  1. I actually quite like a few of those designs, especially the 49ers one. Is it just me or does there seem to be a lot more trades happening this year?
  2. So happy to be a Redskins fan! What has happened to the defence. Have to say I truly dislike the Lions
  3. Nice to hear someone else is loving these irons. Got them last summer and since then dropped 8 shots of my handicap and won a number of competitions with them. Love them to bits. Playing Canmore next Sunday in a Texas scramble anyone played it recently?
  4. I would be interested in a charity day if it was at the weekend. One of the courses at Falkirk would be a good shout since both the Tryst and Carmuirs are central with good motorway links in all directions. Golf game is starting to suffer again now I'm back at school teaching but at least during the summer i have managed to knock 5 strokes off my handicap.
  5. I prefer parkland since it is what I am used to but do enjoy playing links. In fact the Old Moray course at Lossiemouth is easily the best course I have played. Really like Aberdour which is classed as parkland but is at least next to the water.
  6. Played the Aberdour Open today and was excellent for 15 holes and then 3 stupid holes probably cost me the competition.
  7. Club Championship final tomorrow so hoping the rain stays off. Been playing pretty well so far this year but just can't seem to get my handicap down since all my really good golf has come in double comps.
  8. I was looking at these today and it is nice to hear from someone that they are actually decent.
  9. Played the worst game of golf at the weekend in the pouring rain and I have decided it is now time to finally buy a decent set of waterproofs. Anyone got any good recommendations? Nothing more than £150 if possible
  10. I agree that the North Inch is the worst course in Perth and I would say that King James is the best. I have to say I wasn't very fond of Craigie Hill the couple of times I have played it and would recommend giving it a miss. If you are able to drive Crieff was good for a day out that last time I played it. Did the 9 hole course in the morning to warm up, grabbed some lunch and then played the 18 in the afternoon. I also love playing Muthill, which is a nice 9 hole course and is very good if you are just learning. Finally Kinross have two cracing 18 hole courses and both of these are good to play. Pretty sure the Bunkered vocuhers cover all of these courses and so if you can get a mate to go along then it makes it a lot cheaper.
  11. I keep meaning to go up and watch them but can't seem to find the energy to get my butt up to Edinburgh from the Borders. Might take the wee man now that he can actually sit still for 15 minutes or so
  12. For the next season I just wish for RG3 to get healthy enough to start and smart enough to not take so many hits. Shocked at the QB list on page 1 of this thread since I would have RG3, Luck and Wilson above Kaepernick.
  13. Let me know how you get on with them. I personally took a few weeks to get used to the grips but now the grips on my woods feel weird. With reagrds to woods I recently got the Adams Speedline 3 wood for £70 quid and I am hoping that it works well but haven't had a chance with the weather.
  14. I bought these last year and managed to win a couple of competitions and get my handicap down from 20 to 17. Probably would have gotten lower if the course wasn't flooded every other weekend. The clubs are super easy to hit especially the hybrids. I got them off Direct Golf at Edinburgh and tried a few others like the Adams Redline. Hit both the Adams and T9+ about the same but the cheaper John Letters won the day.
  15. Been my first season back playing golf for 8 years and it was firstly just good to be enjoying playing again. Due to the weather and holidays it took me half the season to get my handicap back and it was a lot higher than I had been expecting (20). After getting my handicap I managed to play in 6 single competitions, a fourball competition and a Texas scramble. Out of the 8 competitions I managed to win 2, come second in 2 and third in another. So it was easily my most successful season as a golfer and I managed to get my handicap down to 17. Probably only going to play in another couple of competitions this season due to me playing football on a Saturday and having to spend some time with the kids. For next year I would love to get down to around 12, my old handicap, but most of all I want to continue enjoying playing rather than getting peed off when I'm playing.
  16. Just discovered I won a free round of golf for 4 midweek at Linlithgow Golf Club. Only problem with the prize is it needs to be used before the end of October and I will be unable to use it. If anyone is interested in using it then PM me and I'll post it out.
  17. Wedges like drivers are a minefield to buy since there is just so much choice. Couple of really good deals on direct golf at the moment too which just adds to the confusion.
  18. King James VI and Alyth are two good courses in the Perth area but unsure how much they are a round. Maybe you should look at bunker vouchers to help with the rounds. In other news managed to get my handicap cut again today so pretty disappointed that the season is coming to an end.
  19. 15 quid is a little pricey but I might have a bat round it the next time I am over at the in-laws. I know what you mean about missing the signature traps since I've always thought if I played St Andrews I would just throw a ball in the road hole bunker just to have a shot at playing from it.
  20. Well you would want to win the diddy major first before moving onto the important ones. This way you give the 'big names' time to get better.
  21. Just had a nose at the Playsport site since I hadn't heard of it. Looks an interesting set up. Have you played the course since it looks quite nice.
  22. Another 2nd place in the competition at the weekend and have noticed such a huge difference in my game after actually practising for a while now and again. Not I need to try and maintain my interest during the winter months though knowing our weather I might get more games in during the winter.
  23. Got a new Yonex driver today and spent the evening on the course trying it out. Hitting it much better than my old Callaway so looking forward to the medal at the weekend now.
  24. Nice to hear you are hitting the T9+ irons well and now I don't feel bad about recommending them. I'm certainly enjoying playing with them and I am out hitting alot of my partners in competitions off the tee using the 3 hybrid. I got my set also from Direct Golf though the Edinburgh branch. Now just waiting on my new Yonex driver to arrive to see if I can sort that part of my game out.
  25. In club tournaments you add up your score for every hole and then take off your handicap and this gives you your NET score. This will hopefully be close to or under the courses SSS which may change from competition to competition. The stroke index is mainly used when playing in match play, for example if you were playing me and you were getting 4 shots then you would get a stroke off your score at holes with stroke index 1 to 4. Hope that makes sense. The stroke index is also used when playing in a stableford competition.
