Wikipedia has got them both going out to Zaragoza in consecutive rounds. Are you saying that the QF draw was made before the last 16 was played, such that a Hearts win over Zaragoza would have mean they’d have played Dunfermline?
Exactly, indeed it must have been... Hearts v Zaragoza went to a playoff that wasn't held until 2 months after 2nd leg, and was effectively simultaneous with QFs starting.

This has come up on here before, but in the case of Hibs v Leeds the draw hadn't been made yet when the first team were knocked out. Based on the history of the competition, it seems plausible to me that there was an element of "country protection" in this tournament which would have made it less likely (or even impossible) they were drawn together. The semi-final draw had been made before Rangers lost to Leeds though, so that was definitely a narrow miss.
I cannot find thread but I've a feeling this point arose years ago and Dunfermline + Hearts in 1965-66 was the only occasion 2 non-OF clubs got each other in a draw.
Might be mistaken though.0 -

The clubs will though, a bit of revenue at the lower end of the scale lost. The Premiership clubs are just bullies after all its a FA competition and nothing to do wi the Premier League. A joke of a decision.

What's particularly sad is the FA think these secret negotiations produced a good deal because R5 returns to a weekend plus they get some pennies (in EPL terms); and anyway they "had" to help EPL clubs in Europe as there simply aren't enough dates.
Yet somehow those same EPL clubs have found enough dates to start the season 1 week later than previously, and spread R4 out over a weekend and adjacent midweek. You can also bet that in a few years they'll want to take the weekend part of R4 out and just play it in midweek. Meanwhile the FA Cup Final is no longer the last game of the season - nor even has the weekend to itself; and replays have inexplicably also been abolished in R1 & R2 even though EFL1&2 clubs wouldn't want that.
They've been completely outmanoeuvred by EPL.2 -

Why can't it be another midweek at Dens?
Plus won't many ticketholders need turned away - Dens holds more than McDiarmid and have to be unallocated seating?0 -

I'd say the lower picture there, of the English cup final, is an unusually good action shot for 1905, it's easy to imagine being there. I mean compare it with the picture of the Third Lanark team, which isn't even an action shot but it looks like it could have been taken in 1880.
But what really shows that the past is a foreign country, is the fact that the Newcastle keeper is wearing the same strip as his team mates. Until right now I would never have guessed that that lasted into the 20th century, but googling reveals that it was only his cap which showed that he was the keeper. I am astounded!
If people think Hampden has bad sightlines consider the view most spectators got of that FA Cup Final in the old Crystal Palace ground:

Broxburn continue erratically; but still looks very unlikely anybody can catch them. Down the bottom is clearly now a 4 cornered fight with Inverkeithing, Glenrothes, Luncarty and Crossgates.

Hawick's form has badly collapsed since February... unless they or Pumpherston can finish in rampant style, it looks like the top 3 are fairly secure, with West Calder in driving seat for the title. Plenty head-to-heads to shake-up the placings certainly.
Stoneyburn have now reached double figures of home postponements (plus 7 more away)... thusfar 44% of their home games have been off.

I can see them doing most events in Glasgow, but send the athletics to London (depending on West Ham’s needs) or Birmingham.

Anyway our First Minister has done a bit of grandstanding hedged in caveats and claims we may step in. Given we don't have an athletics stadium - plus Hampden is now bidding for UEFA finals in 2026 & 2027 - and public finances are shot, this surely isn't happening: Humza Yousaf to 'explore' Scotland Commonwealth Games bid - BBC News
Equally if we're not hosting athletics I don't really see where we fit in... e.g. any nation with an athletic stadiums will have a track and a pool.On 19/07/2023 at 14:40, Inanimate Carbon Rod said:Humza Yousaf talking about stepping in is utter nonsense. We can talk about the potential venues for this and that, but as a country we’re broke, whispers of Glasgow, a city with child poverty, massive cuts to addiction services and social services pending but we’ll spunk money on the commonwealth games? Aye right.
2014 behind the scenes was a complete shambles. The only reason the costs were kept down as significantly as they were was that the Police were roped in to do much of the logistical planning and security (ie around the athletes village etc where in other countries it was private security companies), the snp has defunded the police in Scotland to record low levels so its just physically impossible to even ‘part host’ the games. Scotland can’t afford to host the euros either. On 04/08/2023 at 23:14, Donathan said:Khan and Yousaf have both made noises about hosting so it’ll probably be London 2026 and Glasgow 2030 or vice versa.
Commonwealth Games 2026: Scaled-down Glasgow event option to be proposed - BBC Sport
Scotland set to put forward Glasgow as back-up host for 2026 Commonwealth GamesGlasgow is among the potential hosts of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
This week the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) said it was "considering multiple proposals" amid continued uncertainty over the event's long-term future. Last week, Singapore joined Malaysia in ruling out a bid, after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew as host in July because of rising costs.
Should any of the fresh bids from outside the UK not prove viable, there is a back-up concept which would bring a scaled-back Games to Scotland. Confirmation of Glasgow's offer is expected in the coming days.
The event was held in Glasgow in 2014 and facilities from then - such as the Emirates Arena - would be used again. So, too, would existing accommodation options.
Instead of the 20 sports in Birmingham in 2022, the event would be limited to between 10 and 13 disciplines. Those efficiencies would mean there would be no public spending, with the £130-150m budget being covered by the CGF and commercial income.
A final decision is expected by the end of May.

Peebles went junior in 1960s, returned in 1970s, but could not rejoin SFA as ground criteria had long since tightened since they first joined decades earlier. Aberdeen Uni forgot to renew their membership in 1986 apparently.
No licence renewal has been refused since scheme began c2010 IIRC... not 'newco' Rangers in 2012, or venue-less Cove in 2016, or Wigtown in 2017 who scratched from cup/mothballed/etc.2 -
