I don't think Raith even looked like they were interested in scoring, they played like they were happy with a draw from 30 minutes in.

I’m sorry but that’s nonsense and does your team a disservice. We didn’t look like scoring because of Arbroath’s organisation and workrate and us just having an off night, not through any lack of ambition. We had 5 players in the box in the 95th minute when we scored the winner, including one who started the game at centre back.

Murray himself said post match he’d rather lose a point trying to win the game than settle for a draw. A draw would’ve been a great result for Arbroath and a disappointing one for us.

  2. Can’t believe we’ve done it again.

As others have said, despite how many late goals we’ve scored it never really felt like one was coming tonight. We were miles off it particularly second half and after a bright first 10 minutes. Seemed like one of those games you could play all night and neither team would score.

Credit to Arbroath, they worked hard were well organised and defended resolutely. You can tell they are low on confidence and lack quality in the final third (so did we tonight) but they deserved a point for their efforts.

Much improvement required in performance for Saturday but tonight was all about the result and we got it. The manner of it should give everyone a huge lift going into the weekend too. Hopefully Hamilton is back fit for Saturday, I know we’ve won plenty games without him but he was a huge miss tonight.

  3. We’ve been the better team without being anywhere near our best. We’ve clearly had a game plan to get the ball up to Hamilton early and play off him but despite him pulling out right before kick off we have continued to play as if he’s in the team. Gullan and Smith have offered a threat in behind but winning headers and holding the ball up is not their strength.

We’ve looked dangerous when we’ve reached the final third with Stanton and Easton looking our most threatening players. However, we need a big improvement second half. Think we’ve looked nervy at the back too, can’t remember Arbroath creating much but we’ve been a bit rushed and all over the place when the balls reached our box.

  4. We should all know by now none of us are getting it right! I’ll give it a shot anyway though:

    Dabrowski

    Millen
    Brown
    O’Reilly
    Dick

    Byrne

    Connolly
    Stanton
    Smith

    Gullan
    Hamilton

4 changes from Friday (one enforced as I don’t see Euan Murray being 100% fit) but still looks a strong side whilst also spreading some minutes around the squad.

  5. I expect we will see a few changes here, it will be interesting the see the level of which Murray freshen things up. Brown, Connolly and Smith seem certainties to come into the side. Reading between the lines of Murray’s post match interview I would expect Gullan to start too. Could potentially see Corr involved as well.

However, it’s obviously a fine balance between making enough changes to give everyone the minutes they deserve and making too many changes it disrupts the rhythm of the side.

Players/fans/management could be forgiven for having one eye on the huge game on Saturday but if we show any complacency we will come up short. It’s easy to forget when this fixture was originally scheduled Arbroath would have been very confident of a result given their form at the time, there’s a decent team somewhere in there and the new manager bounce may help get something more out of them.

Ultimately, it’s two sides at the opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of confidence at the moment, if we show the level of performance and attitude we have in the last few weeks then we should have enough to get the win but given we haven’t won any league game by more than a goal and rarely win by more than a single goal at Gayfield, I expect it to be tight. I’ll go 2-1 Rovers. Would be great to go to Tannadice still on a good run and full of confidence.

Also you have all that “conservatory” money as well.

This isn’t a dig, as it’s clear that it’s been spent well, but it’s not that hard to see why you’ve gone from Matej Poplatnik to Jack Hamilton.

Poplatnik wasn’t with us last season, it was the season before when we probably did have a budget similar to what we have now!

Last year the budget was apparently cut by 50% and we were scrambling around for the likes of William Akio, Isma Goncalves and John Frederiksen. All the stars!

  7. That interview with Jamie Gullan is excellent btw. I praised his attitude from the bench against Dunfermline and it’s really apparent again. Just seems like a really nice guy and talking about having no complaints about not being in the team and just trying to work as hard is possible must be a dream for Murray.

Also, I know we all love Lewis Vaughan but I genuinely think he is one of our most underrated players this season. I know a lot of people that wouldn’t have him in our strongest 11 if everyone was fit but that’s 9 goals already. I think if he had just joined in the summer we’d all be raving about him.

  8. Not a criticism of the club as we know everything has really been excellent off (and on) the field since the takeover, particularly the social media side of things.

However, if they really wanted to discourage people from bringing flares and pyro then displaying a picture of the blue flares front and centre of a post thanking the fans after the Dunfermline game probably wasn’t the best idea.

Check the edited dates, the Raith list was current on Oct 9th, but now needs Daniel O’Reilly added (paging @R.R.FC)

For the others, if @ayrunitedfw  (13 Sept), @madton (29 Sept), @airdrieman (27 Oct), @qpfc (9 Jun), @Central Belt Caley (4 Jul), @Leedafc (5 Jun), @Fuctifano (27 Oct) could look over their posts it would update us nicely. Meanwhile, we don’t have a Dundee Utd list or an Arbroath list.

    Done 👍.

  10. Watching the highlights from Friday (for the 4th time) and something worth mentioning is the reaction of Jamie Gullan to the goals. I am sure he would have been disappointed not to start the game after playing a key role in the turnaround at Hampden and then playing well against Accies. He would have been forgiven for just standing and applauding at the goals.

However, when Vaughan’s goal goes in he is literally the first player jumping on him and in amongst the celebrations which is great to see. I know it’s easier when things are going as well as they are and keeping everyone happy when results dip will be much harder but I thought it really summed up the team spirit in the squad at the moment.

Also, thought Murray heading straight to Robbie Thomson to give him a hug and high 5 after Dabrowski’s penalty save was a nice touch.

  11. Looking at the Dunfermline thread it’s good to see their fans have moved on from discussions around our last game claiming their team is just as good as ours and a combined 11 would be almost 50/50 to now claiming we have the 2nd biggest budget in the league and how it’s been obvious to everyone since day 1 we’d finish at least 2nd due to our monstrous budget.

Clearly dishing out long term contracts to Joe Chalmers and Deniz Mehmet is part of the incredibly sensible and completely real long term project that we can only be jealous of with our boom or bust model with all our eggs in the basket of this season…

Would certainly seem that way. However just watched them rogering our fife neighbours, not sure he’d be anything other than a sub. RR a very decent outfit.

That’s why he was sent out on loan in the first place tbf. He’s well down the pecking order for us when everyone is fit. I’d imagine if Falkirk want him, he’ll stay. How’s he been?

I think our attack would cause both of those teams a lot of bother.  Raith by far the better team but shaky in defence at times in second half

I don’t doubt Falkirk’s attack could cause us problems, they were excellent against Dundee United but we were missing 3 of our first choice back 4, and went with a back 3 consisting of a right back, a central midfielder and a centre back that joined on Monday and hasn’t played for 5 months. I doubt we’ll see that same defence ever again.

Probably due to the fact it’s the most money you have spent on player’s wages for an age? I would honestly be shocked if if Raith’s wage expenditure isn’t the 2nd highest in the league.

I doubt it’s higher than 2021/2022 tbf. We paid fees for the likes of Gullan, Ross and he who shall not be named. Along with hefty wages for Berra and Keatings. McGlynn was very well backed.

Our average crowds have more than doubled this season along with a transformation of the commercial side resulting in us already surpassing last seasons revenue total on that side of things I believe so it makes sense our budget has increased. However, it’s also worth noting Jamie MacDonald turned down a new contract with us and signed for Morton and we also lost Tom Lang and Brad Spencer to League One Falkirk after offering them deals which doesn’t really suggest we are putting all our eggs in one basket.

We have used longer term deals as an added incentive for signings rather than huge up front wages which can obviously backfire (Deniz Mehmet, 3 years ) but looks good so far.

We also lost out on Stanger to Ayr. We will be much higher than Airdrie, Arbroath and Morton but I’d be shocked if there were huge amounts between us, Pars, Partick, Inverness and Ayr.

  14. Excellent first half from us, the best first half we have had at East End Park in about 20 years (not that there has been much competition for that title).

Only downside is we haven’t added more goals, still a nagging feeling that could come back to haunt us as Dunfermline will surely improve second half. Think they have looked a bit more solid defensively since the tactical change moving Otoo forward.

Connolly, Easton and Stanton excellent for us, Moffat brilliant for the Pars, as he has been every time I’ve seen him.

  15. This team has been fantastic this season but I have a real feeling we’re getting pumped tonight. Potentially only one defender playing in their natural position and he hasn’t played for 6 months and only met his teammates in the last week.

Add to that all of the 6 ahead are attack minded and I think we will be wide open. Can only assume McGill isn’t fit.

Still, it will be good to get 90 minutes into O’Reilly and see what he has, hopefully be in stronger shape for what is definitely a more important game up at Inverness next week.

  16. Just realised we have already won as many away league games as we managed in the whole of last season. Next 6 games look a really big test will be interesting to see where we are by the end of it. Keep expecting a bump in the road (and still do in the coming weeks) but the team and management deserve great credit for how they’ve navigated things so far.

Feel like the cup games have come at a good time to give us a chance of some bodies being back for the next league game, also hopefully use up at least one game of Murray‘s suspension. Would still be nice to win both but they’re clearly not priority.

Also, a lot is made of the new signings and the change in mentality in the side and the number of times we’ve said ‘we wouldn’t have won that last season’ which I completely agree with. But also worth nothing there were only 2 new signings amongst the 9 outfield players who turned things around on Saturday.

Rightly so considering you withdrew the ball boys up until we scored after going ahead

There was 10 minutes between the goals, I doubt our ball boys could have wasted much time in that period.

It’s something I have noticed with the ball boys though and like I say, something streetwise teams do. It’s on the referee to add the time on at the end though. 3 minutes stoppage time when there were 6 substitutes and some time wasting seemed not enough.

Very minor point though, it was hardly like we were creating chance after chance or an extra couple of minutes would have made all the difference, a draw a fair result.
