A confidence vote is only a good idea if you have a decent prospect of winning it. Otherwise you look daft. Sometimes it's best just to let the opponent wallow in the fallout for a while.

Fair play to him here, tbh. Didn't think he'd have the backbone to terminate it himself.

Drove in Germany earlier in the week. For the most part, a positive experience. The Autobahn was great - everyone drives properly (keeping to the right unless overtaking) and middle lane hogging isn't a thing like it is here. Obviously people can go as fast as they want in places which might change the dynamic somewhat, but the rules of the road are respected. Bear in mind that cars might appear right behind you very suddenly as a result though. I definitely used my mirrors a lot more than I do at home. Do watch however, as the speed limit can change quickly - either via sign or the overhead gantries. The one thing that did catch me out (and my research failed to find), was that some traffic lights in small towns get turned off at the weekend, or will turn off if there's inactivity. Naturally this happened to me when two other cars approached the junction from different sides and I was a bit baffled as to who had priority.

You know what will sort this all out? A bald* Dutchman. *Exact level of fraudulence under assessment.

The problem there is Zak Rudden, mostly. Never before has a tall player looked less likely to win a header. -

To be fair, Partick also offered him more money than we did, in addition to the longer contract. We got him on a fairly cheap deal on the basis he didn't have a club at the time, but on a wage which was a lot less than he'd be earning at Hamilton. A fair point on Lee Ashcroft, although this did involve Dan O'Reilly's wage being freed up and a couple of other players on admittedly smaller wages leaving the club - one on loan but one permanently. Similarly, Zak Rudden was part-paid by Jamie Gullan (one of our highest earners) being sold. That looked a fantastic piece of business, but unfortunately it backfired. -
The Partick Thistle thread

You outbid us for Dan O'Reilly and then left him on the bench before he got injured. This left us short in defence. A big part of the new board has been controlling costs. Indeed, the increase in backroom staff was my only real concern of the new regime, as this obviously must be paid for. What has been eliminated are the McGlynn contracts including automatic increases and the daft spending on some players, with a better focus on costs to prevent them spiralling. We had no money to bring players in at the start of last season as McGlynn screwed the budget with players receiving significant incresses, decimating available funds even with departures. There is a proper cost structure in place now to prevent this happening again. This seems like something that ought to be obvious and which we should've been doing anyway, but we weren't. -

So what was Mark Menzies actually doing? A very weird description of events, essentially insinuating he was kidnapped. Coke or hookers that he hadn't paid for IMO. -

Helping to send Inverness down would be fitting payback for the years of misery against them. Alrhough this is as good as a meaningless fixture for us, we need to start building some momentum for the playoffs because our form has not been great. Play a proper back 4, rest anyone that is carrying a knock and don't be afraid to drop players that are out of form That's all I can ask, really. -
Rovers 🔵⚪️ v Thistle 🔴🟡 - 2nd v 3rd
Michael W replied to Scary Bear's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
If Partick don't win then we're confirmed second. Quite frankly, looking at this as a whole, failing to finish second given where we are would be a disgrace. We have got the better of them this season, but the games have all consisted of thin margins. Our title challenge is over, so now is probably a good time to play us as we'll be a bit deflated. What we need to do is regroup and build some momentum ahead of the playoffs, with a decent chance that we will be facing our Saturday opponents in it. I wouldn't be looking at the league results as a barometer of how this would go, but there is a sinking feeling that if it's Airdrie, then we are totally fucked. Partick are in good form also. It's very much a turnaround from our last match against them. A very tough fixture ahead of us. -
The New Raith Rovers Thread
Michael W replied to Hank Scorpio's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
I'm pissed off about last night, but there are some viewpoints so far that are going to look regrettable when reviewed with a clear mind. We have surpassed expectations this season and, whilst there is some clear room for improvement in the team, we certainly haven't fared badly at all. It is fine to be aggrieved at the way it's turned out, but it's also the best we have been for over a decade. There have only been a couple of genuine title challenges at this level since we were relegated from the Premier League: some perspective is needed there. -

The problem is that it'll be the even worse tossers from the league below that are VARing it. -

Secure second and hope Airdrie don't win the first playoff. That's it. -

No good comes out of saying anything about Millen, for either the club or the player. For the club you just get all sorts of nonsense in the press (suggestions the manager's lost the dressing room and/or unwanted commentary from various parties having an opinion on matter). You'll also have some people coming along and defending him no matter what it was he actually did/say, which helps no-one. The player meanwhile might find his future employment prospects damaged through gaining a reputation as a troublemaker. I don't see how else it can realistically be handled. -
Bald. Catastrophically, fraudulently bald.

Brexit slowly becoming a Farce.
Michael W replied to John Lambies Doos's topic in The Politics Forum
The farmers were very keen on Brexit because they believed that all those pesky cheap EU imports would stop and they could raise their prices. Here they are giving the game away. https://www.euronews.com/2024/03/26/slaughtered-uk-farmers-protest-post-brexit-rules-and-trade-deals Around 30% of the UK's food comes from Europe, with 20% from rest of world. -
