  1. Don’t think I like the idea, however I think we should have a one year trial next season just to make sure.

  2. I'm not sure about this new fund raising idea . There's only so many times you can go to the well and you would think it would only take people away from fss if anything. I mean if fans aren't keen to sign up to fss why would they be any keener to sign up for this?

  3. 10/10. Some lottery winning levels of guesswork on display there. Edit: I'm going to start listening to every song I'm not familiar with to see if I'm missing anything. So far, it's not terrible, but certainly not one I'll listen to again. 0/1.

  4. Obviously the "aye but who are the real bigots here eh?" trope is done to death everywhere on the internet rather than just on P&B whenever someone puts their foot in it, as a load of people want to concern troll rather than explicitly admitting they agree with the original piece of bigotry. This is getting especially ridiculous though. What we're essentially dealing with here is the following. Politician: This is what I think about Issue X and here's my view on legislating about it Voter A - I disagree with this politician's view on Issue X and I feel strongly enough about this single issue that I'll never vote for this person Voter B - I disagree with this politician's view on Issue X and while I could disregard it in a local MSP, I wouldn't vote for them to run the country or a party Voter C - I disagree with this politician's view on Issue X and while this single issue alone isn't enough to stop me voting for them, combined with their views on Issues Y and Z I wouldn't vote for them Voter D - I disagree with this politician's view on Issue X and while it isn't going to stop me voting for them, I will challenge the view I disagree with. Then you have Voters E-Z covering a range of views from people who are undecided on Issue X, people who could not give the slightest shit about Issue X, right through to the people who vehemently agree with the politician on Issue X and would never vote for someone who disagrees, basically the polar opposite of Voter A. What we're being asked to believe here is that the only explanation for Voters A-D holding their stances is that they are intolerant and can't deal with any viewpoint differing to theirs, while Voters E-Z are the mature tolerant adults in the room. In reality these are simply the considerations taken into account by voters on a range of issues in literally every election which ever happens. If this was a Conservative leadership election and Issue X was taxation rates with the politician's stance being that there should a top rate of 98%, no one would be shocked at the intolerance of Voters A-D for disagreeing. If it was a Scottish Labour leadership election and the issue was supporting Scottish independence, no one would be shocked at the reaction of Voters A-D. If it was a Lib Dem election and the issue was Capital Punishment, etc. If it turns out enough SNP members disagree with Kate Forbes on various issues then she won't win the leadership election. This is simply how politics works.

  5. It's an odd rationale that you'd want to contribute to one and not the other. All the clubs efforts should be focussed on helping the FSS to grow not spreading the cash between various initiatives.

  6. There is a little negativity regarding what the FSS is achieving. There is no doubt there’s the potential for growth and hopefully tonight’s message by the board will help facilitate this. It’s easy to look at Motherwell and say because they have 3500 members of the Well Society, FSS is failing with its 640 membership. That’s not the case. Of the membership Motherwell have 700 kids paying £25/£20 per year. They also have a £5 subscription option so their average payment is around £3.7/member whereas Falkirk’s is currently about £12/member. That’s not to forget that FSS is just over a year old. In short, Well society’s average contributions/month are £13,000 and at present, the FSS are just under £7,800 so 425 more members paying an average £12 and they’ll be where WS are. That isn’t quite as unachievable as has been interpreted. I’m not sure this will fill the financial gap but it will definitely make a huge help and make the FSS, the biggest contributing organisation outside of the top 6 clubs. The FSS have gained 25 members since the turn of the year. That’s a decent growth but we need it to be faster to help the club succeed. This will require everyone’s help to get more members on board.

  8. That’s not an old leadership analogy that was ever applied to WWI. You’re thinking of “lions led by donkeys”. Or perhaps not. Perhaps you are actually thinking of “donkeys led by asses”. I wonder where that came from? I can only find it having been coined in the context of pallet-burning, swivel-eyed UK nationalism by Northern Ireland’s own David Vance (once banned from Twitter for sending “hateful” content to Marcus Rashford). You really can’t help yourself, can you? https://m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/a-case-of-donkeys-led-by-asses/28143711.html

  14. Dont really have an issue with a few games a season being on Fridays, actually quite like them as a supporter. I am not sure its even remotely fair for us to have 4 games across March all on Fridays though, piss poor scheduling which could have been avoided.

  20. Poll of SNP supporters puts Forbes ahead in race to be next first minister (msn.com) But I thought the party and world were all going to hate her for daring to believe in traditional marriage? And they all post on the politics section of Pie & Bovril.

  25. I'm not sure who's the best value for first goalscorer tonight, I'm torn between backing Brad Young or Logan Chalmers at 15/2 or wondering if David Goodwillie is maybe the safer bet at 11/2 ?? Decisions, decisions.......

  26. Seems a very odd proposition and likely aimed at going to the well a second (or third) time with the same people. I certainly don't think I'll be adding a second direct debit on top of FSS and the actual cost of supporting a football team like tickets, strips etc. I agree with the general consensus that they should focus these efforts through (not in addition to) the FSS.

  29. Fan ownership will never work at our club? Don’t agree with that at all. These schemes take years and years to get to desired membership. It’s barely been a year? And the memberhsip is currently (slowishly) increasing? Would be a mental time to give it up.

  37. Lots to digest from the AGM and thanks to all sources for their updates and views. I think we can all agree that the recent improvements across the club are commendable and on the pitch we look like we've got our act together. @Van_damage is also correct to say that the FSS is succeeding - the other groups that appear to have been cited at the AGM have been around for longer and we have 2/3 of Morton's in a shorter time - but because of the clubs perilous position the continued message appears to be that the fans need to do more! There is a danger, in my view, that the club is creating a hidden cost of supporting Falkirk over-and-above the matchday price. In KJ's clumsy announcement he did create an unnecessary "us and them" narrative. I appreciate the message is to only give what you can but every statement decrying the current FSS uptake creates more pressure on those who can't (or contributing their limit) to perhaps exceed that. As for the "lukewarm" action off the back of that statement and subsequent explanation I will paraphrase KJ: The club couldn't pick the right time ... and I'm afraid the fan's can't either. The club unfortunately found itself in the eye of the perfect storm.

  38. The homegenisation of towns and cities is sad. Every town/city is now first/stagecoach buses in the same colours, not the Glasgow white/green/orange, Ayrshire had AA in green and A1 in blue and the different areas had Lothian, Eastern, Tayside, Northern, Clydesdale etc all in own colours. Every main street now is a walk past Greggs, McDs, Primark, Starbucks and identically boring Every cinema is an identical Vue or Cineworld Used to see a city or town and it looked unique, Everywhere becoming boringly identical.

  40. Last Saturday was one of the few times recently when both OF teams were playing at 3pm. before I switched on to Sportsound I had already worked out that most of the 2-3pm hour would be spent talking about them, but even I was flabbergasted by just how much time they gave to it. Maybe I'm just imagining it, but it seems to me that this focus on the OF has got even worse since Richard Gordon left. Having Richard on the Sunday and midweek shows is cruel and unusual punishment - just reminding us of what we are missing on a Saturday. When he left, I begged and begged the BBC to find someone - anyone- else other than Kenny Macintyre, but his appointment was so predictable. He doesn't control the pundits, so discussion on Open All Mics descends into a stramash, with each of them desperate to get their oar in on any given topic. Macintyre is also very keen to create controversy by asking questions of guests in a very combative way. RG often got as much - or more - information from guests by treating them with respect and eliciting answers in a gentle way. We're all aware of which team each pundit supports, but that doesn't excuse laziness, such as not knowing the names of the players in the visiting team (e.g. Pat Bonner). I don't mind them having a bit of banter with each other (Miller and Preston), but Michael Stewart needs to get over himself and realise that his opinion on the topic under discussion is just that - an opinion - and not a fact that needs to be hammered into the skulls of the others. I don't think I need to conclude by saying that the programme has gone downhill since an extremely able and genial presenter was replaced by someone much less able who seems to think that combativeness and controversy makes for good radio.

  41. Is it legal / allowable / do-able for FSS to top and tail the Falkirk TV videos on YouTube with an appeal for members? The highlights videos get somewhere between 2.7k and 4.5k views and assuming that 1/3 of those aren't Falkirk fans that still means 1.5k - 2.5k potential new members for the FSS.
