  1. Delighted about Thomson - was very concerned that we may lose out on him.
  2. The uncertainty over reforms in Scottish football can't be helping either. I'd imagine clubs are holding off until they get a clearer picture of what's happening.
  3. I don't like the rather odd V neck bit It reminds me of West Brom. Other than that, thumbs up from me. I also like the return to O'Connells as sponsor. As daft as this is going to sound, it's a much better looking logo and it blends in nicely with the shirt.
  4. Brian Graham won't be here next season, so what Morton and Raith offered him two years ago is immaterial. Disappointed Campbell will be staying with Morton if that's true, but I can't blame him given the respective seasons of both sides. It also looks like Morton will hang on to their better players, whilst our top scorer leaves. We'll just have to look elsewhere, and hopefully this doesn't automatically bring Pat Clarke back onto the fold.
  5. Nice change from the usual, though ideally it would have been against a team much further south!
  6. Laidlaw and Callaghan have signed for next season. Source - Club's Twitter page with link to OS.
  7. Donaldson is capable enough. If we're going to keep justifying the cost of our youth system, we actually need to start having faith in the players it's producing. If we're just going to ignore the likes of Donaldson and Callaghan yet again, then we need to bin our youth system as soon as possible because we're just pissing money we can't afford to spend down the drain. The youth system has to start bearing fruit, but it isn't going to if the players aren't given a chance to prove themselves. If they're not good enough, fair enough, but it's becoming increasingly tiresome watching players play badly for weeks with impunity because the only replacements we can muster are youth players: that's unnacceptable, and it's an attitude that we need to move away from. I'll be disappointed if Hill and Clarke are still here next season, though it appears we've offered them a deal seeing as though nothing's been said. We can get better players.
  8. Two new CMs required, then. It was an area we again didn't get quite right, so I'm not despondent. I wonder what effect the recent news re reconstruction may bring. Could we see cost-cutting clubs scramble to re-sign players they released? Shame about Ian MacLeod. My only knowledge of him came through watching my dad's old highlight videos, but clearly he'll be very well remembered by those a few years older than me for his part in our early 90s glory period. Always sad to see a man die young.
  9. I've always thought this harsh on Doolan and Craig as they played their part in the title win, but Graham certainly can't be begrudged his shot at the SPL. He'll score more than Baird, I reckon, even if his hold up and link up play isn't as good as Baird's was. Graham is a much more refined finisher and whilst I have doubts over some of the rest of his game a level up, I really hope he nets a respectable return. It's been a joy having a natural goalscorer again in our line-up, and he'll be very much missed.
  10. Gary Naysmith, whilst undoubtedly of a high calibre, is made of paper. Even if we could afford him, I'd rather we didn't bother. I sincerely doubt it, however. I'm not fussed to see Malone go, but I actually thought Murray would keep him. The fact he plays more than one position was something I thought might keep him on favour.
  11. Spence's finishing is very poor at times, but 15 goals is a good return over the season for someone who hasn't been an automatic starter. I'd definitely keep him. Hopefully he will soon add some composure, but I've no qualms about keeping him. Anderson I'd also keep. He has been off the boil in the second half of the season, but has been a key source of goals over the season as a whole with his assists. He's a winger in the lower leagues, and that type of player is notoriously inconsistent. I'm not convinced there is anyone better who will be available to replace him with. My concerns in midfield are mostly with those in the middle. We've lacked a definite sitting player for most the season, though I'm looking for Callaghan to step up into that role. Mcglynn was too negative in there, but Murray has suffered the opposite problem. Finding the right balance in there is, IMO, our biggest priority over the summer. Of course, that assumes we manage to hold on to the likes of Thomson...
  12. Hamill is another that seems to play well in a three man centre midfield, but can often be stretched in a central two. He's a better all-rounder than Stuart Anderson, but I'm not sure that's grounds for keeping him, especially on a full-time wage. Murray appeared to favour Anderson over Hamill, so I'd be quite surprised to see him stay given Anderson won't be remaining.
  13. S. Anderson going isn't bad at all if Murray is planning on playing 4-4-2. Callaghan and Walker, provided he's on form, could work pretty well in the middle. Budget is probably dictating us, though. It's hard to say who will leave because we don't want to keep them and those we want to keep but can't afford. I'd let Malone go, though - Donaldson is a capable LB.
  14. Only if the wingers are on their game; very little in the way of attacking prowess in the middle, there. As for Stuart Anderson, he's a player who has one really good attribute but not much else in his locker. His link up play is excellent, but as I said before he isn't going to provide assists and he isn't particularly adept at breaking up play either. For me, he should generally be left out a side that's going to play 4-4-2, but would be a very handy player in a 3-5-2/4-2-3-1/4-3-3 where his best attribute can flourish. In a midfield three, he can provide a good link between defence and attack, which in my opinion is the only role he's cut out for. Ask him to play the defensive or attacking role, and he losses effectiveness big time. Oddly enough, Joe Hamill is actually a more rounded player than S. Anderson. I'm not saying I'd keep Hamill ahead of Anderson, but the merits of both would make for an interesting discussion and I think we can only really keep one of them. I'd imagine Anderson is the more likely of the two to stay, however.
  15. He'd score more goals and do more in an attacking sense. He wouldn't, however, be capable of keeping possession or picking out passes as well. He was harshly isolated in his last season here, with the final insult being the selection of Stephen Simmons in his position in the biggest league match we'd played for years. I wouldn't have him back here, though.
  16. I often wondered if Barclays were paying him to say that all the time. I hated his interviews - he tried way too hard to be as inoffensive as possible and his habit of using longer than required names for everything was irritating.
  17. Under contract: Donaldson Players out of contract, but staying unless removed from their positions: Ellis, Murray Definitely keep: McGurn, Laidlaw, Thomson, Mensing, G. Anderson, Spence. I feel Cardle and Graham will be off, but I'd keep them if I could. Likewise, I'm concerned Thomson & Spence will get something better too, and Mensing made it clear when he signed that we wanted to move back down south. In other words, we can't always get what we want. The rest I'm not that fussed about. There are some I'd like to keep more than others and some I'd definitely punt, but i wouldn't be overly sad if we don't keep any of the rest of them. I'd probably keep one of Hamill & S. Anderson, though neither of these players in isolation offer us enough. Both are competent passers of the ball, but neither are particularly geared towards being an attacking or defensive midfielder. In particular, I don't think S. Anderson is cut out for a two man centre midfield as he just doesn't offer enough in there. He's an excellent passer, but needs others to make up for his lack of pace and attacking and defensive shortcomings, and one player alone cannot do that. Hamill has been much improved, but he's full-time. Can we afford him? Allan Walker is an odd one. He's had a fair few assists, but was absolutely awful for a large spell in the middle of the season. We need to remove the remaining McGlynnisms from the team, so maybe him leaving wouldn't be a particularly bad thing. Hill has been a good servant but his time's up and I won't be upset if Malone goes.
  18. I've not been at as many games as I'd like lately, but the recurring reports of the players being on holiday mode has really irked me. Every single one of them except Reece Donaldson is out of contract, yet there appears to be a lack of effort. That's unacceptable. The season is almost over, reconstruction - the panacea as far as the league's chairmen were concerned - is finished and our crowds are, for lack of a better word, poor. Financially, next season isn't looking good at all and you think the players would appreciate that rather than display apathy because the job of avoiding relegation is done. Maybe it is, but unemployment is a very real possibility for a few of them next season. Murray is going to make mistakes, but I don't think the fact it's his first season in management can be used to rebut all of the criticism that comes his way. This has been a disappointing season, and finishing below Dumbarton (if that happens) could only be seen as an under achievement given their part-time status. He can do better, and I hope that he manages to do so next season. I'm afraid we need a pretty big clear out in the summer. There aren't many players I think we absolutely must keep.
  19. Good grief, that's uncanny. Even the hair's right. Glad to hear he had a decent run out on Tuesday night. He didn't do much against Cowden - and what on earth was his first touch all about?! - but it's good to see him given a run out.
  20. New deadpool points record on this site. Not really surprising given her health over the last few years. Can't say I'll be celebrating this, but I won't be mourning either.
  21. Never knew Charlie Reid was a Kittys regular.
  22. Dundee have signed Barrowman instead, I believe. I can't imagine Cardle is affordable to us in the long term, so would expect one of those clubs (or similar) to be in for him in the summer. We get a decent player, Cardle stays employed and he'll probably get a decent move in the summer. Works out well for everyone. Gives us flexibility, too. Playing with one striker failed miserably, but it could work if Watt, Anderson & Cardle were all playing in support.
  23. Awkward, tbh. Hopefully this doesn't indicate Grant Anderson will miss the rest of the season or anything like that. Will be strange seeing a player I've shouted more than a few bad things at over the years playing for the club, that's for sure!
  24. Murray's use of challenges is beyond woeful. Is he partially sighted or something?
  25. I was actually meaning the likes of Callaghan and the others who rarely feature, but you can say the same for any squad member, really. As far as I'm aware, Donaldson is the only player we have under contract for next season.
