  1. Strangely enough I think awful weather and a heavy pitch may be a leveller and good news for us. Not that Dundee are streets ahead of us, certainly in points terms, but that 1st half in the 3-3 game at Fir Park was some of the best attacking football I have seen from an away side this season. We blew our chance of top 6 losing to Aberdeen. So any points gained before the split are to realistically keep us away from 11th place. So yes blustery winds, rain etc and game on please. But very much doubt it will get the green light.
  2. Said that also. They are either daft or have money to burn or probably both. Who leaks these things anyway. You would expect non disclosure to be part of any negotiations so I would take any sums on SO as fiction. But let’s just say for the sake of argument it is £300k PA. If we are prepared to consider that then we must be desperate for cash. I don’t expect many millions, but someone offering up only 5% of our t/o PA can only be looking for 5% shareholding PA if that. Would take 10 years to become a majority owner. Just does not add up. Anyway gives us something to talk about until the Dundee game is postponed…
  3. Or not…… Just maybe Busta we can see what is actually on offer before we fire it into the sea. I don’t doubt (and have said many times before) anyone willing to provide investment will want or should want majority ownership. That of course means a significant dilution to the Well Society shareholding. If and it is a big if the investors are prepared to underwrite any potential losses for a share of potential profits. That and there is 100% no risk at the end of all this that Motherwell can fall into administration or cease to exist or be under any existential threat then the Board have as they have said a duty to explore. It may well be this proves a much more attractive proposition to trying to get a few more £’s out of the Well Society each year. Which at a best guess would only ever amount to an extra couple of hundred thousand or thereabouts.
  4. Yes and No. With the vast amount of relevant financial experience that Jim McMahon and Derek Weir have I very much doubt they would agree to even this next stage unless they felt it was likely the Well Society / fan base would approve. The previous chat was based on hearsay. I don’t doubt that may be accurate but perhaps the terms have changed since then. Either way I assume way we will all still have a vote regardless when more details emerge and we have something final to vote on.
  5. If this game does not go ahead then the powers that be will have no choice but to deduct Dundee…….checks how many points they are ahead in the table…..I would say 10 points. Only fair. Leaving aside the well documented drainage pitch issues the rain has been relentless in Edinburgh also. Rather depressing looking at any forecast as there is rarely a day in the next 10 days where it is not raining for some or all all of the day. Welcome to Scottish spring time . Either that or if the game does go ahead Dundee players are forced to play in Wellies. Still would score a couple of goals against our not so solid defence.
  6. I should point out that I drink Malt late on most Fridays and Saturdays. So any posts after 10pm should carry a bullshit warning. Not up to the usual high standards of my normal daytime posts . I am not saying he has not approached Barnes. I just recall him being asked at some point and answering with he knows where I am type response. Too late now anyways but with our last few results I think he would have been a welcome addition.
  7. Stick by my original post. Granted the follow up one was malt whisky infused . The chances of Harvey Barnes playing for England are remote. If S Clarke made a serious play for him representing Scotland then I am sure he would consider it. Maybe he has. But reading between the lines he has basically said anyone who wants to play for Scotland knows where I am. Like I said before if you want something to happen you have to make it happen. If people want to ridicule that point then fine. But it is essentially true. Red dots or not. Barnes would slot nicely into our team and absolutely make us a more dangerous proposition.
  8. This a 100 times over. It is clear to see for even a blind man that our defence has been a major weakness. That includes the goalie. I would not renew anyone’s contract and start afresh but I am sure Kelly will be offered something. Even today for the goal when the ball landed in the middle of the box he seemed to be at the back post. He is at best an average goalie who has the odd good game in a while. But nothing that could not be replaced quite easily imho.
  9. Not having that. Kettlewell talks for Britain and often has no plan B. But anyone who can take our team of huddies with the lowest budget in many a year and looks like he will get us safe deserves to stay in position. His line up baffles me sometimes. No more than his ineffectual subs but over his tenure he has done a more than decent job.
  10. I said it before and will say it again. Harvey Barnes is exactly the type of player we needed to inject some fresh blood and quality in the side. Steve Clarke - last seen saying he knows where we are if he or anyone wants a cap . Steve has done a very good job but we know he is a stubborn so and so. I very much doubt he has proactively spoken to HB. Which in my mind is an absolute dereliction of duty and why at times I cannot warm to S Clarke.
  11. Based on today I would say you are a few millimetres better than Motherwell.
  12. That was a turgid affair truth be told. We started brightly then for the 600th time this season conceded a comic cuts goal when even basic defending would have prevented it. Basic defending that is beyond this team. For the 3rd season in a row I will say we need to sort out the CB positions next year. A bloody priority ! St Mirren looked a poorer version of the earlier season team but it did look like they knew they did not have to do too much to stop us scoring and take away the 3 points. Until we scored that is. I did feel we had quite a few decent opportunities in terms of possession and crosses into their box. But I also felt like we were never going to score. Until we did. A draw was OK given Ross C and St J lost. So a game down and a point gained on both. Not a bad days work. Impressed by the St Mirren crowd. Clearly losing 5 goals in 20 minutes had been forgiven as many supports would have see a noticeable drop off. Credit it to them for turning up. Top 6 all but wrapped up. Another season when we have to accept they are the better side. This will not do at all .
  13. Now we know who Ketts is . May the best team win as long as they are wearing the famous Claret and Amber
  14. For the first time in ages St Kidding have had larger attendances. Once you stop spunking money you will be back where you belong. Is that really 1000 points behind. At your average points total that would take 100 years and then some to even catch up. For a team that are supposed to be similar you are actually a pale shadow. An irrelevance even.
  15. It is because we are very uneasy and unused to being below St Mirren. Every now and then the weakling comes to the fore. Just a matter of averages etc. It took you taking our old Manager and plenty of ex players to make it happen. Like a Xerox copy. Fair play. But I suspect St Mirren have pushed the boat out and normal service will be resumed soon. What do I expect tomorrow. Motherwell to be the better team and have by far the better chances and VAR to intervene or not but St Mirren to win by the odd goal. Was ever thus this past 2 seasons.
  16. I understand why the SFA do it but I think making the 5 match package available before single match tickets is fkin cheeky. When I go to Scotland games I stay over in Glasgow. Don’t need to but tbh now I am retired (very early ) I simply cannae be arsed queuing up for a train at 10:30 at night. Been there far too often. So I did not bother with the friendlies. £250 a night inc tickets, accommodation, meals, transport and drinks. £500 for two friendlies when I am spending many times that to go to Germany. No thanks and especially not with our dismal record in friendlies. As to the game. It was a painful watch. I fall in the middle between us being on a turgid downward slope and being bang at it and ready for the Euros. What has not changed is we are weak in central defence and right back (without Hickey) and we don’t have a multitude of decent forward options to choose from. Both have been shown up these last 6 or 7 games. Time is running out for both Hanley and Hickey which is a major worry as they both would be nailed on starters if they were fully fit. I also worry about Tierney simply as he tends to break down after a prolonged period of competitive games. Which for him is anything over 2 months. I think we will get 1 or 4 points in the Euros. The 4 points will qualify us and relies on us playing to our full potential with a full team to choose from and with a bit of luck thrown in also. If those things do not happen then it is 1 point or 0 points and back to the drawing board.
  17. I go to all the competitive home games but rarely any friendlies. The stats don’t lie. Apparently we have won only 2 of 19 friendlies yet we have won 15 out of 19 competitive games. Clarke has not got many other options but he is overly loyal to a small group of players and it shows. I am not saying he should have got the begging bowl out to the likes of Harvey Barnes but make a fuckin effort. My understanding is he said he knows where we are if he is interested. I mean come on. He is too stubborn Wales losing has cheered me up. Only cause the jammy sods somehow managed to get 4 home play offs in a row. That plus I had a few Bob on Poland to win the tie. When all is said and done I would rather lose to N Ireland and be going to the Euros. Even if it is starting to look like a daunting prospect based on recent form
  18. Nothing more than we deserve. Been painfully slow going forward and that piece of piss defending is unforgivable. Is it too late to pull out of the Euros. Germany could be embarrassing
  19. I am not disagreeing. In fact I am agreeing . All I am just saying (for the umpteenth time) I am not sure why anyone thinks they can come in and make a return from buying into Motherwell football club when countless others have tried with many different, bigger and more attractive clubs and failed miserably.
  20. There are many owners of football clubs much bigger than Motherwell who have lost fortunes and continue to lose fortunes. With the notable exception of Fergus McCann is there anyone in Scottish Football who has walked away a richer man or woman having invested in a Scottish Football club. Genuinely I cannot think of one. Which is why I will repeat myself. If it is a return on investment you are after Bitcoin is probably a safer option. In fact I would put a casino up there as offering a better chance of a one off windfall. If however you are a wealthy individual and want to waste / spend some money on a plaything before you depart this world - then football clubs are right up there it would appear.
  21. A bit worrying if hardly surprising ! The club has made it clear we need external investment to continue to be competitive in the top flight. Certainly for a consistent mid table / top 6 battle. I don’t doubt a sustained push and relaunch of the Well Society will reap dividends, but not at a scale or for any longevity than is probably required. Is what it is I guess. Remains to be seen what the investment looks like for St Johnstone but surprising they can (apparently) attract US investment and well it looks like we cannot. Nothing has come from the club, which likely means they are still working on various deals and scenarios or as MurrayWell states there is really nothing out there that would be attractive and acceptable to the fan base . Would be good if we manage to top the Turnbull fee for Lennon Miller. Likely required sooner rather than later. Good luck to the new CEO. Strange he has been away from his last role for almost a year but maybe he wanted a wee sabbatical..
  22. You do realise there are wars raging around the world and here you are getting bent out of shape for a few wind up posts on a football forum. These forums are for sensible debate and to analyse post and pre match, but they are also to sometimes to wind up the opposition fans. Genuinely dumbfounded that some fans don't seem to realise this or take offence when it happens. I mean a football forum - whatever next..... Plenty of fans do it. Sometimes I respond. Sometimes I don't bother. Either way I do find it sometimes amusing (maybe I should grow up) when there is suddenly a pile on from opposition fans when all I am doing is reacting to an inane or wind up post from one of their own fans in the 1st instance.
  23. I accept mine is not a popular opinion. Young players are often heralded as untouchable and whilst I am not in any way singling them out as the reason we lost. The simple fact is that that neither made any noticeable contribution to turning our fortunes around. That is the whole point of substitutions. If Vale and Lennon Miller could not complete the full 90 minutes then fine we obviously have few options, but no one is telling me the two kids were more likely to dig us out of a hole than those two who were on the pitch. Pretty much all I am saying. As to the game being largely meaningless. That is one leap of faith. A meaningless game to me is when we are confirmed bottom 6 and mathematically unable to finish in 11th or 12th. Even then with every league placing worth £60,000 or thereabouts and us scrambling about for investment…….
