Not to read too much into it, but I think Kelly said something about finishing strongly and preparing for next season post Hibs. Might just be fitballer chat but while we're speculating...

I genuinely wonder what options would be open to him were he to leave. I have been a critic for sure. I recognise he does have some very good games even this season. But I keep harping back to him having the lowest save % in the entire league iirc.

It might end up being a be careful what you wish for moment, but I do think it is best for all if he moves on.  I wonder if we have made him a contract offer ? It was widely reported he was our top earner and even rumoured to be on circa £4k per week. If it is true that money could be better invested in a couple of players.

If he leaves I wish him all the very best. Certainly no hard feelings from myself. If he stays I would be underwhelmed to say the very least. We need to start from (almost scratch) defensively which includes the GK position(s) in order to try and address our glaring weakness this season.

My issue with Dundee United, and reason for citing them is that they appear to be £10m in debt to their investor. Now thats all very well and good as long as the investor doesnt get bored and walk away. But I wouldnt call that a subsidy. These are soft loans.

We owed John Boyle £11m in soft loans when he put us into administration.

I really dont fancy going there again.

I should have made it clear. I was using examples such as Dundee United as not working even with £10m in investment.

My point being that if they cannot guarantee success with that level of spending then we probably will not with substantially less. In fact we arguably have been a lot more successful already with the status quo as fan owned.

I very much doubt United will ever be in a position to pay that money back nor will Dundee for that matter assuming they also have soft loans.

  3. If it is even remotely close to the rumoured sum and expected share of ownership being quoted on here. Then I would not even expect the Board to bother putting it to the Well Society and wider fan base. And even if they do then I would not expect it to be voted through.

Quite simply a few hundred thousand £ per annum is not going to make a material difference to the club. The Well Society and club could probably raise at least half that with renewed focus / fund raising and not hand over any ownership to anyone ! I also think that at that level it would surely draw out other interested parties.

I noted some comments about the fund raising initiative and the Board involvement. Some in my humble opinion are overly harsh and critical unless those that made the comments know exactly what has been happening behind the scenes.

The Board made it clear that we need outside investment if we are to continue to compete with the majority of clubs in the top flight who do benefit from substantial outside / owner investment on an ongoing basis. That I think we can all agree with. We can debate how much success or otherwise it would bring. Citing examples like Dundee Utd and more recently Queens Park where significant investment has arguably failed to yield any real success. But the fact are we will be one of the very few clubs left that are not subsidised and supported.

The video was alright. Nothing great but not as bad as many are making out. It did generate interest. And if nothing else the wider football and business community know we are actively seeking investment. I still find it surprising that many clubs have that investment as I would see us a more attractive option. I am naturally biased of course.

If as a result of the video the only real interest for now is Barmack and his offer is as poor as is being quoted then we will continue to be fan owned until an acceptable offer materialises if it ever does. It is as simple as that.

  4. Felt for the Dons also. Often I have said it is less painful to lose heavily to the arsecheeks. I remember when we lost 5-1 to Rangers in a League Semi my friend said are you not gutted. I said no. We were never in the game. If we are going to lose would rather in that fashion than a late late 1-0 or penalties etc.

Also love the media asking before the game why Rodger’s is so wonderful and has such a good record at Hampden. Nothing to do with the biggest budget in the league by a country mile (exc Rangers). Funnily enough this is rarely mentioned. Celtic winning cups is like shooting fish in a barrel. They literally have one team that can compete with them on an almost level playing field.

  5. Chuffed for Theo and kudos to Kettlewell. When he signed he was questioned and said he was a project and he saw something in him. Well he was right. Another tick for the gaffer.

If someone had said at the start of the season we could and would get more in transfer money for Theo than we ended up getting for Van Veen. You would have been taken away to the loony bin.

Any bids have yet to come to the fore, so it may not come to pass but another couple of goals post split will help as will this vote by fellow payers. And if Dons fans are expecting £5m for Miovski and we are talking £750k for Bair….something is amiss.

  6. As if we did not know.

If we want to improve next season we need to sort out our defence and we sure as shit need someone who can work on our set pieces as they are dire.

I feel this most seasons but this more than most. Any team has a corner and I worry they will score. We get a corner and I think time to go to the toilet as I will miss nothing.

As good as hair bair has been he is pretty useless at set plays. I have watched him and he rarely fallows the flight of the ball like a Joe Jordan. He kinda waits for the ball to get to him. He needs to improve that side of his game big time.

Main went there in January so Vale is probably the comparison. Maybe Shaw if you count him as a signing.

Which I don’t. I try to forget the fact he actually came back here. I assume it must have been contractual. Up there with Ross McCormack for pointless signings. But that is what happens when you don’t have a pot to piss in. In fact he may well be here next season….

Dundee got the point they needed on Saturday (If Shaw scored & we'd won)

So they did 🤦‍♂️.  Still Dundee looked fairly competent tonight and not like the team we faced for the last 15 minutes a couple of weeks back. Hope they pip St Mirren to 5th.

Also Curtis Main came on. Still to score for them iirc. I assume Ketts was talking about him when he mentioned Dundee outbidding us for players.  One wonders if we would have got Theo if we had managed to get Main ? Not sure which order that all happened.

I'm going for 9th due to our inability to score first in any meaningful way.

Last time we played Aberdeen away were we not 3-0 up……and only just ended up getting a point. You are correct however and going behind 2 in every 3 games is annoying even if it means we are the best team in the entire world at gaining points from a losing position.

Aberdeen being behind us shows what a crock of shit their season has been. But their inability to beat other teams does not seem to apply to us sadly. Even if the last defeat was referee assisted. Would take another draw at Pittodrie. Then hopefully 3 points over Livi and that ought to be enough to see us safe for another season.

  10. One thing is for sure Cormack is throwing money around like Floyd Mayweather. All these Managers and subsequent pay offs. The cost to appoint Thelin and 2 x Assistant/s staff and keep on Peter Leven. I would imagine to persuade him to come they have pushed the boat out.

Probably wrong but I suspect this may work out well. Christ knows if it doesn’t…..Maybe Aberdeen are just cursed..

The County Result now puts a bit of pressure back on. Only a 7 point gap between us and a county.

Which is still very bug with only 5 games left but we simply cannot take the plot split games for granted.

Hopefully neither the away games to county and Aberdeen are on the Wednesday scheduled fixture. Can't believe they did that to nearly all the county/Aberdeen fixtures against us this season.

I would be even more concerned if I were a St Johnstone fan. County look a more capable team certainly in terms of scoring goals.

Our GD effectively works as an extra point v teams below. I think 1 more win and 40 points would do the job. We should be capable of at least 1 win or 3 draws post split.

  12. Dundee fans are generally sound compared to St Mirren fans (on this Board) but tbh that would not be difficult. A couple have thanked us for helping them get top 6 yesterday. One with a clearly tongue in cheek post. So not sure I get the fuss. If it was not us then I am quite happy Dundee made the top 6.

Busta is right in that I think everyone was baffled we were even in with a chance. On the face of it - it has been a poor season, but I say again if someone had said at the start of the season that after 33 games we would only have lost 12 games I would have bitten your hand off for that. Clearly would have wished for less draws.  Hopefully we can kick on and finish 7th or 8th and above Aberdeen.

I saw Barmak before the game at the ticket office heading to the main stand with what looked like a very full claret plastic bag. If nothing else we will have made a few £ profit from his shop purchases….

  13. For many on here criticising Davor is akin to herecy. He is a bang average midfielder. Genuinely no better than Maguire. Just a wee bit shorter.

Typical game in many ways. We seem to b triggered by the opposition scoring. The only mistake made was that a Hibs were not 2 or 3-0 up. Then we would have won.

Kelly had a very good game. 6 words I did not think I would type anytime soon.

Apart from that Gent is a baller. No chance we can keep him sadly.

Casey in that second half was almost comedic. He legitimately tried to give the opposition several goals. That pass across our box just being one moment of ineptitude of many. The weather did not help but we need a total overhaul of the defence and GK. As in move everyone on in the CB and GK position.

Glad we did not lose obvs. And to see that out of 33 games we have only lost a dozen in such an apparently poor season is somewhat surprising..

Fire a few crosses into our box towards the bear dude, job done.

Fire a few crosses into our box near that Kelly keeper. Job done.

As I said I think we will fall short of staying in the race for top 6. If there was nothing in this game I would be more confident of a positive outcome. But Hibs know they need to avoid defeat. Might help them with their focus.

As I said previously our defence and goalie will have to have the game of their season for us to prevail. But I fully expect to be sitting there in the 1st 10/20/30 minutes saying to my pal how did Hibs score that goal…..Why did we not make any attempt to defend etc etc probably with their 1st effort on target also.

Motherwell is roadwork central the now btw for anyone travelling there are 4 way lights at Carfin, 3 way lights outside the Mega Bar and I believe the roundabout at the college end of Ravenscraig is going to be closed all weekend which will be lovely with a thousand or so away fans travelling through from Edinburgh.

Thanks for the heads up. Will leave a little earlier this Saturday.

This has all the hallmarks of the 6-6 game. I suspect most neutral fans would agree that Hibs have the better players / squad especially since their January additions. Their front line ought to be amongst the best outside the old firm. So I don’t doubt they will score and probably a minimum of 2 goals, probably before we get going as per the norm this season.

In the unlikely event our defence and goalkeeper can all play to their very best then we may well win this. But genuinely I feel we will give ourselves another mountain to climb and that will be one step too far.

Certainly will look at the odds for a high scoring game. I will say 2-2 or 3-2 Hibs. Hope I am wrong 🙏.

I'd say bringing up gender / sexuality in the first place, then posting a picture of someone eating popcorn, is the very epitome of starting of debate.

    Anyway, back to the football.

I will gladly get back to the football. But still stand by my view that you cannot judge the value of an individual or specifically what they can offer Motherwell FC based on their political leanings. Anyone trying to back that up and justify that particular point is wrong imho.

Last words from me. It does not affect me as I tried to cover in one of my entirely rational posts, but to go out of one’s way and make anyone who votes or favours Tory feel unwelcome on this Message Board or supporting MFC is not a good look. Not very inclusive and I doubt that is the community ethos Motherwell so closely encapsulates. I would say exactly the same thing if said person mentioned any other political party in a similar way.

Guess that's directed at me for highlighting some of the mental comments levelled at WS Board members, questioning their direction and motives (and therefore I'd argue it is implied also their integrity).

You've had a bit of a bad morning on here, best move on before you end up in P&B jail.

Not aimed at you at all.

Not had a bad morning at all. Just saying what I feel is correct. Judging individuals on political persuasion rather than what they can actually offer Motherwell FC / Well Society seems rather narrow minded.

I don't think there's anything wrong with mentioning a board member's particular leanings in the context of a thread about that particular club. It's only when people start debating other political issues (such as gender and sexuality) that the thread is in danger of getting diverted. We don't want to delete stuff more than necessary.

Nobody was debating anyone’s gender or sexuality. I correctly pointed out that would and should not be tolerated, so why should the other stuff be allowed especially naming actual individuals. Should you not take a dim view on that ?

well said, which is why I've removed a few posts. If you want to debate politics, sexuality, and gender identity, there are better places to do it.

I 100% agree this is a football forum. That is why I am here.

But if I may suggest that you want to remove political posts, perhaps (just a thought) you should remove the post/s a couple of pages back that started all this sh1t ?
