  1. What possessed you to think anyone in this thread gives a f**k about anything a wee daft dingus of a Killie fan has to say?

  2. I would also have been pro the concept of VAR had we not had the benefit of seeing it in action for years elsewhere before it hit Scotland. The idea of using a simple thing like cameras to assist referees making decisions they can’t make themselves in real time seems to make sense. Almost a no brainer. But once you scratch the surface, get into the detail, see the impact it has on the game as a spectacle, see the expectations of an increase in accuracy rise amongst fans, managers, pundits and the actual increase not even nearly live up to that, you see it’s really not fit for purpose. That’s before you consider how much refereeing decisions actually influence results and ultimately the outcome of matches/league seasons etc. no way of measuring it really but I’d wager it’s pretty small. A perceived injustice like a ref decision is very, very appealing to the football fan and of course managers whose livelihood is at stake, but does that reflect reality? Put that altogether and you realise VAR is a half baked solution to a problem that can’t really be solved or is even that big a problem.

  3. No doubt Rangers will make several boot licking cringeworthy tributes to the jug eared fucking parasite. Commerative strip and full stadium tifo bare minimum in a hideously embarrassing 'look at how British we are' attention seeking display of boak inducing pish.

  7. As a potential away fan next season, I'd be happy to play you guys in either big hampden or lesser hampden. Both have pros and cons. At the big one, it would mean more fans and given we seem to never get to see Saints play there unless a semi vs either one of the arse cheeks, even when we do get to finals it would be a change. The idea of a delayed trip to hampden is very appealing. However, the prospect of a totally full smaller stadium and the innevitable scramble for tickets, also makes it pretty appealing. What has been built so far, while stupidly under sized, looks great. Fire a couple of temp stands behind each goal to even get it to 4k and it would be perfect in the short term. Rooting for you guys to come up, not just because it would mean Dundee fail, but Coyle is one of the games good guys and I'd imagine the vast majority of St Johnstone fans would wish him nothing but success.

  13. Fed up of reading we are still punching above our weight 14 years after promotion. For these people, how many more years do they want in the Premiership before we become an established top league club in their eyes? It's not even being overly ambitious what we want to see. I'm not asking for cup finals every year and Europe, 45 minutes of decent football would be a good start.

  16. All my best memories of going to the football are celebrating goals, particularly away from home. Now, instead of enjoying the moment, my first thought is to watch the referee for any possible signs of VAR involvement. Football is in danger of completely forgetting what made it so popular in the first place.

  17. Where to begin with this nonsense! Has to be a wind up? I’ll take this at face value and give you the benefit of the doubt. Please explain what is to be gained by non Scottish youngsters playing against part time players in the 5th tier? I could understand if the B Teams were playing against full time professionals in the 2nd or 3rd tier, in that it might help with hardening them up. However, no self respecting club would voluntarily want this for numerous reasons. There is absolutely NO value to the pyramid with B Teams.

  18. There's a Guardian article published today on English officiating, and VAR down south. They have all the money in the world to throw at the problem, and almost everyone is miserable. The problem isn't VAR, and isn't referees, but the way that those involved in football (fans, players, coaches, pundits) are perpetually trying to square circles. There are so few truly objective decisions in football, and yet refereeing decisions are being critically evaluated by people each week, the vast majority of whom are unable to be objective in their own analysis, have absolutely no understanding or familiarity with refereeing in any capacity, and don't know or understand the application of the Laws of the Game. I'm not certain this problem can ever be solved until a level of acceptance is made, that not all decisions can be objectively 100% correct to 100% of people. Officiating is a zero-sum game, and it's always bemused me that everyone around the game can be unhappy. We seem to fixate on the individual handful of errors, and extrapolate that the entire game is broken. Scotland doesn't have the money to pay 30 officials full-time, have 12+ cameras for VAR at every game, and even if it did - what exactly would change? VAR would be more refined, officials would be fitter and probably slightly better, but ultimately, the same decisions that cause massive discontent would still exist. The SFA and UEFA have a communications issue they need to address, as they're still dealing with football in a pre-social media age. Education and communication on how refereeing and the Laws of the Game actually works is long overdue. Getting rid of the objectively wrong moaning on Sportsound would go a long way to slowing the 'death spiral' mirage.

The current position is very peculiar, as I’m sure you lads and lasses remember from a year ago. But it’s better to have loved and lost, than not loved at all. Enjoy the game!

  23. I don't know if anyone else from P&B was aware, but last Tuesday at Portobello library there was a demo against a group calling themselves "Concerned Adults Talking Openly About Gender Identity Ideology". Jist of it is that this group contacted CEC about use of the library for their meeting months ago, and CEC gave permission, but having clocked what they were about also told them that in order for it to go ahead they would have to pay for their own security (to the tune of £600) as it was obvious it would be contentious and attract a protest. They kicked up a stink, but setup a GoFundme for the security costs. After a bit of hoo-haa where even GoFundme rubbered them, they eventually raised the amount and the meeting went ahead as planned. Anyway, I happened to be in the area so decided to go along, more out of curiosity than anything else, but also because I was interested to witness one of these events for myself and see how my own first-hand experience compared with how these things are commonly reported in the 'mainstream' media. So I rocked up shortly before the planned start time for the meeting to find about 150-200 people in all already on the scene. The vast majority of these folk, and I mean vast majority, like all but 10-15 of them, were just everyday, typical, ordinary looking Porty types that you'd walk past on the High Street every single day without batting an eyelid. There were roughly 10 youngsters dressed in black, coverings on their faces, waving placards adorned with pro-trans rights slogans, and a few other 'well kent faces' carrying boards with anti-trans slogans on. So having seen what I wanted to see, I waited around until the meeting finish time had passed, folk started drifting away, and I left and went home. Next day, sure enough, every single newspaper runs with some variation of "200-strong woke mob waving placards, shouting abuse, hounding 'ordinary' people" and so on. Complete and utter keech the lot of it. Anyone who thinks the UK media is portraying anything remotely close to a balanced or nuanced picture of what happens at these things is mistaken. Take this example :- https://www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/news/scottish-news/ugly-scenes-parents-defy-cancel-29459709 The group in the picture are the full extent of who was there that could possibly be described as 'gender warriors', and were the only folk who were being noisy or carrying placards. Where they get "150 protestors" from I have no idea, as the truth was more like 10-15 and the remainder passive onlookers. Also, I didn't witness anything whatsoever that could be described as an 'ugly scene', and I'm also at a loss as to why they feel the need to describe the goings on inside the library as a 'peaceful meeting' unless they are implying that was in contrast to events outside, which is so far removed from reality that it's utterly risible. So yeah, I'd be really wary about the stuff you read in the paper about 'clashes' or certain groups acting in an 'intimidatory' manner, because at this 'protest' and the others I have taken in outside Holyrood, the only thing I've witnessed that anyone could possibly have objected to was some of the utter shite that the Cabaret lot choose to play on the karaoke machine when they are mocking the transphobes via the medium of song and dance.

  28. What concerns me greatly about that is that we lose our second home as well to the SFA. And my justification for that is this. On Saturday, when asked by a club member regarding the prospects of playing at our old ground the response was that they were allowing the Scotland team to prep for the Cyprus match at Lesser as a goodwill gesture. So despite being arse-whacked over the stadium sale because of historic bad contract terms, despite being humped by the contractor due to a poorly defined contract, our 1903 committee still seem to think the best way to do business with the SFA is to smile and buy everyone a drink. The Cyprus agreement should be written, as should everything else that happens between QP and the SFA. Forevermore.

  29. Yeah. Pretty much as we have been for the vast majority of my years as a fan of Arbroath. We have to learn to appreciate the good times as the bad times can be just around the corner as we’ve proved. I hope QP go up and do well, I shudder to think what would have happened to us this season if we went up last year. Our home record this season is particularly horrific: 1 win, 9 points and only 9 goals in 14 games at Gayfield after being practically unbeatable at home last season. No rhyme nor reason to it but once a team lose that confidence and momentum, it’s very difficult to get back. What continues to amaze me is our support - we still had 1500 home fans for a live tv match last Friday when it’s been grim viewing every home game. ETA I knew our away record isn’t bad but was shocked to see that we’re unbeaten in our last 5 away games and have the 2nd best away points tally in the league, next to Ayr, over those 5 games. Perhaps there is some hope on Friday after all.

  30. We almost certainly won't be allowed to "pick and choose" where we play next season. When has any club been allowed to do that, and why do people now suddenly think we will be given that choice? I agree 100% with @PB1994 above in that for next season we announce where we're playing and that's it for the year. And regardless of what league we're in, unfortunately I think I actually would choose Hampden if that was an option. Even if we're in the championship 1000 seats at Lesser is unacceptable, and despite the recent talk of "temporary stands" it's not going to be completed in time for next season. QP once again being reactive rather than proactive, it's not like we've been saying for years now the plans at Lesser are not good enough.

  32. I heard Alan Burrows discuss this a couple of years ago and he mentioned that he knew Motherwell and Aberdeen had fewer home supporters at these games. It doesn't surprise me that St Mirren and St Johnstone are saying this as well. I know a Killie season ticket holder who doesn't go to the OF games with his 2 sons. It is likely that all but maybe Hearts and Hibs are seeing lower crowds for these games. Hearts and Hibs may still sell out as they have a big support and they seem to have few results against these teams (within the last 5years). If you are say a Motherwell fan and haven't won at Ibrox for 29yrs and haven't beat them at Fir park in 58 games and have to listen to their disgusting fan base then no wonder the home crowds are down for these games. There is nothing but misery in it for them. These games are not what football is about for the the non OF fan.

  39. There will be around 100 -150 Arbroath fans attending this match - I doubt any of them would be travelling if they thought the result was a foregone conclusion. Sure, Arbroath have been poor this season, but they are still more than capable of beating Queens - I think this will be a low scoring draw, probably 1-1. If Arbroath lose, the pessimists won’t be disappointed.
