I would rotate the squad big time and get boys like McGill and matthews on from the start. Go with a CB pairing of corr and Watson gives Murray a rest as he keeps having reoccurring niggles. Would probably go with McNeil in goals looks more assured in his footwork and kicking than big Kev

Problem with wholesale changes being if it all went wrong he'd (Murray) get it in the neck....which to be fair he will anyway if it goes Pete Tong.

I’m actually gutted we never brought a new LB in to challenge Dick. Last few weeks he has been terrible!

after last weeks performance Murray doesn’t look like he’s 100% fit. So slow and caused goals because of it.

I still see it being a back 4 tonight with Watson and Murray starting.

let’s hope they don’t break down and back to square one

The requirement for me was another CB, preferably in the mold of O'Reilly as I'm shit scared of the exact scenario above in bold.

I can't see how so many championship teams (ICT, Partick, Arbroath etc) have managed to find defenders and we haven't. O'Reilly's departure to Partick leaves us weaker whether Watson stays healthy or not.

  3. Might go 4-2-3-1.

    RM, KW, EM, LD

SB, RM (I think Byrne has been aff it)

    AC, LV, CS

    Hamilton or Rudden up top

    or 4-3-3

    same defence.

    RM, SB, KT

    LV, JH, ZR

A fully fit Stants would change both for me but Byrne and Easton both need to find form before they get starts. The only thing about playing both JH and ZR from the start is it limits our options to make positive changes from the bench.

Broony, Stants and Matthew or Byrne would be great to see again.

  4. The fact that Ashcroft is being talked about in almost revered terms speaks volumes on what we're lacking and on our (perhaps just my) realistic hopes and expectations imo.

I'm no Euan Murray fan and never really have been but I hoped he'd come good (or adequate) if paired alongside a decent CB, sadly that hasn't transpired. That he isn't 100% fit won't help him, however he has a few other failings too.

Watson has spent more time with the physio than training, I suspect that's maybe why he only got a 1 yr deal. Hoping he stays injury free until May would be a massive gamble.

Adam Masson can't even get the nod over Corr, which is surprising given that, other than the night he was destroyed at Dens in the RB position I feel he has done very well.

Corr was shaky to start with  (Annan) but has been solid of late when called upon, can't understand why he's not getting game time.

The Rovers held the cards on keeping hold of O'Reilly, and as said chose not to. I was told there were reasons O'Reilly couldn't get a club earlier in the season and I get it that we didn't want to pay over the odds or give him a long contract.  A few years back we opted for a long contract with another striker when if we'd paid the fees asked by the one who then went on to sign for Killie maybe things would have turned out a lot differently. Imo this non deal has similar overtones even if not quite direct parallels.

If we don't sign anyone decent in the next few days, and IM continues to shoehorn players into less natural positions then I think the decision not to give O'Reilly what he wanted will come back and bite us.  Maybe O'Reilly wasn't the best thing since sliced bread but he had aggression and desire, 2 qualities we could have really used on recent weeks.

  5. I wonder if Duncan the bampot's prior thoughts on plastic pitches have altered any since he got a win on ours?

Good to see Dundee getting Lee Ashcroft fully fit and scoring sharp before they send him to us.

Seriously though even though I know there's plenty of time before we can't brought a loanee in, it's the opening of the window we should have done something in,  could well have saved us some points and kept us in the cup if we'd dealt in a defender. Cannot but wonder if Ian Murray will look back on the decision not to keep O'Reilly with regret.

  6. Drunken Duncan has done far better in the transfer window than Ian Murray.

    In came:

Defender, Cammy Kerr on a loan (permanent?) deal from Dundee. Always thought he was decent

Defender, Chilokoa - Mullen, loanee from Leeds Utd, Scotland U21 cap looked fairly solid

Defender, Remi Savage. Another big lad, only 22 and previously with Liverpool and Newcastle before signing on at ICT.

Defender, James Carragher, loanee from Wigan another big lad (6'4" ) brought on to see the game out.

Midfielder, Max Anderson, another Dundee loanee.

Alex Samuel, another loan deal this time from Ross Co. Hadn't done much to catch the eye previously but we couldn't handle him, in fact we never got near him!

Six new faces, perhaps they weren't full gelled but they were gelled enough to see us off, we couldn't handle them. The main issue in our inability to handle them was their size, was there a guy under 6' in that team? I think not, they bullied us and we couldn't handle it.

Key issue being ICT have been weak at the back with the likes of Devine taking flak for losing goals, he looked solid enough with the 3 newbies alongside him and the left back Harper had the better of Connolly most of the day.

Obviously introducing Rudden to counteract their height advantage in the box backfired when Hamilton had to go off after 5 second half mins but that's no excuse for continuing to punt it high and long for the next 40 mins, in fact that seems to have been the game tactic since Stants went off against Ayr in December.

Summary, ICT sign 3 defenders, any one of which would massively have improved out team.

I’m not convinced anyone picked up anything serious from the bounce game.

The sort of situation where if you feel the slightest twinge, you’re coming off regardless.

Hopefully you're right and everybody came out of it ok.

However history shows bounce games against Taysiders are always a bit of a lottery, Aaron Lennox had his jaw broken against Dundee Utd in a friendly

  8. I was more impressed with D O'R than at first I thought I'd be and because of that surprise, I'm sorry he's off to a rival, still it could have been worse he might have gone only 10 miles west! The problem will be finding a decent replacement, center halves aren't exactly ten a penny these days and decent (let alone good) ones are rare as rocking horse shit.

I feel Murray now definitely has to make an acquisition or two at the back, Dan was big and physical in a way that we generally aren't and his presence will be missed.  We have looked shaky recently with both Muzza and Broony both failing to stop their men getting shots away, Saturday was different (from what I've seen) from recent conceded goals. Airdrie were not only big they were very physical and bossed it, Todcheaterov made space far too easily for himself with that header, we simply have to do better in those situations.  Both Mason and Corr lack the physique so hopefully Watson come back sooner than later, all the same it'd be handy to have another guy who could fill the role, to me it seemed O'Rielly was a ready made fit. Although Broony can obviously play there it's clearly not his ideal position and we need his presence more in front of the defence than in it.

In the media I notice the Courier pissing on our chips a little too, "ooh only 4 points from the last 12 has the Rovers bubble burst?" Perhaps no more that playing to the local crowd but F*** 'em all the same.

  9. I too would like to see O'Reilly signed up, seems only Murray and Hannah are signed beyond next June so defensively I expect we'll see some contracts refreshed but which ones? I think Watson will be released and possibly Dick and either Corr of Masson.  Wouldn't be too surprised to see a brand new face arrive in the transfer window.

Midfield wise we only have Brown, Mullin, Stanton and Connolly beyond this season. We simply have got to get some re-signing done there. Easton and Byrne priority, I'd like to see Rossco and McGill dealt in again but will the gaffer feel the same? Other than new contracts I doubt we'll see anything in this window.

Up top it's Hammy and Smith until 2025, I can see Vaughan staying but what will Murray do about Hammer? I think Ross will be allowed to leave, shame that as I still think he's a player.

  10. Pars seem to have enough issues to deal with on the park without these wee neds adding their vile behaviour off it.

I missed the game through having to be at work, but from the highlights it'd appear that even a misfiring Rovers are on a different level to the Pars these days.

The Pars goalkeeper appeared to castigate anyone and everyone, appealing for who knows what for both Rovers goals, clown!

Edwards would have been better employed trying to defend the ball in from the corner than trying to foul O'Reilly to prevent the second.

Pars fans say if you cut Chris Hamilton in half he'd have PARS written right the way through him. Interesting, I know how they do that with rock but how do they manage it with a pudding?

Speaking of puddings, Chalmers? easily megged by Vaughan for the free kick that lead to the 1st, what an absolute donkey he looks.

Oh and Craig Wighton?  I'll say no more.

As poor as the above were/are I reckon Pars can (and will) still steer clear of relegation trouble, in fact with some added quality brought in to replace (the above) on the park and McPake off the park there's hope for them yet.  Lacklustre or lackadaisical? It's certainly an outfit lacking something.

TBH Rovers in parts looked far from great either though, and for the 3rd game in succession Rovers got caught with the exact same thing, our midfield allowed the attacker too much space and the defence didn't do enough to close down the threat. Murray (for once) came out to meet the threat but Summers side stepped him far too easily.

I remember the Pars fans with the 4-0 signs when we couldn't buy a win against them in season 1996-97, perhaps we should knock up some 5-0 ones for March?

It's all going to end in tears 😂 Just give it time 🤣

Awww the wee shame, Poor wee tazz our current success must be absolutely eating you up.  If we f**k it at least we'll be in the Championship next season.

East Fife on the other hand are close to being on the road to oblivion.

Places1 11 and 14-16 are former Division 2 members, will the Fife be in that select group soon?

  12. To all the fans of other clubs who say Rovers are just lucky to be scoring late in games to win games and that the luck will eventually run out, here's a wee bit of perspective.

If something happens once or twice then yes that's a bit of luck, however if it's happening consistently then that's no longer lucky, because tbh that's not how luck works.

Also, It appears every team knows what we do (and when we'll likely do it), yet they seem completely powerless to prevent it. From that point of view it's not lucky, it's just my team is doing things right and theirs aren't, end of!

Got to admit, this boy Tarmo's salty tears are the cherry on top.

    What a fucking team... superb!

Having missed this historic event though work, I too had enjoyed the wee Brucey bonus of this Roaster Tarmo's words of wisdom.

Dear Tarmo, the league cup is a real cup, I've not only seen it but held it too. Winning it when we did got us entry into the UEFA cup (also a real cup at that time) competition where in the second  round (3rd tie) we played Bayern Munich ( a real team).

Oh and ask your mum to buy you an encyclopedia of football for Christmas and if need be get her to read it to you.

  14. I'm a great believer in strengthening during the transfer window, given that IM said there was no reason to bring in anyone else in the last window and hinted at keeping something back, who would be a good signing to make in the new year?

Other than a wee bit of defensive cover I can't see an awful lot of room  for improvement, however another No9 could be interesting, perhaps something if not to take us  up a level then at least stay ahead of the competition.

I’d be surprised if it’s a big crowd to be honest.
Having seen 3 derbies already this season, with another 2 to come, I think I’ll give this one a miss.

Just me with a bit of Townie fatigue or anyone else feeling the same?

I thought I was being conservative with 8,000. I doubt too many will feel the same as you though, especially once the PR teams hype kicks in. There were over 7.5k at the last game through there and cup games usually tend to bring out more fans, I'll be quite stunned if there's not at least the same amount as last time.

    It a shared gate?

Yes after expenses, although I think the Pars get to keep all hospitality revenue.

Assuming a bumper cup gate of 8,000 at an average price of £16 a head, (£128k) Rovers should be good for around £70k (45%)

It and the Thistle v Spiders games are the tastiest ties of the round, what say the Beeb plunk for the West coast game?

  17. Re, Jimmy the Janny,

Yet history shows our highest league placing finish since the 1920's being under Jimmy the janny Thomson.

Jimmy and the Harv left for Millwall in late Feb having done most of the heavy lifting to be fair the wheels could easily have come off then and there, but they didn't. Jimmy T's team played 9 won 3 and lost 4 (Celtic & Killie away and Hearts & Rangers at home) in an almost identical WLD ratio to Jimmy Nichols.

The majority of JT's signings didn't really pan out (eg Bonar and Paul Browne) but some weren't too bad (Peter Duffield) and others like Twaddle and Harvey did well in the Premier with Motherwell. His best singing though was Miodrag Krivokapić.

Paul Harvey is a figure of scorn with a lot of Raith fans but he clashed with Munro and was sidelined and shown the door. before he had a chance.
