  1. If we’re going all in with the faults of where we are now, allow me to add my own with the airing of the grievances. It’s hardly a surprise we are where we are with this team when you step back and look at it. It’s an almost identical first team than we had last year when we did not win a single league game between Boxing Day and April 2nd. This year, we are on our second long run with poor results one league win between 20/08 and 29/10 and that folks was the last time we won a league game. Two league wins in 18 (EIGHTEEN) games. The only reason we are not absolutely cut adrift is because we have picked up a fair few draws in the second part of this horrendous run - that is sackable form in anyone’s book and the only reason Hammell is still in the job is that the he got off to a good start so built up even more goodwill with the fans and the board know they made a rip roaring c**t of it in the summer. Since Alexander came in, how many of the players we have in our squad have progressed under either him or Hammell? Arguably Efford but we need more data to know if that is a purple patch or genuine progression meanwhile we’ve seen huge regression at worst (Kelly, SOD and getting close to adding slattery to this) or players playing at or below the level required. We have a team of players in a starting XI especially who would genuinely not got near starting for any other top flight team- Lamie should be in the championship with Dundee, McGinn should be on the bench alongside SOD, we don’t have a left back and Blaney is still new. I’m not going to go near the midfield as it’s been done to death revtheir flaws, all I’ll add is that there is surely a reason why teams with Blair Spittal as a key component in them are always in or around the relegation zone. Up front we have Shields who is not near the required standard, McKinstry who is an absolute project but one I’m not particularly enjoying other than the odd glimpse, he is so one footed it’s not real and van Veen who is clearly not 100% fit and even when he is goes games without doing anything. Kelly should be dropped if nothing more than to give him a boot up the arse and maybe focus the minds of the idiots infront of him but given how much we have invested in him it’s not going to happen. The club made an arse of the Alexander situation and didn’t press the reset button early enough with him and compounded this by then not backing him in the summer (Josh fucking Morris) and are arguably making the same mistake with Hammell although they seem to be at least backing him to sign some players but I’m hugely concerned he’s signing entirely the wrong type. We need help all over the park but he only seems to be addressing the attacking options - now perhaps there is a new brick wall centre half waiting in the wings, a competent left back and a ball winning scrappy centre mid alongside him but we seem to be focussing on attackers and *shudder* players who can play across the front three and I’m not sure that is what is going to fix our woes and keep us in the division this year we only have to look at County yesterday to start to worry that this is the start of their traditional mental post Christmas run when they motor up the table. My main concern with our management team and coaches is that they seem wed to playing the same players in the same roles and expecting different results, now who knows if that was about to change yesterday going by Hammell’s comments in that he had planned a front 2 with KVV and Mandron but the fact he then chucked that entirely out the window and went back to Shields gives me the absolute fear that he really is unable to think outside the box and offer us anything other than the same old pish and the same old sob stories week after week until we get flushed sometime in early April. The next 4 days are going to determine our season and probably the next five years one way or the other. We need to get it right on and off the park, at player, coaching and board level. I’m not sure right now I have faith in any of them to get it done.

  6. Been covered before on other threads, the kit is to highlight and raise awareness of the clubs 'Darkness to Light' mental health campaign. I'm not particularly a fan of the design, but I'll give them a pass on it for the message it conveys and stellar work they do in the local community in mental health and suicide issues. Any profits from sales go straight to funding help for those who need it.

  11. Of course there are - right from the start I don't think the LL has been the strongest group of non-league sides south of the Tay. That being said, it was never a case of joining the thing by invite...it was by application, and very few of the strongest non-league sides applied initially, partly because of the stalling tactics of the SJFA who were assuring clubs year after year that progress was being made when in reality it wasn't at all and they were hoping the whole issue would go away and they could carry on as they always had. Another important factor was that the set-up of the LL favoured new-build startup clubs who had very little to lose if the whole thing went tits up...in the west due to the lack of a pre-existing alternative senior league an East Kilbride or BSC could go all-in in the way that a long-standing club couldn't, especially considering the fact that anyone who jumped ship was being unequivocally told they'd need to start from scratch if they ever came back. The whole debacle has set the west of the country back a good five years behind the east. As for Tranent, they're a senior club who has elected to retain the word Junior in their name as a nod to their past...nothing more, nothing less. It's similar in the WOS league; some have kept the "Junior" in the name of the club, while others have ditched it and yet others never had it in their club name at all. Hamilton have chosen to keep "Academical" in their name for similar reasons, but they're as much a school team these days as Tranent are a junior one.

  14. tbh this thread is coming at a funny time, its something that's weighed on me increasingly over the last few weeks. in a few months ill be the same age my fiancee Amanda was when she was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer, and she only survived for 2 years after the diagnosis. it wasnt exactly pretty to watch but they just hit her with increasingly strong doses of morphine and valium towards the end. I'll try to deal with it the same way she did; one of the last times she spoke to me and her family in the weeks before she died she literally said "Ok. So I'll be dead soon. Woohoo! *two thumbs up*". i get what you mean and in theory the closest approximation or refernce point we have is a deep sleep, although even at that we dream, but my consciousness will eventually just... end. *metallica guitar riff* and time marches on, on, on, on. i guess we might not ever get to have a single point of consciousness again? i like the thought of getting to see amanda/amanda's spooky ghost spirit at some point, so maybe Time And The Universe will do some cool unravelling and unfolding thing where I get to live almost the exact same life again in, oh, lets just say 400 billion years, but this time around there'll be a weird memory that makes me drag her to the A&E in enough time for it to make a difference, or better yet her body remembers and does some fancy DNA repairs to itself that stop it happening altogether. (note to self: put money into bitcoin while its affordable and cash out as soon as Elon Musk gets involved.) Whatever the case, Amanda knows what happens now, one way or another. Or she doesn't know, which is fine too, I suppose. I'll find out too, someday. at no point have i ever hit full on suicidal thoughts (and given the subject matter i would STRONGLY ADVISE giving the samaritans a call if any of you feel the need) but i 100% have hit a point where, more days than not, there's a feeling that life has peaked, i didnt even realise or appreciate that fact properly, and its all downhill from here on out. just going through the motions at this point. on the better days i recognise that it's not quite a write off yet. that trainspotting 2 line comes to mind occasionally and bothers me; if you gave me 2 years to live i could probably think of plenty to do with that time, but 20? 30?

  17. "When we hear that John (Beaton)'s in charge it is something we think right away this is going to be a tough afternoon, that's been consistent with what we've seen this season, there's no getting away from that." surely to f**k Hammell isn't going to get away with that, like.

  18. I think the general facepalmery on the thread has less to do with the winding-up and more to do with the gormless manner in which some Hearts fans revel. Devoid of wit, lacking in irony. For every Vincent Guerin or Topcat, there are three Paulo Sergios.

  19. Thanks to all for the messages of sympathy above. It's been a hard couple of days for both of us, but also for our other greyhound, Percy. Even though he was taken into the vets to see Toby's body, he's still looking for him to come home. When I got home from the football yesterday, it was so sad to see him looking for Toby behind me. He's never lived without another Greyhound for company before. Here's a couple of my favourite pictures of Toby to remember him by. So, onto one of the few consolations when a greyhound passes - it opens up a space on the sofa for a new rescue. We went down to the monthly Greyhound Trust Motherwell walk this afternoon, where Janice had brought along 5 dogs she thought we would like to consider. Two were a bit too playful & bouncy for Percy (he's over 11), and one seemed to bonding with another family. That left two candidates, from whom we chose Eddie (racing name Moanteen Eddie). We pick him up on 20th February.

  23. Maybe not their favourite highlights video to edit, but credit to @behindthelens for the quality of the video. I've seen some clubs try to hide negative highlights, so I'm always pleased when the effort is clearly still put in regardless of result.

  24. The year Kelty departed the SFJA top table sneered at them at the SJFA AGM for doing so. Heard that from multiple sources. CLubs were told that should they leave for the LL but choose to come back, they'd start at the bottom, i.e. a 4 division demotion for the likes of Pollok. We were interested but fear and tradition was used to stop dissention. TLDR: Tom Johnston is the answer to all your questions. It will take another 20 years to undo this 5 years of messing about as the waves lapped Tom Canute's feet.

  34. Can’t just be me who finds the chat about players wages to be incredibly tedious as no one actually knows and if they do then they absolutely should not be discussing it with a bunch of strangers on the internet. He’ll be on more than our highest earner I’d imagine and it’ll be up to the club to decide whether we want to go a bit outside our structure to accommodate him or does the player want to take a cut in order to get regular football at a club he claims he’s loving life at. I think if we’re willing to take on his full wages then Livingston would be as well terminating his contract and we get him permanently on maybe an 18 month deal. I’d rather that that loan him on full wages for 6 months only for him to f**k off to Partick or QP in the summer.

  35. Absolutely peak Sportscene there. "Aberdeen lost and Jim Goodwin got sacked. Now let's see what happened in the Aberdeen game." Brutal.

  36. Jim Goodwin was a fierce competitor on the pitch. There is no doubt that he over stepped the mark at times during his playing career with certain challenges. When I have met him he came across as a thoroughly decent human being. He will have done his best to bring success at Aberdeen but ultimately circumstances and results proved all too much. I honestly believe he has been let down by these modern day journeymen footballers who are often only with clubs on a short term basis. I sincerely hope he recovers from this situation and takes some lessons. There will be many critics in the media and on social media ripping him to shreds. But at least he had the conviction as a player and a manager to stand up and try to do his best for every club he was employed by. Many of those dishing out insults don’t have the courage or the mental strength to take on the challenges that he has faced in his career. I wish him all the success in what he plans to do next. Btw I’d have preferred if the Dons had kept him until after midweek game against St Mirren as I fear the dreaded bounce that those players will ultimately have a point to prove to the next manager.

  38. Didn't make the game but I've a few general thoughts. We really need a midfielder. People are suggesting Hammell has to beat St J or he deserves to go. I'm giving him until midnight the night before as if we don't shore up the midfield then him and the whole recruitment team need to go. That's if we even have a recruitment team given what had been rumoured. I said earlier it's sometimes how these things play out that maybe Mandron/Crankshaw/Danzaki end up getting over the finishing line first while other stuff goes on in the background but this is getting dangerously close to nothing happening. The midfield is a joke, Goss is one of the worst regularly picked players I think I've witnessed at FP, Slattery seems to have lost it since his sexist homophobic "do you know who I am?" thing went public and for all Spittal is "meh" I think he's the least of our pronlems when pushed a bit further forward. We've known for a few weeks Penny wasn't wanting to be here, rumoured he'd been speaking to English clubs for a while too.Yet we end up with Paul McGinn out there. Lots of chat about "we've filled Hammell's old job" as if it was were he was surely going if we pumped him out. It's rare that happens and it's rare that persons sacked would be willing to take up a "lesser" role. I know it has happened on the odd occasion in the past elsewhere but I think it's stuff of fantasy, regardless we're not gonna get rid of Hammell. It would probably be April and too late before it was considered. Liam Kelly is dugshite. Sure he's got the odd save for the cameras in him but that goal yesterday was a stinker and it's not his first stinker. If he's anywhere near the Scotland team come March they're in trouble too. I've probably had more thoughts reading the last few pages but I've forgot them already.

  40. The standard of the officials at this level of football is unacceptable, you will not see a more blatant push for a penalty this or any other season, what makes it worse is the asst was looking straight at it as well as the useless c**t in charge. He of course also never gave a foul on Brad and pulled the game back when Morrison was about to score when the Edinburgh player had an eyelash in his eye.
