  6. 42/42 Dunfermline 2-1 Clyde, League One, 29/04/2023. There we have it. 291 days after getting the ball rolling in summer of 2022 with Albion Rovers v Cove Rangers in the League Cup, after the darkening months of autumn and the freezing your baws off of winter; after long drives to get home at 2am and long days with cans of Tennent's on the train, at East End Park today it all came to an end. A party atmosphere (of sorts) for the home side, but it was a bit flat for much of the day as Clyde played well, showing good discipline and looking a much better side than they have for most of the season, while Dunfermline obviously lacked a bit of intensity. Salkeld has been a fine signing for the Bully Wee and he scored a really well-taken goal to put Clyde in front 12 minutes in. It was the first thing of note to happen in the match. Poor defending, with multiple chances to clear missed, led to Clyde conceding an equaliser right on half-time. It was a shame, as they'd have deserved their lead for their hard work, composure, and discipline. Second half saw Jon Craig miss a good chance for Clyde, and then the visitors had a goal ruled out for offside, which looked fair enough. Dunfermline took control as it moved on, and Lewis McCann won it for them with a really good hit after an error by Craig. Tough on Clyde, whose performance deserved a point. But good news from Kelty means it's the play-offs for the BW rather than automatic relegation. And recent performances give cause for optimism heading into those ties. So, there we have it. 42/42. I'll post up a wee reflection/summary later for anyone who's interested. But it's been a joy.

  8. Not sure if this is the right thread for a post like this, but here goes. We may end up in the play-offs, in which case this post is maybe a couple weeks early. Yesterday marked the last league home game for Ayr, meaning, the last regular league game with the old North Terrace in its current look. North side of the ground is being given a much needed redevelopment over next season and will certainly change the look of the old place. The plans are very popular with the Ayr support. Thankfully, there will still be terracing and the new stand will come with some additional seating (around 800 seats I think) along with a roof. A significant hospitality space and clubhouse is the main part of the build. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/ayrshire/ayr-united-unveil-stunning-plans-27193546 https://twitter.com/AyrUnitedFC/status/1535345528686395392?s=20

  10. I normally just post the highlights but wanted to give a big shout out to Haddington yesterday, who were different class. From their cameraman Gabriel letting me share his filming gantry to giving the Rose players a guard of honour back to the dressing room, to their lush bowling green of a pitch even at this time in the season and the friendliest committee - they have a great set up there and I wish them all the best for next season and beyond. Joint winners of my ‘Being nice to the cameraman’ award for 2022/23 alongside The Swifts. Thanks guys!

  14. I don’t think that’s entirely fair. I certainly don’t think we’re ‘entitled’ to anything - we finished 6th in League One last season entirely on merit, because we were a shambles. I think McGlynn has done a decent job - he inherited us at an incredibly low ebb and has undoubtedly improved us considerably. He was a very sensible appointment; a competent football manager to replace the charlatans that came before him. But while he inherited a squad largely weighed down with some muck, I still think it was a squad that underachieved by finishing 6th, mismanaged by the aforementioned clowns. He’s improved on that incredibly low ebb, which I think fits in the minimum of what he was brought in to do. He’s still managing Falkirk in League One, and with that comes expectations. He’s still had one of the biggest budgets in what is a majority part-time league and has brought in a number of his own players over the course of the season. He himself came in and said that the goal of the season is promotion; either through winning the league or the play-offs. I think it’s incumbent on us as fans to get behind the team going into these play-off matches; I don’t think we have anything to fear and if we play the way we can and as we’ve shown throughout the season, there’s no reason we can’t make this season a massive success. I really hope that’s what happens. But I would question the mentality of any Falkirk fan prepared to label a season in League One where we don’t go up as a ‘success’, purely due to being it ‘better’ than a 147-year nadir of 6th.

  15. In my opinion, any season Falkirk don’t win promotion out of the third tier is a disaster - doesn’t matter if we finish 2nd or 6th, to be honest.

  16. It’s an entirely outlandish position. The last point you make is fatuous and irrelevant. Has there been improvement this season? Demonstrably yes - we’ve finished higher up the league, scored 18 more goals, conceded 17 fewer, notched up at least 20 more points (all in a league with more full time teams than last season), gone further in every cup competition. A catastrophic fall in our league positions that has been a consistent feature of every season since Houston went and we’ve installed a merry-go-round of inexperienced and/or clueless managers has been stopped. You want to sack yet another manager and spin the wheel of turd yet again? Pay out money to replace McGlynn and presumably have another 462 players come through our doors who have never met each other and have no affiliation for the club, because whatever joker we get wants his own team? Actually, I take it back. It’s not outlandish. It’s monumentally fucking idiotic. It’s an opinion so astronomically massive in its stupidity that it has its own gravitational pull, sucking even light from the universe into its dense ignorance. I’d wager you pay for a blue tick on Twitter.

  19. I mean I don’t necessarily object to paying a bit more money, especially if we were well run and simply being crippled by external factors. However we’re a business and let’s face it, one that’s been run poorly for well over a year now. I don’t think asking the fans to cover for that by paying over the odds is necessarily fair or right- especially in these time while pulling on the heartstrings with the whole we’re tough people from a tough town pish. However if I do part with my money, what exactly is my near 14% increase going towards next season? To pay off a few more managers. To cover the fact our current two best youth prospects who’ve been key in our recent revival are about to walk away for buttons this summer. To help fund another 18 signings and build another 30 man squad with our throw enough shit at the wall and some of its bound to stick recruitment policy. What is the plan going forward? As a club it feels like we’ve been a rudderless ship drifting towards relegation for nearly 18 months now. If not for a miraculous turnaround under Kettlewell, the Championship was exactly where we were heading. I know, let’s ask our new Chief Exec. Oh that’s right, the person supposed to in place before Burrows left still hasn’t been appointed 2 months after he departed for Pittodrie, over 3 months since he officially handed his notice in. So aye, it’d be nice to have some sort of clarity and assurances going forward before I start chucking more money at the club to help cover 18 months of poor decisions and a general lack of leadership/direction.

  28. Two defensive errors cost us ultimately. One was tolerable in that a young rookie got caught out by Scotland’s gold medalist in grass diving. We were happy when he did the same for us so no complaints. Second goal was appalling. Savoury losing possession yet again, in a good forward position but the effort by Fox against Oakley was unbelievable. Had that been Eze he’d have been getting pelters. I said before the game just nail Oakley and what we have is our biggest centre half giving him a pass into space. Credit to Morton for finishing the move as they did but if Fox had kept his eyes open it would never have got that far. Awful defending. Fair play to Ferrie for his defiant call-to-arms after the game but there is too many of these guys have already made their minds up. It’s the world’s greatest psychologist they need this week in training. When you hear that “we’d have given our right arm for this…” you know failure is acceptable. Second is just best of the rest. Forget everything else that’s happened. 90 minutes from winning the league. That’s all that needs considered.

  29. Melbourne Victory 0-1 Brisbane Roar Att: 6,127 As good an advert for relegation in football as you can get as two poor teams with nothing to play for do very little for 90+ minutes in their last game of the season. Pretty dead atmosphere too in a mostly empty ground. Nice little stadium though and all the sport venues in that part of town make for an interesting walk. Entertainment provided by a handful of Brisbane fans to my left delighted to see a rare win and an invasion of seagulls. Didn’t notice much in the way of Scottish links though Celtic legend Stefan Scepovic was playing for Brisbane.

  30. Can the ones that are serious and going on about sacking McGlynn put the drink down and step away from the keyboard, ffs we have been in this league for 4 seasons and other than the covid season this is the closest that any appointment the club has made have got to us to getting out of this league. Rewind to when Holt and when M and M got sacked top bit of the league and we dropped off a cliff edge with that appointment and why in the name of f*ck would anyone sack them for no other reason if we had got to the final and been hammered by Celtic folk would still be calling for his head. The man damned if he does and dam,ned if he doesn't. Honestly don't know what our support expect, every club goes on a poor run of form (with exception of Dunfermline this season)but seriously do we just demand sackings after a poor result of what a couple of individuals deem unacceptable. See the next time any of you have a shit day at work or a poor day how would you feel if your boss said you didn't have a good day by the way your sacked, have a word with yourselves honest to f**k. To achieve what he has in one season is remarkable. Here endeth the rant

  31. If the future of the club depends on tolerating neds who confront opposition supporters after a title win it's not much of a future. Assaulting 10 year olds at an away match doesn't bode well for the future either. No action just invites the behaviour to get worse. It's not a time for the board to do a 3 wise monkeys cosplay, as you appear to advocate.

Jerry Springer: Jerry Springer obituary | US television | The Guardian I posted as much earlier, but I have a hard time thinking positively of someone who fronted five thousand episodes of this nonsense. That obituary ends with a quote from him: “Television does not and must not create values; it’s merely a picture of all that’s out there – the good, the bad and the ugly.” I realise I may sound like a hypocrite when I say that the audience and participants don't necessarily always remember that, but I think this is a very naive way of understanding how media has shaped society.
