  4. Magnificent weather. Pubs shut, golf courses shut, everything bar supermarkets shut and my dog getting a terminal diagnosis. Had a really great time with him but equally all the time thinking ‘if this is what retirement looks like you can fcuking keep it’. Felt like a total outlaw by going out for more than an hour at a time to walk the legs off us both with no one, not a soul, about and getting a magnificent tan in the process Loved my boy. He made it to 2yrs 9 months. (and no, it wasn’t the covid that got him).

  5. We'd all be speaking German if it wasn't for Hearts. Single-handedly winning a world war trumps any association football trophy I'm afraid.

  8. Congratulations on being good before 1906 and in the 1950s - you must remember it fondly. Hibs have won more in my Dad’s 59 year lifetime. The same number in my 35 year lifetime. The same number in my 16 year old cousins lifetime. And more in my made up 11 year old nephew’s lifetime. Basically to have actually experienced Hearts win more than Hibs, you have to be part of an exclusive 15 year age range of 17-32, or be 60+ and basically dead. That’s pretty poor considering all the tens of millions that have been taken and squandered from Lithuanian peasants, Gorgie businesses, and from young Hearts fans inheritances in that time. Bit of a riddy in fact.

  13. Hi folks, I knew nowt of this thread until this morning. To be honest I usually only post with comments regarding all things Dundee FC. Our world changed direction for the worst on Saturday when our beautiful companion, a fourteen and a half year old Shih Tzu named Bailey died after a short illness with a quite aggressive cancer Lymphona. Such a gentle personality, beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside, difficult to measure or explain the grief we are experiencing. Anyway, felt the need to celebrate her by posting a few snaps as reading the posts on here really brightened my day. Thank you for reading, all the best.

  14. Sad to hear about Billy T lads, a cracking keeper for you guys and the DABs. Condolences to his family and all at St Mirren

  15. Really sad news about Billy Thomson. He was a great keeper

  16. I see Billy Thomson has sadly passed away. Obviously better known for his St Mirren and Tannadice spells, but he played a few games for us in the mid-90s, most memorably in a Coca Cola Cup tie at Tannadice where after spilling an easy shot to concede the opener, produced a series of absolutely ridiculous saves to keep us in the tie, then a couple to win the penalty shoot-out. RIP

  19. Airdrie play the pars twice in a row. If they win both games then lead is down to 4. So the chance is there for us if they still harbour ambitions of the league. I support any comment that disagrees with the whole “right way to play football”. There is no right way. The only right way is the one that wins you games. As much as being attacking is a good thing, the art of defence is also a key part of football. That being said, I saw the pars against montrose earlier in the season and you were stinking. Airdrie to win 6-0 and section B to knock out a few disabled pars fans out their wheelchairs

  20. January was really frustrating because anytime there was some decent weather, I couldn't get out and when I could get out MWIS was all 100mph Winds, Arduous, Severe Windchill and 0% chance of a view - so I was amazed that there was some actual decent weather this weekend. I decided that if I was going to use a tank of diesel this weekend, I would be as well spending it on something I'd enjoy, so Assynt 1, Motherwell 0. I decided to climb Canisp as it's one most people don't do as there is always something better nearby - but it probably is in the best position to see all the other classic mountains round here. A drive up in pish weather on Saturday and a van kip at Knockan Crag later and I was wandering across the moors just as it got light. I forgot how deserted this part of Scotland is outside of NC500 season as I saw no-one and hardly even a car north of Ullapool. When you hit the ridge on Canisp, the view opens right up. Suilven, Cul Mor, Stac Pollaidh and Sgurr an Fhidleir were all looking stunning - although there was less snow than I was expecting. An Teallach from the north looked very snowy and I assume it was getting battered by the wind as there was almost a powdery mist in it's Corries. Suilven is the main attraction as you feel you can touch it from here -I'll need to do another return visit soon. Really good walk and even though it broke my rule that the walk should be longer than the drive, it was well worth it.

  26. When you think about it, you could write a book or have a documentary made about all the stuff that's gone wrong this season for us. There's probably more but the standouts: 1. We qualify for Europe with only 3 wins in 17 games and a goal difference ranked 10th in the division. 2. We bring out a kit commemorating a design we wore in a previous relegation. 3. We strip SOD of being the captain, but try to sweep it under the carpet by not announcing it all. 4. We only play two friendlies in preparation for our European campaign. 5. We get beaten home and away by a LOI team and bin our manager. 6. We lose Jake Carroll to injury for the season, the day before the league campaign starts (I know some may make a case for this not having much of an effect) 7. We start the league campaign with a caretaker manager. 8. We publicly declare that we want to sign Robert Snodgrass and allow Hearts to snoop in and offer him more than we did. 9. We bring back two former players on loan as marquee signings, both of whom end up crocked after one start between them. 10. Having barely been able to fill the squad, the World Cup break comes at a great time for us, only for us to have a month off and return with more injuries. 11. The pipes bursting in the stadium preventing us from playing our first game back after the World Cup. 12. Finally playing again the following week and taking a two goal lead, then conceding a late equaliser to a disgruntled former player after Killie had gone down to 10 men at 2-0. 13. Signing a player to replace one of the aforementioned crocked marquee signings, only for he himself to be crocked after one start. 14. The CEO resigning 15. Playing a back four with three right backs in it for most of the first half against St. Johnstone. That all does seem like the perfect storm for a season with a bad ending.

  28. Ultimately our closing of the academy, the reason for it, and what we did next were completely different to Brentford. We were quoted of using ‘the Brentford model’ but it couldn’t be further from that. Whilst the Bees used pioneering data to find players, we used an agent called Richard Mitchell who chucked any old English player at us. At Scottish second tier level I’m not sure of how much data like Brentford’s would help attract players from further afield, who knows. Brentford were investing a lot of cash in their academy only for their players to get picked off at a youngish age for a relatively short sum of cash. Can’t say this was the case with us, more that we were having to sell a player every season to balance the books of it, which wasn’t sustainable. The idea of having more money to put towards the first team was a wise one, what we did with it was a shambles. What was also a shambles was how it was communicated to players and their families, and then when offered external funding to keep it going, it was rejected by the club. Falkirk and Brentford are labelled together when it comes to closing their academies but really the two stories are very different and the clubs have said opposite effects since doing so.

  29. Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 Liverpool @ Molineux Stadium . The home side got off to a flyer, 2-0 up after 12 mins and then end Liverpool’s attempts to find a way back with a third goal 19 mins from time. Great 3 points for Wolves who continue to pull away from trouble. A terrible Premier League season for the Reds continues. Crowd 31,664.

  30. Why are Premiership teams competing to qualify for next season's Championship then?

  31. The playing group needs to be distinguished from that though. Nothing amateur about their achievements.

  32. Yeah checked it. One match ban in specific competition so sent off in league, served in league. Only violent conduct, serious foul play or spitting at an opponent or official cross competitions to be served in next game .

  33. All to do with the change in stature of the club. The academy was closed because being a League 1/Championship side in London meant the top talents would inevitably be picked off. Now they're a Premiership side, with the funding that brings it makes sense to have an academy.

  35. I've found out why Jamestown protested Vale of Leven Hibs in 1888 - the previous year's tie had been somewhat contentious...Jamestown won 3-2, the game was replayed (twice) after a Hibs protest about rough play, and, after Jamestown finally got through, there was an outbreak of rowdyism that night...
