good for the soul, nothing to do with the Tory sc*mbags. What I hate is the feeling that when I give, I'm filling in for what a government should be doing.
  5. To me, Brewdog always looked like an outfit that appeared out of nowhere, with huge amounts of marketing puff. In ordinary business terms , something seemed not quite right, without being interested enough to ask myself why.
  6. I thought we'd seen the best of him when he left last time. This time around, would have been an uphill struggle for him anyway, as the overall performance of the team has been mediocre to say the least.
  7. Yeah, I think it's fair to say that it's a close relation of spam. I never go near either these days, but what with all the addtives, and salt..., the flavour does get enhanced, and when you're sinking your teeth into the sarnie, it's easy to think it's rather tasty.
  8. Sorry for your loss, Steve. Yes, it does seem brutal. Perhaps a commemoration of the life of your Gran a wee bit further down the way, when this thing eases off ?
  9. Los Angeles is now offering free Covid-19 testing to all its residents. Bearing in mind that the US was even slower off the mark than the UK in acknowledging that coronavirus was a problem, it really highlights how useless the Westminster government is in it's approach to testing.., and most of the other things.
  10. Unless you're really desperate to get another car, might be an idea to ask around for a better price than £800+ for a head gasket repair. Typical price for a HG repair on a 'bread and butter' car is more like £350 - £450. And if you're really skint, you could look at one of the 'pour in' head gasket fixes. Steel Seal, K-Seal ....... If you do, make sure you're looking at something that seals head gaskets, rather than is really just for radiators.
  11. Public health experts ( identify, isolate, track contacts ) were sidelined, whilst data modellers, and 'nudge experts' ( behaviour psychologists ) got their voices over listened to.
  12. I think the scientific people, by standing up alongside the politicians at the briefing .. have rather sullied themselves on this, and the presence of political advisers..., Cummings..., at what are supposed to be scientific advisory groups ( SAGE ) .. has made things worse. There were no gowns, visors, swabs or body bags in the government's pandemic stockpile when Covid-19 reached the UK. The scientific advice seems to have been compromised by that reality. The blunt fact is that politics have taken precedence over public health in this, and the scientists have been sucked in to it..
  13. For the most part, in this crisis, the players and owners of the EPL have revealed themselves to be greedy, and self-obsessed. Not too much changed there.
  14. I used the Underground a lot in the early 1970's. Does CERN have a dark, musty smell in it's depths, and the smell of vomit on the stairs ?
  15. The 'appliance of science' * has been rather compromised by political considerations. I'm not keen on the application of some kind of age based apartheid when the underlying problem is a lack of competence in addressing Covid-19, testing, and contact tracing. Young and old are equivalent spreaders of the thing. * Didn't that used to be an ad for a fridge, or something ?
  16. As RandomGuy mentioned, this should typically be half an hour's labour ..., plus cost of the part. Part usually in the region of £10 - £15.
  17. What you describe sounds rather like a drop link is knackered.
  18. Must admit, I got about a third of the way in, to the point where's he saying it's just another flu..., then got tired reading. IIRC from previous stuff, a major difference between Covid-19 and flu is that Covid-19 is far more infectious. Also, he appears basically to say that the reports of PPE shortages are essentially mainstream media scaremongering. As I say, though, I got yawned out of it a third of the way in.
  19. Ah, of course...... , lot's of work going on behind the scenes. Absolutely , old boy.., absolutely.
  20. Thanks. I thought as much, you don't really have a constructive point. Probably best if you ***k of back to your own RR thread with your garbage.
