  1. It's maybe better for United to appoint a manager who the fans already hate. It saves time

  6. Unless its an absolute necessity I would keep the kids in free going. If they keep going we''ll get revenue from them for 50 years. Its vital to grow long term support. Don't forget many paying adults go if their kids get in free. I took my two daughters for years as they got in free, which meant I could go (and paid). I also started paying for them beyond 16. We took friends with us, it just snowballs.

  8. I don't know that this is the case with Bartley. Looking at the way he's speaking, about getting players out on loan, changing the overall composition of the squad, assessing players' attitudes and releasing those who aren't ambitious enough, increasing fitness, instituting hydration tests, etc suggests his priority is creating institutional/cultural change rather than just trying to get a quick fix to earn a few points in the league. I'm not convinced the changes he is making could ever lead to the kind of "new manager bounce" we're accustomed to seeing. However, I do think they're more likely to lead to longer term rejuvenation than just coming in, tightening up the defense, making us hard to play against, and all those old cliches. After years of decline and apparent disinterest from the board, I'm excited by the "revolutionary" approach Marvin is taking. I'm also not surprised to see various of the non-conforming players' friends and relatives apparently coming on here to moan. I'm quite willing to accept that results won't immediately improve, given the scale and nature of the changes he's trying to make.

  14. Away fans in away end shocker The main stand is only designed to be split half & half. Not just one section at the end. We sat down that way, near the press area, that night of the QOS game due to the horrendous weather battering our normal seats. The QOS lads were boisterous and that was about it but the majority of home fans down that way aren’t there to be baited or give it back. Which is what the QOS fans wanted. They scored their 2 quick goals which didn’t help the situation & they were jumping over the segregation and “fighting” the stewards which is probably the main reason they’ve been moved I think. As much as the away fans were giving it the big one, they didn’t even make eye contact with the home fans when everyone literally could mingle at HT. Sure Jamie Swinney said it was very little extra cost to the club to open the NS so if that’s the case, treating the home fans better down that end is worth it. Stewards shouldn’t need to get a skelp either.

  24. Today was a lot better. I think I was just overly tired yesterday and I tend to be more emotional when I'm tired. It would be good if there was a magic switch that would fix people's difficulties and make life great for them. Unfortunately there is no magic switch. However listening to people, responding to their needs and preferences and helping them to achieve their goals can go a long way towards achieving positive outcomes for them in the long-term.

  28. But it's been nowhere near a full strength squad. Our (first) bad run, when we lost 5 on the bounce conceding 3 or more per game, was largely precipitated by an injury to Holt. For much of this spell, the injury list wasn't as bad as made out (e.g., the starting line-up in our 4-0 loss to QP had a defence including Milne, Muirhead and McMillan (Brownlie on the bench), and a forward line of Tiff, BG and Lawless (Mullen and Dowds on the bench). The game that started that run (away to Inverness) had much the same starting line-up but with Holt available). Holt has been unavailable the past two games. Holt's replacement on Saturday (Brownlie) was unavailable yesterday. Dools has not been able to name the same centre-back pairing in his 3 games. Against Ayr last week, there was no Graham and Dowds went off after 7 mins. Graham wasn't considered fit enough to start on Saturday. Another McCall favourite (Smith) has also been injured (although many or most would argue that this is to the side's benefit).

  32. And to add to the post above, since three points for a win was introduced (also) in 94/95, the biggest points total we've had after 3/4 of the season is 46 in (also) 94/95. We currently have 50 points with two games to go until the 3/4 mark. Eta Our highest points total for a season is 67 in 08/09.

  35. 117 goals in 136 appearances for Morton. 58 goals in one season. Still the highest total in Scottish senior football in almost a century. A very good manager of Morton for over a decade and very well thought of by those he played alongside and those he managed. And, when you got the chance to speak with him, one of the nicest men in football. He'll be greatly missed at Cappielow and long remembered.

  37. "Putting the best 11 on the pitch" is a very simplistic way of looking at things, though. And partly why McCall is such a bang average manager at this level - he's great at signing players and putting a good 11 on the pitch, but things like situational tactics, style of play and proactive substitutions are areas in which he lacks. Could it not be that Kris Doolan is just better at these things than Ian McCall? Time will tell. Maybe we're just in the midst of a new manager bounce and Doolan will get found out a bit towards the end of the season, but just because he plays the same players as McCall doesn't mean they're going to return similar results over time.

  40. That's the most comfortable a performance I've seen from an away side at Dens in a long time. Probably County when they ran rampant at Dens last season. If Partick Thistle had a bit more about them going forward, I'd argue that they've the best side in the league. Very comfortable passing it about and harrying our soft as shite defence into one of their beloved long ball punts. Well done and fair play.

  41. New Dundas Park for Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic V Forfar Athletic. 1-1 744 in attendance. Ticket £12 patg Programme £2. A battle of a match between the Rose and Forfar. A deserved point for both teams in front of a very good crowd for a Tuesday night. Forfar took the lead with a penalty in a tight contest. Rose had a call for a penalty soon after but the very fussy referee waved play on. Rose saved a point three minutes from time when a free kick was prodded home by number 9. Rose had the ball in the net in injury time but the linesman had his flag up. Enjoyable even.
