  1. Not sure how you embed tweets, but the state of this... https://twitter.com/Tristin_1916/status/1567929145992302592?s=20&t=R7XwqnqWK-KLcfLqq6M8-g
  2. Really enjoyed it. It was my first time seeing them. Conor Oberst is quite a different character from how I’d imagined him - more rock n roll, lots of (rambly but mostly entertaining) chat, sounded quite out of it but couldn’t work out if that was real, affected, a cover for nerves, etc. Great setlist. Songs from his latest album sounded good, but top songs of the night for me were Another Travellin’ Song and I Believe in Symmetry - I was particularly pleased that he played the latter: would be on my shortlist for favourite songs by any artist. (I’d also love a DAIADU tour.) And we were right at the front - closest to the stage I’ve been at a gig in years.
  3. Edit - ticket now gone. No takers, huh? Well it’s about 80 mins until I head out to the gig, so I’ll revise that… Would anyone like a ticket for free?! Would like to see it go to a good home over getting left unused.
  4. And on to a second gig of the week this evening. Off to see Bright Eyes at the Barras. It's a postponement from 2020, and really looking forward to it. Got a spare ticket if anyone is interested: It's face value £32.50, but will sell for £20, and can email it via PDF.
  5. Arcade Fire were so good last night. I'd been looking forward to this gig for months, although as I posted further up I did come to the gig with a touch of unease given the news of the past week or so. Probably as a result it took me a while to get in the zone with it. From looking around the crowd I don't think I was alone on that score. There were some empty spaces including one of our group deciding to stay at home. But it's some back catalogue, and I'd say by about the time they got to The Lightning I and II they were cooking on gas and getting a great reaction from the audience, with the biggest cheers for Regine, I thought. https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/arcade-fire/2022/the-ovo-hydro-glasgow-scotland-33b09001.html My highlight probably Sprawl II or Haiti. I'm also a bit of sucker for Unconditional off the new album, probably through having kids about the same age as them.
  6. I'll be going on Monday. Pretty sure I've seen them tour all but one of their albums (the last one), stretching back to seeing them in the Debates Chamber at Glasgow University Union in 2005, which I'd probably rate as the best gig I've ever been to. I'd been looking forward to this gig for months. Looks like I might not be following the prevailing wind of this thread, but I do feel uneasy about it all given the stories of the past few days. Balancing that against them being one of my favourite bands over the past 17 years, and the likelihood of them not touring any time soon after this.
  7. Pollok 6-0 Girvan in the preliminary round of the Scottish Cup. Probably time to stop filing Pollok under random matches for me - my third trip to Newlandsfield and fourth time overall watching them in recent months. (The three games at Newlandsfield have yielded 18 goals!) Pollok comfortably the better team, although a 6-goal difference was probably a touch flattering. Still about 30 minutes left to play when it went to 6-0 and I was wondering if my record of never seeing a team score more than 7 was about to be broken, but not to be. Here’s goal number 5 going going gone in…
  8. Pub quiz several years ago - the team I was in came first equal. The two teams had to nominate someone to take part in a tiebreaker. Write your answer on a piece of paper, no help from your team, closest guess to the correct answer wins. I went up for our team. The question: in what year was the poet William Wordsworth born. Beyond a vague guess that it was probably somewhere between the 17th and 19th century I had no idea. It was clear that the guy in the other team didn't know either. I went for a stab in the dark guess of 1770. The other guy also guessed 1770. William Wordsworth was born in 1770.
  9. Rangers 2-2 PSV Eindhoven: in the away end with a friend who had come over for the game. Decent, lively game. Thought Rangers were slightly the better team. A howler from PSV goalie Benitez to make it 2-1, and at that point Rangers racking up a goal or two more wouldn’t have been a shock. From there, PSV did well to take a draw back to Eindhoven. They’ll be favourites now, I think. I tend to avoid Ibrox, but credit where it’s due it was a great atmosphere. Rangers fans made a lot of noise, backed their team, and didn’t really do anything that sectarian. They do seem to be a particularly raging set of fans though, e.g. fairly mild taunts about Celtic from the PSV fans brought plenty of red faces and apoplecticy (if that’s a word). 600 tickets sold in the away end, apparently. I guess it was pretty short notice for most of their fans. Away end felt about as busy as when I’ve been there with Queens - slightly emptier maybe. Also, despite my plan to take my mate to some decent pubs before the game, he was (understandably) keen to join the main group of PSV supporters in Walkabout. It was heaving, played lots of Dutch rave music, all good fun, and a big space to drink in. But I’m guessing a lot of foreign away fans for games against Rangers and Celtic must end up there. Great advert for the city - one of the worst pubs in Glasgow!
  10. King Creosote at Kelvingrove Bandstand last night playing From Scotland With Love in full. Perfect summer evening, majestic album, poignant footage. Really enjoyed it. Last time I saw him was in mid-March 2020 - the last ‘normal’ thing I did for a wee while. Fingers crossed that it’s not an omen.
  11. Not the best photo, but the one who had come dressed as Tinky Winky and a couple of his pals across the segregation in this one.
  12. I was at this game today as a neutral. I thought a draw was a pretty fair result. Been a good few years since I saw an own goal as good as the one just before half time. I was sitting not too far from the Accies fans. A bit of testosterone and Green Street cosplay, but seen similar from most clubs at this level at one point or another. I suspect that the guys who made a break for the Thistle fans knew fine well that they’d be stopped before they got anywhere close.
  13. Partick Thistle 1-1 Hamilton Accies. Went along for a work thing today (which may or may not have been connected to the half time entertainment!) - Best own goal I’ve seen live in several years. - A few young guys in the Accies support into the Green Street cosplay. They tried to charge the Thistle supporters at one point, but I suspect it was in the full knowledge that the stewards would block them before any of that. - A draw felt pretty fair overall, I thought.
  14. Yup. It’s certainly the case in Finland as well. I have lots of relatives there, and despite making a point of correcting them on it every time to a level which is probably really irritating, they can’t help but refer to where I live as England.
  15. A good mate of mine is a Rennes supporter. They’ve played Celtic in Europe twice over the past ten years or so, and I was in the away end at Parkhead for both. Shouts of ’Putain de Rosbif’ and similar were common from the Rennes fans both times around. Unfortunately I don’t think there was/is much differentiation.
  16. I watched the film this evening after spotting this thread a few days ago. It was excellent, and been down a Wikipedia rabbit hole on things around it over the past hour. One thing that struck me was the amount of events that happened on 23rd November: the opening of the Illuminatus play in 1976, the award of Worst Artist in 1993, the exhibition of money near a motorway service station in 1994, pushing the car off a cliff in 1995, making a reappearance in 2017. I’m sure it’s deliberate, but no idea why. I don’t think I’d have spotted it if it wasn’t for 23rd November also being my birthday. On a side note, I met Bill Drummond once without having any idea who he was until someone pointed it out afterwards. Spent 15-20 minutes chatting to him in the Renfrew Ferry on the morning of the Scottish Cup final when Queens were in it.
  17. On a separate note, as a teenager I went to watch Queens play Meadowbank away - early/mid 90s, top of the table clash. There was a beer festival on under the stand (which I was too young to glean any enjoyment from), so for the game everyone got shipped out to the terracing. It absolutely pissed it down for the entire afternoon. To this day I've never been so utterly, utterly soaked at the football.
  18. I feel sorry for the fans. FC Edinburgh sounds like something that Hearts or Hibs get called in computer games that aren't allowed to use the clubs' real names. The sort of imagination that has lead to Open Goal Broomhill, Caledonian Braves, Glasgow Utd, etc. If changing names was necessary surely there were better options in a city with such a rich history.
  19. Someone should make up a song about him.
  20. Same. I moved to not far from Newlandsfield last summer and it was my first game there. Quite an introduction.
  21. Lower league Finnish football, anyone? This lot play in tier 4, and are currently on a bit of a cup run at the moment - just drawn IFK Helsinki of the Premier League... https://www.facebook.com/sexypoxyt Literally 'sexy pants'.
  22. I’m on 12 points, never thought I’d get a look in for Ireland tickets, so never really paid attention to the sale. Just realised I could have had one! Got tickets for the home end anyway, but the away points would have come in handy.
