  1. If professional footballers can’t get motivated for promotion playoffs and a Scottish Cup semi then they are in the wrong job.

  3. Quite astounding the negativity that gets posted on here by some. The owner has just said they are bringing in more expertise to run the club better. As a supporter who isn’t in the know, it appears to me that this is a significant step forward for the club. From my perspective, our commercial stuff seems miles off in nearly every area compared to teams recently promoted and the Keatings and other fiascos also suggest that side was mismanaged too. As for the money side, Sim isn’t going to hype that up too much until it is done. It could well be the case that these people are all bringing some level of money in as well as their expertise, and the collective amount is a level of investment is far beyond what we’ve had in recent years rather than one big money individual. I’ll admit there is a fair bit of optimism in that statement but I’m not nitpicking everything Sim says for doom and gloom when he has clearly called RaithTV for an interview to communicate something positive (as was alluded to at the very start). Fair play to Sim for yet again coming on camera and being willing to talk. Looking around other clubs, I don’t see many other owners willing to do the same. He isn’t perfect but he does seem like he cares.

  4. The EFL has 72 teams (many of whom are genuinely big clubs), is played in a country with a much bigger population than Scotland, it is genuinely competitive and exciting (even if the actual football is often poor), people outside Scotland actually care what happens in it, and it feeds into Sky's main product in the Premier League. In any given season you can have really big clubs struggling to get anywhere (hello Sunderland, the Sheffield clubs, previously Leeds and Villa), and it's littered with famous names from English fitba that are instantly recognisable and marketable. The EFL has THE RICHEST GAME IN WORLD FOOTBALL!!!! Scotland has two teams that win every time they're on, and very few people outside Scotland are interested in which one of them will win the league. Precisely not one f**k is given outside Scotland about who finishes third or gets relegated. Big events in Scottish football like the Edinburgh derby cup final or Hibs winning the cup pass by with hardly anyone outside noticing or caring. I've got mates who are interested in football who couldn't tell you Hearts have been relegated twice recently without heavy prompting. You'd stop a lot of people in the street in England before you find someone who can name you an Aberdeen player or tell you who the Dundee United manager is. There is no interest in Scottish football and that gives them literally nothing to sell and the idea our tv deal can be compared to the EFL does not hold water. Even the Big Flagship Fixture, the OF game, is often tucked away in a Saturday or Sunday 12pm slot or some such thing. And people in England (I live in England) generally don't even realise it's on. Nobody is meeting their mates in the pub because Rangers v Celtic is on at 12.30 on a Saturday. I'm just not sure what some people think we're selling here.

  5. Max and Alex (plus any other youngster) will get next to no chance to succeed with CD in charge. He clearly does not "trust' them and would always go with the "experienced " option. Man I absolutely hate him as our manager

  6. Murray has done a reasonable job considering the absolute shocker of a pre season and squad he inherited. We started the season with no centre half's, this was a problem even before Berra upped and left out of nowhere. Murray got hold of Nolan and the young lad from Crewe, he also managed to make Liam Dick into a functioning centre back and thankfully he's got Lang back from a bad injury. Then there was the right back situation where he brought in Millen who was shaky as f**k but he's turned into a solid right back who is more defensively minded than Tumilty was. In the centre of midfield Spencer and Matthews were out injured he brought in Brown who has been fantastic. Up front/wingers/attacking midfielders we had Ross who was out of form carrying a long term injury, Vaughan who it is a miracle can still play but was out until October and is still realistically recovering, Gullan who is a sort of perma crock and you're lucky to get an hour out of when he is fit. Connolly who is generally as dependable as a wood burning stove, Stanton was well out of sorts but has transformed this season for me he's a different player now and he signed Easton who is a quality player but inconsistent at times. There seems to have been some long term mismanagement of fitness and injuries under the old regime. Murray has rolled the dice trying to find the elusive striker big John enough said, Akio and Isma have at least contributed goals but are not the answer, Connell doesn't work out. In terms of the rest he's brought in have been filler to bolster a thread bare squad. On the plus side Masson looks a player and Arnott, Young and Mitchell have all had time out on loan so there is a bit of long term planning at least. Murray has done a good enough job for me, he's got us to a cup final and comfortably kept us up in a transitional season where he has regularly had no bench to speak of and its quite clear we have f**k all money to play with. The real judgement will be next season when he's but his own team. For me the most important are is defence get this right and we turn a lot more draws into wins/defeats into draws. He needs at least 1 experienced defender in there because the individual parts are decent enough to do the job. We'll just have to wait and see who stays and goes between now and June. This talk of getting rid of Ian Murray is frustration and folk need to step back a bit.

  7. Oh FFS! For years we've had to endure prating, Nationalist sanctimony about rescuing innocent wee Scotland from the cesspit of Westminster corruption. At how the New Brigadoon of rainbows and unicorns will be free from the stench of Tory venality. Turns out that your mob can out-Tory the Tories when it comes to mendacity and that, "the entire "Indy" movement" - who were warned about this over years - told us that it was all just Yoon lies and an MI5 fix. That, "the entire "Indy" movement" should suffer by association is only right and proper. You are all complicit. On a cheerier note, my meme of the day. Simple yet funny.

  11. "The investigation may be conditional on who becomes First Minister" with the clear implication that the election of Yousaf as leader would prevent an investigation proceeding; an investigation by Police Scotland into Peter Murrell which has somehow been paused at the behest of Peter Murrell because Murrell and Sturgeon control Police Scotland. Yet within a week of Yousaf becoming leader, Murrell is arrested. There are no holes in this theory whatsoever.

Worth stating that it's pretty clear Nicola Sturgeon stood up in front of the country a few weeks ago and lied through her teeth about why she was resigning. Maybe she isn't the sainted glorious leader that so many people in this country think she is. I wonder if she's ever lied about anything else important?

  25. I’m like a broken record, but I would 100% start Williamson, preferably up top with Shields in a 442. I feel our system has been figured in the last month and we only just beat Cove and while our 2nd half performance against Caley the following week was very good, our 2 goals came from a set piece and a (granted perfect) cross into the box. In open play we seem terrified to shoot despite scoring a shitload of goals this season. Henderson has been Incredibly “meh” since joining from Hearts and rumours of McPake’s honking attitude seem to have more than an element of truth in them. I would start Healy as other than his atrocious dive against Raith, I thought he did quite well and at least tried to make something happen. As mental as it sounds I wouldn’t be too against the idea of dropping Savoury, probably for Jarrett. Savoury has all the ability in the world but when he isn’t on it he’s a passenger. 2-1 QP. Tommy Robson double and a Stephen Eze OG.

  27. When you have a record as bad as that for defending set pieces, the argument to retain both centre backs is a tough one. As harsh as it sounds, I'd be doing everything possible to offload Ross and Gullan. We can't afford them, when you look at the return we are getting from that expenditure.

  28. Interesting piece, clearly a lot of moving parts but a world away from the random Hong Kong consortium. That genuinely had me fearing the game was a bogey. Will it come to fruition..not sure but happy that there is a foundation to work from. Sim seemed more content and a little less cryptic in his answers. The negativity here is both astounding and beautiful, football fans at our best. At no point did I think we would have a reduced budget in fact possibly the opposite. Folk don't come in and invest in changing rooms, hospitality and marketing while signing bairns who will be out their depth. We can all point to failed signings and so can every club. Young players haven't exacly been a waste of time; Mathews, Vaughan, Tait, Hendy, O'reerdan, Bowie, Ross, Gullan show its hard work but possible to find gems. I prefer that to Keatings, Skacel, Stephenson etc

  34. It's correct that nobody outside Scotland would particularly care about Scottish football, that applies to every league in the world except the big four / big five in Europe. It's not something we can influence, and it shouldn't bother us in the slightest. Our TV deal should be compared to its peers of nations around 5mil people or at a stretch less than 10mil. As we are by far the most successful and popular nation in our peer group our TV deal should be significantly higher than, say, Norway or Finland. It isn't because we don't benefit from a strong domestic broadcaster. We should, but that will only come with independence. Until then we will be treated like an irrelevance and paid accordingly. Same as our national team games not being available on domestic television.

  36. Certainly think that if you speak to fans of other diddy clubs outwith the tit for tat bubble of the Old Firm, they would unanimously agree that both cheeks are refereed completely differently from, and to the detriment of, their own teams, and thats what makes cheek screechings about referees so hilarious.

  37. From the outside looking in, I think that's a big part of it. For a team who've led the division for so long, I've been pretty unimpressed with Dumbarton. Maybe that's just needing a bit of time to re-adjust to a drop in level after a decent spell in League One but I suspect it's got a lot to do with Dumbarton being a relatively limited side who found a very effective way to play for for the first half of the season. In our first two meetings, we tried to take the game to Dumbarton and got stung whilst, in the game at Bayview anyway, there looked to be nothing between the sides. In the third game, we effectively copied Dumbarton's tactics, played a solid 4-1-4-1 and looked to counter attack. And ended up winning fairly comfortably.

  38. Just thinking. Since 2018 we've lost a cup final in injury time, been (effectively) relegated with the last kick of the ball in stoppage time. Been relegated again. And now, after leading a league from August until mid-March, the team who were our rivals for the title are on track to win it on our own patch. Being a Sons fan is just like being punched in the balls repeatedly for your entire life.
