  1. Slightly off course, but thought McKay has been a different player in last few games, and after giving the guy a seriously hard time, don’t mind taking some humble pie.

  5. 38/42: Inverness Caledonian Thistle 2-2 Greenock Morton, Championship, 4/2/2023 My trip to ICT brings down the curtain on my first completed division of the season, as I chalk up the last remaining Championship club on the list. Attempts to buy a ticket through ICT's website were abandoned after it wouldn't let me access the payment page, and since nobody was answering the phone in their shop (shut, it seems), I missed out on the early-bird price, costing me TWO QUID! So, in a fit of pique I decided to sit in the away end with the Morton fans. A noisy bunch who seemed to enjoy their day out. A great shot from Calvin Miller put them ahead early on, and Morton deserved their lead for a composed start. ICT came into it, and Doran fumbled a good chance to equalise when one-on-one, and Mackay could have scored too. The equaliser didn't come till after half-time, Mackay scoring on the rebound from close range. But Muirhead put Morton back in front after some catastrophic home defending, and they looked on for a great three points and a move into the play-off places. They switched off at the back though, and Cairns punished them with a good finish to make it 2-2 and a share of the points. This was a pretty decent game. Both sides had a go at winning it, and I found the 90 flew by quite quickly. Chicken curry pies were excellent. So, that's my first division finished, and my last big trip of the season done. A hint of sadness about that, but the end is now in sight. Edinburgh, Celtic, Dunfermline, and Stenny still to go. The ten Championship grounds saw me take in league games as well as matches in the Scottish Cup and Challenge Cup. The eight Championship games cost me an average of just over 20 quid each.

  7. Having two adaptable & highly competent full backs is a major factor in grinding out results like yesterday. They both put in a tremendous shift before & especially after Kennedy and Morrison went off. All that was missing was one of them running over to Potters dugout, whipping off their top to reveal Andy Lawrie's face on a t-shirt. f**k you, Potter.

  8. I've made peace with getting relegated. For a club our size, it's an inevitability at some stage and in our 37 years up here, bigger clubs than us have been relegated multiple times. There's obviously no guarantee we'd come straight back up, so my biggest gripe is probably that, being too young to remember 1991, that every man and their dug has won a trophy since then and I've still not seen us lift one. Personally, I've become very apathetic towards it all and as much as I'm obviously still interested, I can feel myself regressing into an armchair fan and properly have to motivate myself to go out to games. Being entertained by a Motherwell team has been very scarce since probably around January 2020. There's absolutely nothing about this team. No leaders, no characters, no dig, no players who seem that arsed. I just find it sad that it's the man who's played the most games for us in this top flight era that's potentially going to take us out of it. Hammell is one of my all time favourite players and I can't help but think for everyone's sake, he just needs to be put out of his misery. I'm like a broken record with this, but I honestly can't believe he gave up a secure job in the academy for this.

  11. Cambuslang Rangers 3-2 Arthurlie A spectacular first half in which the visitors took an early lead, but the hosts scored 2 to take the lead, Arthurlie equalised again but the hosts took the lead once again late on in the first half. As often with a spectacular first half, the second half was a lot less spectacular. The hosts defended well to get their much needed win over the line. They never looked like a side that's rock bottom. The ground is absolutely lovely.

  13. Newburgh 1 Edinburgh United 4 East Shore Park is one of the more picturesque grounds in the East. It was fairly end to end stuff in the first half, and Newburgh took the lead. The visitors from the Capital got better in the second half and were helped by a Newburgh player receiving a second yellow for a late, high, tackle. 4-1 was a bit flattering for the visitors but after a run of bad results they'll take it. Programme £2.00 Badge £4.00 Decent steak pie too.

  21. Just over a year ago we played Celtic at home in that ridiculous game where there only about 400 fans allowed in. I think we lost 2-1. That day we were a disgrace, just absolutely abject and scored from nowhere on one of our very few forays forward. We may have lost more heavily today but I was pleased with our approach and on another day the scoreline is far closer. At the end of the day Celtic have scored four goals from four shots on target. We probably put the ball into the Celtic box far more than we have in any game in the last five years. I would observe that today did highlight the issue of a Celtic loanee being a main fixture in your defence - in that we had to bring in a guy who has barely played all season at left back up against Jota, and its maybe unsurprising we lose a couple of goals down that side. That said, the way he spins in behind is so difficult to deal with. Felt we tried to get the ball down and play pretty well, and once again Dan Phillips was excellent. Rarely wasted the ball, strong and composed. We need to be talking new contract for him if we at all can and looking to build round him for next season. Thought Brown looked decent in a position that definitely suits him, with good performances from Wright and McLennan as well. That's our pre-split games against the Old Firm gone now - we need to produce at a good level for the next half dozen games and we can get ourselves right out of any talk of relegation.

  30. Friday was magic by the way, I thought everything went perfect from a QP perspective. The new lad Oakley looked very good and Davidson offered an assist basically. Squad depth is always nice. That probably did Davidson good because Dundee away was a tough one for him. Also buzzing with Shields debut. That’s a like for like replacement for Murray. Someone with legs and energy to buzz about up top as a lone striker and allow the other 3 attackers time to support. Ayr offered nothing for long spells. Very direct to Akinyemi but Fox and Kilday were magic, AGAIN. That partnership is so strong. It was interesting to see the team complexion with our starter striker sold but honestly we looked as good, if not better, than usual. I have no fears now with the 3 January signings, we’re maybe stronger which sounds daft after losing the lead goal scorer. Coyle and the boys putting on the style as per usual.

  33. I know it is tongue in cheek but I’ve seen a few Arbroath fans mention the year you won the League 1 title as if it was some sort of close back and forth battle. You won it by a mile and we didn’t even finish 2nd! We then went up the following season so I’m sure no Rovers fan holds any grudges over that. I can’t for the life of me think why there would be any ‘rivalry’ between the Rovers and Arbroath. With the greatest respect, despite their incredible recent turnaround, Arbroath have been irrelevant to me as a Rovers supporter for most of my life and I can’t remember any season where we have finished close to each other or been in similar battles (unlike Ayr United where for a while it seemed every year we were battling with them for position in League One or the Championship). I think you can just put it down to two teams relatively close together, easy to get to, lots of good pubs meaning we bring a decent crowd which contains a few drunk groups and you’re always going to get the odd idiot. I doubt it’s anything personal. It also works both ways, I remember we had to stop putting Arbroath fans in the main stand in the Barry Smith season because a few idiots got wound up to the point of wanting to fight some Rovers fans who were laughing at them which I don’t think I’ve ever seen before in that stand.

  34. That first touch from Burrell for his goal is absolutely filthy. I'm firmly in the keep bringing him on with 30 minutes to go camp, it's very harsh on him considering how well he's doing but he doesn't look as lively when he starts games and he's not suited as a lone striker. When he does start games because of the running he does he never looks like making it past the 60th minute. What can't continue to happen though is Gary Oliver upfront, get Jordan Allan up there pronto. PJ Morrison proving himself to be the cat we all knew he was is stupendous too.

  35. Yes, new blood is needed but I hope the collapse over the last 12 months doesn't colour all of Burrows' reign. We have been exceptionally well run for years and dismissing that now due to recency bias would be a real shame and absurdly unfair.

  41. It's interesting to see where Arbroath go from here to be honest. From a purely outside perspective, I've always thought the Campbells achieved success with Arbroath largely down to a unit of players who had played together for years, as well as bringing in best part time players in Scotland. Of course, add some very good loan signings to that. They didn't look like a team yesterday, just a random collection of signings who may well be talented enough, but showed no cohesion at all.

  42. Think of myself as reasonably fair minded and can usually see when an opposition team feels hard done by, but simply don’t accept this simulation pish at all. Rovers players were going down because for most of the game Arbroath were the more physical team and fouling more. The final stats show they committed twice the number of fouls. It was only in the last third of the game we matched them physically. We’ve not had a diver in our side since Dario Zanatta left. The only two incidents where I thought any Rovers players could even be accused of making a slight meal of it was one where Gullane stayed down looking for a foul after a fairly robust but fair challenge in the middle of the park and the Millen incident early when the boy squared up with his head, but even in that both players were equally at it and both got rightly booked. Neither of these were anything out of the ordinary, but from reading this thread you’d think Rovers players were throwing themselves down at every opportunity. It’s a bizarre take and can only put it down to the pressure of being down in a play off spot. Anyway, hope Arbroath stay up. It’s a great place to watch football and a great away day.

  43. I have been contemplating putting this out their due to the usual comments that it would get. But I’m going to risk it anyway and take the hit. About 6 months ago, I got a new next door neighbour. Current Well player, from down south. Absolutely lovely guy, just a genuine nice guy. Down to earth and no airs and shits about him. Have become quite good mates with him and despite my previous attempts he doesn’t usually talk much about the club. Wee bits here and there. Rest of the neighbours are **** and Tim’s so they don’t care who he is . However this week he did say a few things. He came home from training the other day and was out with his dog, I asked ‘hard session today’. He laughed and exact words ‘never a hard session mate’. I looked at him and laughed. He then said basically training it’s an utter shambles, no one has a clue what the f**k is going on. Basically he has seen better organisation at the juniors or as he put it non league teams. Utterly amateurish with little emphasis on the graft in the game. He genuinely seemed gutted about it all. Hammell is not respected by the players and seemingly his ego is out of control. Big split amongst the players which has resulted in Burrows being approached bye multiple senior players. Burrows is a rabbit in the headlights and doesn’t have a clue what to do. Kerr is stuck in the middle and can’t bridge the gap with players and managers. However there is a big split with Kerr over something that happened with Barry Maguire, no clue what. He didn’t elaborate. Sounds pretty far fetched until you watch our team and it all makes sense tbh. We are an utterly divided team from top to bottom. Rudderless off and on the pitch.

  44. Hamilton scored a worldy with their only shot on target, their keeper pulls 4 excellent saves, the ball doesn’t land to one of our players in the scramble in the 6 yard box, Mulligan missed a sitter and we’ve dominated that game from around the 15 minute mark to the end. One of those days, we move on. Disappointed with the starting line up tbh and McCowan shouldn’t have been subbied as he was tearing the fullback apart. Not a disaster.

  45. Back in Scotland. And my original plan today was to head up to Elgin to tick borough Briggs off. But I arrived back home at quarter to one in the morning and was I f*** getting up early to travel the length of the country as I was very tired. So I had a choice of matches in the East of Scotland league and South challenge cup close to home. I chose a trip to Millfield to see Haddington Athletic V Penicuik Athletic. A decent if very competitive game. Penicuik took an early lead and almost made it 2-0 in the first half but the offside flag went up. Haddington really should've been down to 10 when number 9 stamped on his opponent, but the linesman and referee missed it as play raged on. The home side fought back and got their way into the game. They managed to get an equaliser in the second half. It was Penicuik though who went down to 10 men when their caption managed to take out two Haddington players and also injure his arm in the process. He'd already been booked so a second meant an early bath to add insult to injury. Haddington then dominated the rest of the game and had a late goal chalked off for offside. I was in line and he was at least a yard onside. So the home team can feel hard done by at not getting the three points. A good game with approx 200 fans. £7 to get in. £2 programme and £1 for half time draw

  46. Hardly a surprise that the breaking news in Teuchterdom is hopelessly out of date: you only heard about Dundee's Scottish Cup win last week after all. Morton are a debt-free, fan-owned football club, with a substantial financial boost from external sponsors. I hope that we use that wisely rather than spunking it on utter shite, but financial distress is not a current concern. Inverness by contrast have been haemorrhaging the best part of half a million pounds per year at this level, couldn't justify opening more than one stand earlier this week and have Scott 'Titanic' Gardiner running the ship. We can afford to take a point today to see you out the door in the near future then.
