  1. I’ve seen a lot of mention of the “handball” before hand. Surely it’s an irrelevance? It’s not deliberate, it isn’t unnatural position and the player involved doesn’t score from the handball. I may be missing something but that’s the current text of the IFAB rules. Unless I’m missing something it looks like he flicks it down into his arm which is by his side when it grazes it.

Only yellow after Collum went to the screen to look at it as well.

The worst part about it was the context of it. It was an absolutely deliberate, angry tackle following the red card Clark had been given (subsequently overturned when it was shown that the high foot involved hasn’t actually made any contact with Jack). The bail out for it was that the point of contact was on the ankle and not above it, as if getting absolutely hammered deliberately and late on the ankle is safe.

Dan Phillips is one of the strangest players I've ever seen play for us. He does the hard parts of the game brilliantly then will casually pass the ball out of play when he's got a simple 5 yard pass available to him. Don't get me wrong, I like him, but I've never really seen a player with his skill set before

I thought Phillips was absolutely sensational today. Looking fitter by the week and just a colossus in the middle.

  4. There’s been a few posts about us sitting on 1-0 leads/dropping back/getting defensive towards the end of games. That is happening for sure - but I wonder how much of it is a function of a) the already identified fitness issues and b) the lack of quality in attacking areas, especially on the bench.

I agree with the idea of chucking Costelloe in January. Jephcott too if he’s not going to do anything. Do we extend Kane’s contract? I probably would - but if we were able to bring in some quality he’d probably be on the chopping block.

If we can get Clark and Wright back sharpish that will make an enormous difference in two obviously weak areas but we do desperately need to strengthen up top.

Also, if he was even vaguely willing, I’d bring Spoony back in a heartbeat.

Has anybody actually asked one of them how sending a couple of hundred folk to Rwanda will stop getting people on a boat? Especially after they’ve filled all the spaces? I feel like I’m living in an alternate reality here. £170k a head too…

    Not £170k a head, £1.7m a head. £170m total for 100 people.

This was their first chance. Neither a product ot great play or a really great opening.

They then missed a header in the 2nd half from 6 yards. Then an offside Mandron missed from about a yard out.

Aside from that they offered absolutely nothing, and ive found their fans opinion that they were "unlucky" a bit bizarre tbh.

That Mandron chance came as a result of Robinson making an absolute hash of it as well and turning into trouble rather than anything St Mirren did.

We were lucky not to be punished for that or Phillips giving it away in our own box, but generally we weren't cut open at any stage by St Mirren.

  7. So, six games to go before the winter break. That'll take us up to 21 games played out of 38. Where do we think we need to be at that point?

    Matches are:

    Motherwell (a), Hibernian (h), Rangers (a), Kilmarnock (a), Livingston (a), Dundee (a).

A whole succession of away games, and a difficult home game to boot against a good attacking team who are on a decent run.

I reckon if we can take seven points from that lot we'll at the very least remain off the bottom, though probably not by very much. That would probably be a pretty decent return given the opposition, two games on plastic pitches and a trip to Ibrox.

  8. Some bizarre commentary on the Celtic game there, with the commentator saying “o’riley scored a cracker against St Johnstone on Sunday but that one was even better”.

Sunday’s goal was a sensational strike at the end of a brilliant move, a possible goal of the season contender. Last nights was a simple header from a cross.

Was Sheerin or Craig not pretty good?

I feel like one was great, and the other ended up with the same reputation due to being left footed despite being sketchier.

My heart sank when I saw Kane clutching the ball tbh, think Carey was the shout but theres every chance he blooters it over the bar.

Sheerin was brilliant. Craig hit virtually every one to his bottom right and went through a spell where people cottoned on to that and he missed a few.

Best bit of the night was Beatson celebrating with Kane, holding everyone back into the stand and then getting his phone out to try and record it. Multi tasking like a bitch.

I’m fucking raging because despite standing there trying to record for ages my video is only two seconds long and has f**k all good in it.

That was brilliant, I was on my way towards the exit when the pen was given 😂

  11. St Mirren’s tactic of making sure we can’t go down the left when we have the ball in possession is very effective. Basically means everything has to go through Brown who isn’t much of an attacker at the best of times and is having a bit of a nightmare in any event.

Some slight flashes of life from us going forward but we’re desperately missing Wright and Clark just now.

I think that was why the cheer for the goal was so subdued. Everyone in the saints end expected it to be ruled out for something based on the way Hart reacted. So it was a surprise it wasn’t.

It all looked very clumsy and messy - if Greg Taylor wasn’t sandwiched between DJ and Hart, and therefore being the one actually making contact with the keeper, I’m quite sure it would have been ruled out.

There's so many potential fouls in there, both ways, that its no surprise they went with the on field decision.

The reverse angle posted on Saints’ social media also shows a fairly massive shirt pull on (I think) McGowan in amongst it all.

Theres nothing there that’s worth disallowing a goal for, it’s just rotten defending and goalkeeping all round.
