  1. Excellent post, and absolutely spot on.

We (the club) are always looking at ways to make us and the community better, the recent launch of our ladies' team demonstrating that.  At the early stages of the WoS, we did have conversations with the LL and had a note of interest in joining the WoS. After much conversation with clubs (in both areas) we felt that we owed it to the SOSFL to remain and focus on how we can make the league better and change our approach; we've worked closely (as have other local clubs) to provide a path way for players from Galloway Thistle into senior football, and brought in a young and ambitious management team.  Had we gone to another area, that opportunity may not have been afforded to us - we want to continue doing what we are doing.

The discussion on the number of teams, structures, and associations will never go away.  It's like the whole 42 senior clubs & 4 division model - it too could change.

Any 'merger' and we've been honest on this can not be at the detriment of any current T6 club.  If they chose to go in at a lower tier and that option was offered then that's their own choosing.

People say the longer it goes on, the less chance it will happen.  Who'd have thought 5 years ago we'd have a WOSFL and no Junior setup.

Because of all the shenanigans at the birth of the pyramid the SOS is at Tier 6 and cannot just be removed without their consent, which I don't see being discussed at any SOS meeting upcoming.

Is there going to be an amicable solution forthcoming as none of the parties involved appear to be talking to one another?

My own personal view is that the present set-up is not really helping the SOS and the clubs as any match ups between the 3 Tier 6 Leagues results in open ridicule of the SOS clubs.

The constant derision aimed at the SOS is unfair on the hard working committees, volunteers, players and supporters at the clubs.

Thoroughly deserved win for Gretna on Saturday, best overall performance i’ve seen for 2 seasons! The passing was as good as i’ve seen from us.  Stand outs were Iain Anderson (unplayable all afternoon) Robbie Ivison and Alex Potts, but to be honest the whole team were excellent to a man!

I’m not making excuses for the team but considering we didn’t have a single player on the books back in June, we’ve been incredibly unlucky with injuries to key players. Its now great to see us have a consistent starting 11 & the boys now have a bit of confidence to go on!

Always tough away from home but much more optimistic of us getting a result at Stirling Uni than i would have been if we had of lost on Saturday.

It'll be an incredible effort to stay up.  I didn't think there was much between us last week in the cup, but the quality over Newton Stewart told in the end.

There does appear to be a good group of players, possibly confidence, but a couple of wins in recent weeks will do you no harm at all.

    Good luck 👍

Hopefully this is conveyed the way its intended and is definitely not a slight on the SOSFL
I think, my view, is that the South are there at Tier 6 rightly, why because they joined the SFA at the right time.

Nearly all your post I agree with and your first comment that I have put in bold, I am in total 100% agreement -

But and its a big BUT, unless, for talking sake, the pyramid changed and allowed 3 relegation from the Lowland so it would be the top 3 champions of the WOSFL, EOSFL and the SOSFL are all promoted, I think that would be wrong as the, I believe the SOSFL team will probably be relegated the following season and be the whipping boys and you think, what's the point when there are stronger teams in the East and West. But that can be argued that they may not, they might bring in higher quality of coaching staff, come into money and bring in higher quality of players.  I do however want the best and strongest teams to enter the Lowland on merit but I don't think any team who wins the SOSFL would beat any premier WOSFL and EOSFL premier teams due to the quality, (again my view but that is only from visiting games in the East, South and West).
We all want a 3 up - 3 down throughout the pyramid but would 3 up include the SOSFL champions, right now, it rightly would because SOSFL is at tier 6 but should it

The second content that I have put in bold, yeah, agree with that, it could happen as the pyramid progresses and think its the only way that would satisfy all parties. Out with the talk by many that of SOSFL is too high a tier, rightly, we should or any football pyramid should and expect to have each division in each tier the strongest it can be and suppose if the SOSFL was regionalized and go to a tier that 'WE ALL' think it should be then great, but would everyone who supports the SOSFL be supportive of that. Even if they did and it happens then no matter what that should never diminish the chances of any SOSFL being allowed to be promoted like every other team through the divisions to a  level they can cope with or beyond.

I think the South Challenge cup is great,  You have all the teams from Lowland, EOSFL, WOSFL and SOSFL all battling it out to win the cup and this cup is the hardest cup to win but again, comments previously, the promotion of the cup has been way down the listings but its gives SOSFL teams a gauge for them against others and gives SOSFL teams the chance to make a game of it and put out a big gun during their endeavors in the cup.

What tier would you put the 5 licensed clubs, 4 of which have been playing by the rules, and complying with SFA licensing conditions for longer than most other West Clubs have been in the pyramid combined.

I get its a contentious topic and i posted in the West Forum a few days back on this too.

What if we merged the South and West and put all licensed clubs in a West super (South and West licensed clubs) and filled the rest of the spots in the Premier with clubs to meet the number of spots for that league and then dropped the SSFL (non-licensed) T6 clubs in to the West T7; would clubs accept that?

Ideally you don't and shouldn't penalise anyone, so you may need to rejig the Tiers below. Is having a license enough to catapult you to a higher level 🤔

There is no reason to drop any T6 SSFL club to a lower level but neither has there been any alternative put on the table.

  4. Back to the SoS and WoS conundrum.

South and West T6 licensed clubs in a newly revamped West Premier along with X number to make up 16/18 teams and then the rest slot in to Div 1/Championship with 3 up 3 down, but then relegating everyone else or could you revamp the West to retain the current number of leagues but restructure to ensure no one gets relegated (premier aside).  I doubt anyone votes will being relegated but regardless of your view, the SoS has 5 licensed clubs (Newton, Creetown, Wigtown, Saints & Dalbeattie) and possibly Gretna next season too. Some of these clubs have been SFA members and played by the rules long long before any LL was in effect and were at one time T5.

Maybe the West Prem could slot in at T7? ;)

Am an old sentimental bugger, if i stayed near by and seen that i would get a lawn mower(strimmer) and a few pots of paint and tidy the ground up every now and again. Then again maybe just says a lot about me!!

I'd love to have a look in the old pavilion and see the state of it now.  Many a gid night in there in my youth

Wasn't there yesterday, at Islecroft on Weds.

After preseason was worried for Saints. Felt they competed well first half against Star. Lost 2 quick goals after restart.

But impressively didn't fall apart rest of game.

Creesider for me have looked good preseason. The mix of youth and experience looked a good fit.

So, is the boss still going with that setup?

Looks the way forward for NS.

Will leave that to those in the dugout to do their thing.

Saw Saints vs Star midweek and I thought Saints looked poor but I wouldn't have said 13-0 against Newton poor.

Tbh, everything we tried today paid offand worked, we played well.

A day for Saints to forget but I genuinely can't see them playing that badly again, or making so many poor decisions.

I wouldn't read too much into it and can definitely/hopefully see Saints improve soon and expecially aim to spring a surprise in the Scottish.

Come on now! Stop trying to pull the wool over peoples eyes! Finances are playing a big part. Newton and especially Creetown are ploughing a bit of money into signings this coming season. It’s happening every where in the league Dalbeattie splashing cash, Lochar Thistle splashing cash, Abbey Vale splashing cash.

The Warwick guy at Dalbeattie sounds as though he likes the sound of his own voice?? is it him who is doing the Dalbeattie Facebook on social media now? His views on signings are a bit OTT imo.

Are we?  First I've heard 😂

Aberdeen have said they won't be taking up the offer. Can't see them changing their minds surely. And it was an invite to the conference. Not the LL

Isn't that for the conference league.  Either way, I'd be surprised if they had been accepted/applied given their stance; but then again, having Lowland League teams travel to Aberdeen wouldn't surprise me at all in this shit show and clusterfuck of an org we have.

Before I continue spouting my crap. I wonder if someone can answer this.

Caley Braves Res.; when I seen them at St.Marys earlier, as far as I could tell all outfield players wre French boys.

In the Southern Counties pretty sure they have played some LL players.

So does that mean for them and I suppose Strnraer Res. they can play 1st team players in this comp.

Do players not have to be registered with the SOSFL to participate?

They can freely float between the two - which contradicts the A Team and B Team scenario.  Nothing like consistency and integrity is there.

If the Saturday amateur league couldn't sustain itself, i'm not sure a new division option would bring in the numbers. Sunday seems to work for people. 14 teams in the league this season. They all know that the SoSFL is there if they want to work towards it.

There's nothing to stop the SoSFL Championship games being played on a Sunday 😉
