1. I'm a big fan of Iona, beautiful wee island. The fact it's only 3 miles long and 1.5 miles wide means it's pretty easy to explore, although it's got a really rugged coastline in places, particularly on the west side. Despite not being religious I find the Abbey pretty fascinating, some great stories and history surrounding St Columba, the Vikings and the MacDonald Lords of the Isles. The highest point of the island is Dun I at 101m. Easy enough climb up although can be boggy in places. If you've got binoculars take them as on a clear day you'll get views to Tiree, Mull, Staffa, Jura, Islay and the Treshnish Isles to name a few, possibly even as far as Rum. The best thing about Iona is the beaches, especially to the north. The top picture below is the White Strand of the Monk in the north east. The other one is of Traigh an t-Suidhe in the north west, possibly my favourite beach in Scotland. Usually very quiet and great views to NW Mull, Staffa and the Treshnish Isles. Lastly if you've got the time (and the sealegs) then take a trip out to Staffa with Staffa Trips. Well worth the £30. About 50 min each way and then about an hour ashore. The columnar basalt rock formations and Fingal's Cave are magnificent. No puffins at this time of year but the trip itself is good for seabirds and often marine mammals. I've posted a picture of the island earlier on in the thread. Enjoy yourself.
2. I love the soundtrack to Local Hero. Going Home is possibly my favourite piece of instrumental music.
3. When you get away from the main village and the abbey there's some wonderful and peaceful spots on Iona. Dun I is a simple but rewarding climb on a clear day. My favourite beach is probably Traigh an T-Suidhe in the north west of the island.
4. Get yourself out to Staffa to see the rock columns and the puffins [emoji106]
5. f**k me. Arcade Fire tonight were incredible. London get Florence; we get Jim Kerr [emoji41] Been lucky enough to see them 7 or 8 times, last time being Glastonbury 2014, but tonight was the best yet. Absolute party atmosphere. Might have just been the beer but vocally I thought Win was on top form. Still fucking buzzing!
6. Drove the North Coast 500 last week and added on two days on Orkney along the way. One day exploring Kirkwall with a wee visit to Highland Park distillery, followed by a day visiting the west mainland. Loads of historical sites but for me the best thing to do on Orkney is the cliff top walk at Yesnaby. We only had two days but you could easily spend 5 - 7 days there.
7. Same. Been to Rome twice, been to see Roma twice and both times he hasn't played. First time was against AC back in 2010 and he was out injured. Then against Viktoria Plzen in November he wasn't in the squad. Gutted as like many I watched a lot of Football Italia when I was younger and Totti/Roma were my favourite player/team.
8. Similar baldness. Both have tits. Surely not?
9. Apparently wallabies can swim reasonably well. It's only a short distance from Inchconnachan, the island they're on, to a neighbouring island and then another short crossing to the 'mainland' just south of Luss. Pretty sure there was a story a good few years back of a lorry hitting one on the A82.
10. I got this book about 5 years ago and agree it's worth getting if you plan to visit a few islands over time. Loads of great information on the history, geology etc of the islands.
11. @8mileBU Yeah it's expensive but believe it would feel like tremendous value for money once you're out there. @StevoFife Very jealous you've been twice with a third trip planned! Great picture. When I get round to the Outer Hebrides the plan is to get a Hopscotch ticket. Won't be this year though as doing the North Coast 500. The_Kincardine Yeah took those myself.
12. So far I've visited: Arran Bute Cumbrae Iona Mull Orkney (also Shapinsay) Skye Staffa I'm a regular visitor to Skye and never tire of the scenery and dramatic skies. Elgol has already been mentioned and to me it's the best corner on the island. However my favourite island I've visited so far and will take some beating is Staffa. Lucky enough to have visited twice when the weather has been great and the second time the sea conditions allowed the skipper to sail into Fingal's Cave. Hoping to get round to doing some of the Outer Hebrides soon. The beaches look incredible. A trip out to St Kilda is high on the list too.
13. Got given this by the good lady for Christmas. Delighted!
14. Add Fiat 500 drivers to the list. Every single one driven badly; slow, hesistant, no awareness of what's going on around them etc. Dreadful drivers.
15. I did the free beginners group lessons at World of Golf a couple of years back and would recommend it for the basics. Over 6 weeks you cover all the basics although you don't get much more than 5 minutes one to one with the guy each week as he obviously has to look after 8 folk or so. There's a few golf pros on Youtube I subscribe to. Peter Finch is my favourite (both teaching stuff and his general golf vlogs). In terms of instructional stuff Chris Ryan Golf is pretty good. His "3 Keys" videos are easy to understand and make sense. Buzza Golf is another who I think explains stuff pretty well.
16. It is that. The Concert Hall's a great venue when someone's that good vocally. I enjoyed the film part part but the second half was dynamite, on a par with their Glastonbury show last year.
17. Suede tonight at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
18. Aye was a great gig. Place wents nuts during Disco Down!
19. Great venue and great gig, if a little short. Here's the setlist: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/idlewild/2015/paisley-abbey-paisley-scotland-3bf440d0.html Enjoy!
20. Switching on Paisley's Christmas lights this year apparently. Dream gig.
21. Idlewild with the RSNO at Paisley Abbey tonight. Also got the Songhoy Blues at SWG3 on Thursday.
22. Ultimately though whichever method you use the spider will still be there. As much as I'm a B method man myself the situation shown in the picture is the best case scenario as you can see it from a front on view. Using method B the toilet roll hanging down hides the spider so you won't see it until it appears over the top as you pull the paper.
23. The accent on the Australian girl who hands out the flyers for Replay on the corner of Renfield Street and Gordon Street.
