  1. All the best to Ethan down at Lincoln. He has been putting on a St Mirren shirt since he was 5 years old going through all the age groups before making 100 appearances for the first team. Very, very rare. If the academy can keep on producing Ethan Erhahons then we'll be in a good place.

  2. My personal view: Let's be realistic. From a standing start we have 630 people paying into FSS at least £10 a month. THAT IS PRETTY AMAZING and it is NOT a failure. To expect 1200 or more to join up within 18 months is to my mind not realistic. With the exception of Hearts, none of the other fan organisations are doing better than 50% of their season ticket holders giving additional donations. Fans want fan ownership but let's not see a success story be re-scripted as failure or lack of desire. The important thing is long term steady growth and keeping those already paying in on board. To try to accelerate membership growth beyond what is actually feasible will damage the project. There are issues with fan ownership - that we see now in these accounts - mainly when money injection is needed the fans can't raise enough quickly enough but this is a known issue (I organised a one day seminar on The Future of Scottish Football back in 1999 for the John Wheatley centre and this was identified then as the biggest problem with fan ownership). It does not mean that fan ownership cannot happen especially if you want a fan ownership that is not a majority of shareholders but a significant proportion. Football is a stupid industry - it is a "sugar daddy" industry because it has relied on investment from individuals who do not usually seek to regain their investment. But it should not be like that. The whole of football needs to be rebalanced but because there are always people willing to bail out clubs far bigger than ours then the model keeps being dominant. If other clubs had to live within their means then all of football would have to create sane budgets and stop the ever increasing wage and transfer bills. FSS is a huge success story even when compared with other such organisations and I am fed being told it is under performing.

  3. Just to add, I know there are people on here at varying levels of involvement and #ITK around the club, and that's fine, plenty times it's good to read the perspective of folk who are at least somewhat inside of it, but I personally think the remit of a discussion board is exceeded somewhat when discussion turns to folks jobs, salaries etc and directly questioning, or inferring, whether we need to employ these folk. They might be on here, or their families might be.

  7. The club made an operating loss of 1.2 million in the previous year! I actually think getting that down to 400k in the space of 6 months while still being able to fund a decent side on the park is quite good going. Hopefully that improvement continues and they have ideas and strategy to continue to grow our income, simply cutting the playing budget is to simplistic and will actually only make the problem worse, if there is a lack of product on the park it drives turnover down, discourages sponsorship, hospitality and crowd numbers inevitably drop. We need to be creative and find a way to close the funding gap that isn’t simply cut cut cut. If we are not competitive on the park the whole business model collapses.

  12. In the car on the way home from Aberdeen. We ended up strolling that after a nervy first 15 minutes, very similar to Friday. Cove are rotten, and I really hope they get relegated. Tinpot club, tinpot ground, and players moaning at every single decision. McKenzie’s goal was a scrappy finish after a good breakaway from Dipo. Ended up 3 on 2, and McKenzie slotted it home. Dipo scored a tap in after a lovely bit of play from Dempsey, and Ashford finally got his goal after missing a right good chance earlier. All in all, a very comfortable display. We never really had to get out of 2nd gear in the 2nd half. Bangala did grow into the game, but I really don’t think he’s cut out for it at this level. Yes he could pass the ball, and he did put in a couple crosses, but he struggles to read the game, and he can’t tackle. McKenzie was excellent in the 2nd half, and it was great to see the two young boys get on. Alex Kirk was superb, so composed on the ball and can quickly pick out a pass further up the park. Really looking forward to Friday now, and what an opportunity for a place in the QF…

  13. I blame Goodwin for Reid's lack of progress into the first team. He begged the boy to stay by dangling the carrot of first team football, then proceeded to bomb almost completely. The boy is obviously talented and the best of luck to him. Erhahon is a big blow. SR clearly got a reaction out of him, something Goodwin clearly failed at. Ethan has been outstanding - barring his ridicvulous red card at Rugby Park - in most games this season and will be hard to replace. I like Gogic. He's solid and dependable. But can we stop comparing him to Erhahon? Yes, they occupy the same area on the pitch, but they are two totally different players. Gogic is a ball winner/spoiler type and Erhahon is much more of a deep lying playmaker. For me, we need a stiker, a centre mid and a left back today.

  16. I've seen people claim that our number of members is embarrassing and I really don't get it at all. Over 600 people when it's just starting up is incredible, especially considering where we currently are. I'm signing up after work

  19. Have MR and SA got everything right? Of course not, and they have been deservedly criticised for that at times. However, I am 100% convinced that they have taken every decision in what they saw at the time as the best interests of Falkirk Football Club. Some of the abuse they have been subject to over the years though has been totally beyond the pale for individuals who have contributed countless hours and hundreds of thousands of pounds to the club.

  20. According to the guy that does the Livi press, Mullin was ‘unofficially’ recalled. It was pretty much just about getting his wage away on our end. Glad it’s worked out well for everyone involved though, good luck for the season lads!

  35. I had a look at the website. The MSO is part time and does a job which is a requirement for every football club if they want a licence to play in the SPFL. SLO is voluntary, or at least I assume so given the current incumbents previous history as a volunteer. In the past this role was sometimes tacked onto the job descriptions of permanent staff or directors. It's another role which I'm sure is a requirement of the SPFL. DAO is the same. Almost certainly voluntary and needed for our licence. Ditto safeguarding. The current incumbent has been a volunteer since he was the matchday announcer back at Brockville. And as a fan director, I think can safely assume Keith Gourlay is also a volunteer. So in reality of the five staff listed under operations we have one part-time employee. As for the shop, yes there are two people work who there. One is definitely part time; I'm not sure about the other. They're legally entitled to time off so I don't think two is excessive as you always need cover. Every single one of them is a Falkirk fan who, if paid, probably does far more than they get paid for. The only other employees to my knowledge are the groundstaff. For that reason I don't think there are any savings to be made from staff cuts. There are actually less paid staff now than there used to be, with two instead of three in Commercial and Finance outsourced.

  41. I can't believe how much they get pandered to. Arbroath are a part time club in a relegation scramble. Playing on Friday nights completely ruins our schedule, with our players having to work etc. Why should we be put at a disadvantage because Queens are taking 20 years to build a giant hospitality box with a pitch attached?
